If we can't figure out a safe alternative to nuclear and fossil fuel energy, we should go back to living without energy, as humans have for most of their existence on the planet. That's better than where we're headed (and dragging all other life-forms with us).
But maybe it will take a much bigger disaster than Chernobyl for us to decide to choose life over our precious energy. By then, will it be too late?
Maybe a global economic collapse will save us from ourselves.
Yes, Chernobyl is an awful, awful tragedy, but it's no reason to oppose nuclear power. The soviet nuclear power stations were unsafe, and needed maintenence. Ultimately greenpeace should really support Nuclear energy, it is literally 30 million times more sustainable than the burning of fossil fuels and actually creates a viable amount of power as opposed to wind, or geothermal. Nuclear power is the future.
@MightyBif It also creates waste that will be still be highly dangerous for far longer than man has been on this planet. Do you really think Greenpeace would support a technology like that?!? If we spent on wind and solar what we do on nuclear we wouldn't have an energy problem, but then how do big corps and govs make $ out of what is essentially a free comodity??? There lies the real problem! More countries are decomissioning that building right now so I guess they disagree re the nuke future?
@22ness0hayden I will be more than happy to get a massive wind turbine and solar panel out side my house but when the wind stops and night kicks I, will want every one from Greenpeace to blow air at the turbine while shining a torch on the solar cell.
@BorisD1992 The energy would be stored in the national grid as it is now. You would be charged for what you consume and compensated for what you generate. This is how most solar powered properties currently operate. There is no need for round the clock generation

Depending on quantity you picked up , either you'll DNA autorepair system will handle it , or your DNA in some part of your body will start to change and you can get cancer . Or your cells could die cause molecular structure has changed in them .
After some time , radiation wears out , but changed DNA and molecules can stay ...
@SilentGstrike it destroys cells and mutates cells. depends on the lenght of exposure and the intensity. as well as alfa. beta and gamma rays. gamma is worst only thick piece of lead can stop gamma rays.u can get necrosis, all sorts of cancer, nerve system collapse, radiation sickness, skin burns and i can go on for ever like that.
watch at 1:19 u can actually see the radiation (litlle white blips) because it disturbes and destoys the sensitive circuits in the camera.
@SilentGstrike Well, too much can be deadly, and even minor exposures can cause... problems with your... um, manhood or womanhood... That's why radiation commonly causes mutations in people and animals.
this was a bad thing thing and should serve as a reminder of what a nuc bomb would do. Why the fuck man and woman kind would point things like this at one another i dont know : {
dear GorniyEvrey, your allegation about "..help to you.." has absolutely no matter. USSR was the single country, so it was our common disaster, same as it's reasons. This disaster was because of the assholes of Soviet Vlast, who was the incompetent rednecks (same as Khrushchov), sitting in government cabinets and playing with their dicks and vodka. All the Soviet Vlast (with some tiny exceptions) was these fucking rednexes, who thought that nuclear power plants is nuthin more than a big boilers

Renard380, what the fuck would you know about renewables?
You don't need damned mountains for windpower, fool. You can put them over the sea where they can get lots of wind.
Nuclear kills people and the waste damages ecosystems.

Can you read? I said "not every country has mountains where to build dams" Do you think dams are used to create electricity from windpower? Get a brain before you spam.
