My astronomy professor discussed this song in class today since she mentions a "total eclipse of the sun" in Nova Scotia. Since Warren Beatty's mother lives there, he assumed she was singing about him. I googled it, and apparently she sang the guy's name backwards on a rerecording of it. I don't know how true that it, but the name on the record (there was a name) was a manager of hers who promoted Joni Mitchell (her rival) over her, making her mad.

The real truth again about this song is Carly Simon wrote this after she was dumped by then her boyfriend Wayne Newton. She kept it to herself for many years.
