Wes joue comme il parle, des phrases bien posées, respiration on écoute l'autre et on répond. C'est magnifique et très simple à la fois. Fermez les yeux et laissez vous porter......
There are some songs that can never leave your system. There 1st time I heard this I spent the following three months walking around with this tune in my head. Lovely.
No words can describe how I feel while listening to Mr Montgomery, his smooth and jazzy sound makes me feel shocked everytime I sit down and listen to his tunes
@maxomilian I'd say that's probably unlikely. If you listen to different takes of the same tunes(plenty of examples on Complete Riverside, e.g. Body and Soul) the solos are completely different to each other. Not that it really matters anyway - he sounded great whether it was totally improvised or (at least partly)arranged.
It's quite hard to believe it's improvisation we're talking about. It seems some kind of godly architect of jazz guitar concieved these solos. Amazing, pure talent.
In terms of talent on jazz guitar, there seems to be Wes Montgomery, and then everyone else....it is his "feel" as much as anything that makes his playing so appealing....I don't know whatever went through his head while he played, but it sounds like he is exerting no effort whatsoever! The best.
Especially in terms of originality and own sound! Some things can only be copied. I hear a wide open mind through Wes at least musically. It's no telling what else he was hipped to that encouraged his level of harmonic awareness and courage. Maybe one of his past lives had an effect? I'm open to many unpopular anti -status quo possibilities.
Sheer brilliance. The timing and note choices are fantastic! The melody is stated as well as it can be. The transition to octaves is seamless. Besame Mucho, as played here, may be equalled someday, but it may never happen. Nimble, swinging, pretty, gentle to aggressive - the full range.
Pure genius!!!!!!!! No words can describe the detachment and ease of the improv' . Who would know that it took so long and was so arduous to Wes to nail it? Greatness does not count the time you spend getting there. Still the best guitarist EVER!

Wes was the best thing the big bang ever produced.
He is starstuff if ever there was such a thing.
Even Queen Victoria would have lifted her skirts to dance to this.
Beethoven, Handel, Mendelson, all the greats would have acknowledged him.
This I am certain of.

Maybe my favorite jazz guitar solo. The amazing thing is, almost despite the
facility that other commenters note, it is completely gripping, even after listening to it for forty years...

what what is really amazing beyond improvisation, is that this guy rarely used boxes, and kinda just played, without formal teaching

It's hard to believe these are all improvised solos. They're so perfect, they seem constructed before hand.

@androidguitar Actually, my guitar teacher, who is a huge montgomery fan, said that alot of his solos were arranged before hand

It's actually hard to believe he didn't preconceive these solos. Amazing, the construction of it.
