In Australia we call this small piece of poetry "The Ode " and it is said at every anzac day service, we end it with the words"lest we forget" for those who paid the supreme price must never be forgotten.
Tohseef Shah spray painted a British War Memorial with "Islam will dominate, Osama is coming" he was fined £50 and walked free from court. In November 2010, Emdadur Choudhury burned a Poppy during the 2 minute silence. He too, was given a £50 fine and walked free from court. Today, 2 men have been sentenced to 12 months in prison for spray painting a Poppy on a mosque. Welcome to the Great British justice system. Disgusting... Who's brave enough to copy and paste this?
You left out the Korean War, there were two Gulf wars and there is still a war in Afghanistan. Canada lost more servicemen in the Cold War than in Afghanistan and we almost never publicly recognized those who died in training accidents, overseas with NATO and on UN peacekeeping missions.
i lost some of my best mates out in iraq, sorry you couldnt come back to blighty with me this time lads, but your not forgotten, ill remember u and all the other fallen heroes forever (for all my oppos lost in op telic 7, rest in peace fellas youve earned ur place in paradise)
COWARDS ABLE ONLY TO KILL WOMWN AND CHILDREN LIKE A THE BLOODY SUNDAY
The Military and American politicians write in secret documents published by Wikileaks that: "The British soldiers are just cowards, paying the Taliban out of cowardice. The U.S. removed Sangin to the British, and control of Helmand. "
i dont agree with war but it will continue till i die. But i will always remember those who have died and what they sacrficed for me. this poem gets me everytime
Also missing in Northern Ireland, but thanks for the video. There is only 1 year since the end of WW2 that we have not lost a serviceman and that was 1968.
hey y isnt afganistan on this video i mean both my parent have fought in that war and i know someone that died in that war so next time please include all wars if you are to mention them
They shall not grow old as we who are left grow old. Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn. At the going down of the sun and in the morning, We will remember them... on 11/11,at 11am silence!!!! I would love, if everyone on here would copy and paste this statement and put it as your comment to show your respect to all the brave men and women that have lost their lives for our country, and to those still serving!!
i wear a poppy for every minuet on rememberence day im proud to say ive done my part to respect and honour the fallen and im proud to say that very soon i will be joining the ranks to defend my country enland with honour and valour
I am not a fan of the British, but I have to admit that tens of thousands of young men from the United Kingdom, Australia, Canada and New Zealand (as well as the USA) have risked their lives or their limb fighting tyranny. When Hitler wanted to eradicate the national sovereignty of Poland and others by creating a large nation out of many different countries the British said no.
I hate to say it, but the fact that the British inflicted Nazi Germany's first ever military defeat is incredible.
In Flanders fields the poppies blow Between the crosses, row on row, That mark our place; and in the sky The larks, still bravely singing, fly Scarce heard amid the guns below. We are the Dead. Short days ago We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow, Loved and were loved, and now we lie In Flanders fields. If ye break faith with us who die We shall not sleep, though poppies grow In Flanders fields. had to cut it down but words just as potent
Normally I'd cry... But since i've changed everything different I take everything it said my dad died in Afghanistan and my grandad died on D-Day but i can't cry it's weird.
I respect everyone who lays down their lives for their country's freedom no matter where they come from they deserve respect.
It is sad to see folk using this forum to express their dislike of each other. There is a real irony there somewhere. These men and women deserve their sacrifice to be remembered and observed. Not to have their memory disgraced by people who only wish to attack others. If you must do that please go somewhere else and do it, somewhere more appropriate.
I wish the UK did what the Menin Gate, Ypres, Belgium, does every single day.
The town stands still every day and remembers.
We must challenge UK education and ensure all our children never forget that without the bravery of the men of 1914-1918 none of us would be present today to enjoy life.
Your children and grand children owe alot to the fallen - don't ever forget all faiths & cultures died for us all at the blow of a whistle.
yes of course,if your refering to this Laurent Kabila business, then its not really that hard to keep informed on current and past affairs,as for blaming africa,s and the general regions ills concerning there inhumanity towards each other on british colonialism, i may have overstated my point somewhat, but it still seems that some of these countrys could do with being taken in hand again perhaps with a colonial outlook,as there a breeding ground for some of the worlds most acomplished butchers
can i ask are you british or amercian to the guy who did this vid or do you not know your history because your playin a british bugle call and including an american war in as britain and other commenwelth countries stayed out of vietnam
i have idea enough, and yes the colonial wars were a somewhat bloody affair, empire brought stability to a lot of these countrys, allowing for investment and better health, but as with the passage of time, empire left africa to rule them selves.now look what a stable peace loving country alot of these regions are, kids with guns, women and children hacked to death with machetes, these people are incapable of governing themselves.have thing s really improved.go ask one of the many two bit warlords.
"Empire brought stability to a lot of these countries". The British policy of colonialism and divide and rule, set race against race, and stoked up ethnic tension which continues to be responsible for most of the worlds conflict. How dare you absolve British colonialism for responsibility for kids with guns, women and children hacked to death etc etc. Look at the Congo today, would you be able to comprehend the connection if I told you that somehow there is a link with Belgium.
true, but is there a date when colonialism stops being able to be used as an excuse. Ive been to africa, and they are like children. They are incapable of governing themselves. Why is south africa the most economically powerful country in africa?
I gotta agree with Orodslll...I mean, look at the Colonial Wars of Imperial Britain in Africa in the 1700s and 1800s. Those were wars of aggression, of conquest, not of defense. "For the Empire!" just isn't the same as "For Liberty!", if you get my drift.
Ah the Somme, God's way of ridding Ireland of it's traitors, who thought it better to kill Germans for Irish freedom instead of the English who terrorised us for centuries.
its really good to see young people recognising what the older generations have done for us today as they have given us our freedom. my mothers uncle was conscripted in ww2 and survived the normandy landings only to lose his life in october the same year. he is burried out there in foriegn soil aged just 23. he gave his life fighting for the country he has never returned to.thanks for this simple but important piece.
my grandfather was in WW2 and he survived, my great uncle was in the war and he lied about his age and he survived. And I am very proud of them for helping us get our freedom. We should all be happy to have freedom to our beautful country.
My overwhelming memory of this is a relative, my Great Uncle standing to attention, his DSO glimmering in the light, he served at the Somme - crying as the wreath was laid at the Cenotaph. c 1984.
Pretty much the only poem I've ever remembered. I really hate being one of the only 15 year olds who care about the forces we need to do more for them.
ppl no offence cxan u stop critising his video daying what bout the falklands, korean war, vietname, northern ireland he took his time out to do this so just enjoy the video and leave him be god bless them all and god bless you for making this video

Be better if the accepted words of the Ode were right wouldn't it?
They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old:
Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn
At the going down of the sun and in the morning
We will remember them. (We WILL remember them)
Lest We Forget (Lest We Forget)
At least fix the glaring errors please? This is a Traditional Ode, the words have a traditional flow & mixing them up is BAD form.
