Amen Sis-STAR, you said it all, AMEN...The first battle begins WITHIN...Once we Trust Our Own Personal TRUTH that I AM what, I AM is when we can begin to RISE above and CLAIM Back our Dignity of Self RESPECT...I LOVE MYSELF, I LOVE UR RANT, AND I LOVE U SISTER...PEACE
This is the BohemianBrown I KNOW! That's what I'm talking about! People always ask me why I'm always smiling when they see me. It's because you can't let the bullshit get to you. You'll never make it if all you're worried about are other peoples thoughts and opinions. All you're going to do is make yourself MISERABLE trying to make others happy. At my job we have a saying and I use this in my professional life as well as my personal life. " It is what it is. Either you take it or you don't.""
Amen sister. This brought me to tears. We share similar story. My parents hate that I am free forming my locs...or that I am locking period. I used to stress over making them and others understand, but I realized that the greatest way to do this is not with words, but as a living example and just BEING who I am. And it's not to say that everyone will eventually understand. But they will come to respect it, and family will still love you.
Indeed! There must have been something in the air that week. I made a video on this topic a day before, "Natural Hair and Professionalism". Adoring your passion sis. And glad I ran across your channel.
Great video! Constant complaining about how others don't accept our hair, skin, etc only serves to reinforce such convoluted thinking. The first mind a person should change is her own. Once you do that, believe me, what others think about you, you can't help but just Shake It Off like Aaliyah!
I had locs for about 19 1/2 months and cut them because I was going through some things...after watching this video I now realize that I cut my hair MAINLY because ppl wanted me to and said I look better with a haircut...and to be honest, I don't feel any different...when I had my locs I felt like ME, NOT what everyone else wanted me to be...after watching this I realize that I have to love myself regardless of what others may think...thank you so much!!!!!!
@HEBmc23 yes! you have to love yourself no matter what, because in the end, all you have is you. If you can't, then you can't give the love to anyone else!
"A ppl without the knowledge of their past history, origin and culture is like a tree without roots"~ Marcus Garvey.....ur speech was pure inspiration
htp ..powerful video, u found exacly the point, in germany i`n´i lookin like bumb for dem .. to go natural with the diet, locs and shit is hard out here ..i feel me like im the only animal try to becomes a real human, ya`ll feel me?! FREEFORM 1 LOVE
@DerFutuRichtige you'll get it. I know in Germany, people stare when they see something different. It's wierd, but I laughed at them and stared right back. They'll stop looking once they realize they're the subject being viewed..lol Do you, King. Your locs are beautiful when you have them!
Thank You sooooo much for this message B.B.! WE truly need to hear this message and get it into our head that its NOT your hair, clothing, adornments which get you anywhere. Your MENTALITY is what creates your life. Your THOUGHTS transform your energy which the universe uses to produce your ENVIRONMENT & Those who are in your cypher.
Well said my friend!!! I feel ur pain! My family still doesn't understand my dreads either. My dad threatened to cutt 'em off just last night lol! I just laughed and said "why would u want me to get rid of something that makes me unique and expresses who I am?!"
@RicoKhem it is perfect and we are fine with no additions or excuses! I can't be mad at my relaxed or weaved sisters. They make a choice wether it based on the knowledge or not. I just don't want any of us to think we are inferior because we don't look like someone of another ethnicity.
OMG YES YES YES YES YES YES YES!!!! OMG GOD YES!!!!! PRECH! OMG! THANK U FOR SAYING THE SAME SHIT I PREACH TO IGNORANT PEOPLE ABOUT!!! OMG! THANK U EARTH!
@BohemianBrown nawl sumtimes u gotta break down n let ppl no that we not wear locs to b waka floca or ledisi ya know? we wear em because its who we are n its apart of our culture and its wear we come from n etc. n when u was tearing up(my eyes burining) i was like finally a blk queen showing tru emotion on this subj! its bout tyme sum one spoke the raw truth n wasnt afraid to b emotional..everything u was saying was tru from begining to end n for that i love u!(n a friendship way)
@n0turdreadz oh yes, totally agreed there on the culture! Yes I get emotional, because it breaks my heart to see people hurting over something that they think is true!
@BohemianBrown u right i get pissed off to but now i just tell ppl how do u not know ur history? n i tell em dreads r deeper than u think..they represent more than just the fear of god..n then i go look it up n well have this convo again when ur ready lol
@iyinayinde yes it can be difficult, especially without a support system. The more you celebrate and love yourself, the easier it becomes. I've gone through and I'm still working at it...
...and it's not white corporate folks doing this. There is black-on-black crime pertaining to this subject. I had a sister-friend who told me the reason I didn't date as much was because of my locs. Mind you, she herself isn't married nor in a steady male relationship. So, I agree, people can get outta my face with that bull! I am also in a decent position in a worldwide marketing agency... my hair did not get me this position. The God in me did!
@marque235 yep! people have to realize their self worth. You make you not the hair, clothes, etc. These are only manifestations of who you are. Thanks for your reply!
I'm so so so happy you made this video. When I decided to try freeforming my hair, I was very concerned about making sure my hair was still "neat" for work while at same time try to cultivate my locs. I have come to realize that my hair is not an obstacle at all at work and second, most of the issues were self-made, I made a big deal about it. Thank you for reminding our brothers and sisters that we are beautiful and reaffirming the concept of self-love.
Amen and not only am I going to make my own job if you don't want me because of my hair and make this know to me I'm going to be sure to sue you legally, ...
