So sad to learn just now of Ramata Diakite's passing. I first heard about her in 2008 when I watched a PBS documentary on her music; I followed up on youtube and discovered a whole rich brigade of Malian female musicians, including Oumou Sangare. Though I already had some familiarity with Malian music, it was only with the music of the men then, Salif Keita and Ali Farka Toure, etc. Since I discovered Ramata and the other women I simply have not been able to tolerate the male musicians! RIP!

I am very sad to hear of Ramata's recent passing. Such a great talent and so very young.
