In the eyes of serious collectors, parts guns no matter how nice they are don't count. The only exception would be an L1A1

receivers brought in by "Eden Imports", just before the 1989 ban. Less than 600 of
these receivers were imported. One of these receivers is currently worth more than $1,800regardless of the configuration in which it was assembled.Just due to the scarcity of the receivers.I have 1!

The front sights, cocking lever, fore-guard, receiver locking clip and selector all indicate this is either an Enfield L1A1 (UK) or a Lithgow L1A1 (Australia). Made under licence from FN. In the Rhodesian army we got to use 3 variants of the FAL/SLR - the L1A1, FN FAL and the South African R1. The FN FAL was the best made by quite a long way...

the fn was canada's battle rifle until it was replaced 15+ years ago most of them where destroyed. About the same time the government made ownership of automatic rifles extremely difficult to obtain. If you didn't own one prior to the ban then you never will, thanks to that murdering bastard Lepine and another nut who stormed parliment hill in the 80's. Canadian gun owners need to stand up for there rights to bear arms before we end up like the UK. The gun registry doesn't work.
Yes it was gone but missed. I found it a bastard at first being used to hunting riffles. After getting the frontsight and flash eliminator lined to how i was looking through the rear apature sight. I can remeber 7 shots i made to find the sweet on her.Its a shame to see they were destroyed with the exceptions still out there. Personaly it would have made a great anything riffle, Other then Rabbits of course.
@alnbaba you must see how it is here in Brazil... You would thank god by your country laws. The comunist goverment uses the drug dealers as excuse to disarm the population... To turn us in sheeps. And the people, ignorant in most part, can't see the autoritary tendences of the PT (workers party). I'm a police agent and I can't have .50AE guns, automatic guns, 7.62 or 5.56 rifles, no lasers or sound supressors. For the civilians, the carry is forbiden, and the buy is restricted to .38 and .380.
I averaged a 2" grouping at 100 yards but I did have a 6" grouping at 600 yards with it. not every day mind you but I was a bit light when I was firing the rifle and the recoil had a tendency to push me back a bit.
sure (in semi-auto, but most FALs are), but a weapon of this type requires an individual permit, which means paying 65 euros every 5 years for each weapon (as well as qualifying ofc).
still obviously worth it though.
as for DSA, i've never seen one here. they got a good rep though and someday i hope to import one (especially if the dollar remains so low). but importing is a lot of tax and a huge pain in the ass for all the paperwork...
it's likely that there are more UK and Australian L1A1's than other FALs, yes. but that's not really the problem in this case.
however it shouldn't take you long to find data on various specialised forums on which are considered the best. i can guarantee you it won't be the L1A1...
i suppose you could say that the L1A1 is to the FAL what the CETME is to the G3 (quality wise, not historywise, obviously.)
my Bisly rofle had had wood hardware. It was the very old triangular wood rather than the more oval design. It was also much nicer to carry in the cold than the plastic
how would it be possible that the original plant and inventor actually makes one of the better variants? yes, a very far stretched notion, bsdmon. ;)
in all seriousness, a look at market price should reveal a lot. of course, general supply is a factor, but the fact that FALs produced by FN-H or Steyr go for over 3-4 times the price of an L1A1 should be a giveaway.
And how do you determine this? Though steyr's hammer forged barrels seem to be on the higher end for accuracy. I've never heard anyone say israeli fals were one of the better models. The brits made alot of great changes.
the Steyr Mannlicher the Stg. 58 is supposedly the most accurate variant, followed by the belgian FALs by FN-H and the israeli 'Romat' FAL.
further down the list, you'll find the english L1A1 and the brasilian IMBEL FALs amongst the average performers. this is so because the english L1A1 was partially re-engineered for more reliability in some condition, but this meant sacrificing some of the accuracy potential.

@777system777 More fal than AK ? 90 millions AK and copied, i donno fal, something like 7-10 millions.
FAL are in : belgium, latin america (not everywhere), africa (some along with g3, AK, and folks), maybe in asia ?
AK are ; all europe, all asia, all central asia, all africa, all latin america.
Do i need to say more ?

L1A1 SLR British? It does look like a Commonwealth inch pattern rifle instead of the matric standard rifle that most of the world use.
The Commonwealth rifle is very attractive, if you can say that about a rifle.

I was there, the guy filming did a good job bringing that up,saftey on the range is #1!
2 things about the "melting"The guy filming saw smoke and though it was melting the bag.
1.FN's discharge smoke(for a better word) out of the gas port and the heat from the barrel.
2.If the shooter would had changed mags and continued it would had melted the plastic
3.The guy fiming is a natural shot, unlike me,attention to detail is always a plus on the range, always welcome objective advice on the range

would you say that an FN FAL is more accurate than a G3? (trying to figure out which one to buy!) or would an HK SL8-06 (.223) be better?

on average:
L1A1 < G3 < FN FAL < austrian FAL
not going to comment on the 5.56mm because it's simply not a fair comparison and depends on a lot of different factors (and interpretations).
