I think it's just that, with YouTube, you're exposed to more people. A non-YouTuber, in their lifetime, meets let's just say 1,000 people, and of that thousand, about 100 really like them. With YouTube, you "meet" thousands of people. I don't think the proportion of people-liking-you to people-meeting-you is different, it just seems like it because it's on such a huge scale.
I find you interesting, Hayley, and I also often find you funny. That's why I watch your videos. Today was awesome because I caught up on YouTube videos and they were very good.
You get comments saying you're awesome because you're awesome. You deserve all of the good things that have come out of your YouTube...career? I don't want to say career. YouTube life? I don't know. But you deserve it. When I'm having a bad day, one of the things that cheer me up the most is a hayleyghoover video, whether you're making something hilarious or just talking to us.
I think youtube is about being able to make the world we live in smaller, and being able to see someone in the world, living their life, and seeing that there are people out there that are just like you, or completely different from you, or that there are people out in the world, sharing a part of their day with you, and taking the time to appreciate their opinions or problems or good news. It's meeting someone for who they are, instead of the circumstance you meet them in.
I don't think it's a matter of whether you deserve it or not. That sort of view point can be applied in any situation in life. Maybe you're looking at it too seriously. You make videos, we like them, we can relate to you and we appreciate not being shoved a load of crap in the form of a video.
You're not one of my heroes because of anything special that you do on YouTube or anything that you do extra. I mean, you make awesome videos and do awesome things, but the reason why I look up to you and think so highly of you is just your personality.

I love in the tags that you describe swallowing a big pill for the first time without cutting it. I'm 19 now and I swallowed my first pill when I was about 16. Children's chewable medicine is a God send.
I have a distinct memory of my brother and his best friend when they were like 17 and I was 14 laughing at me at the dinner table when I couldn't swallow a Tylenol or something. They kept giving me weird foods to put it in to see if that would help. It didn't.
with youtube it's not like with the TV, that everyone who's on there can claim themself celebrity. YouTubers are just normal people, at least mostly, but what makes them 'famous' and well known on here isn't because they're on some strange reality show, here you only get a lot of people constantly watching you when you have talented and when you're creative and witty and just generally a great person.
That's what I love about YT, it's about doing great things and not just 'being famous'

I agree with what many others have said, Hayley. It's special to be so open and honest with the Internet, especially in the face of haterz and things like that. It's refreshing to come onto YouTube and find intelligent, witty people who care enough to spend time making entertaining videos for us. You definitely deserve way more attention and affection than videos of cats on toilets (as Conan O'Brien would say -- because that's unfortunately what a lot of YouTube is). xo

I don't think you are greater than me, or that dude. I just like you. I like watching your videos, I think your life is exciting. I like you like I like other things. Don't put too much thought in to it, just do it. If you want to. I would be sad if you stopped making videos, but you are a relatively small part of my life, and I would get over it. My point is, you don't owe us anything.
People wouldn't stay subscribed to you if you weren't awesome. You all do wonderful things here, and you have obviously worked hard to get to this point. I think It's more that you have a ridiculous amount of fans, and it's very sad because there are so many other great youtubers that have only twenty or thirty subscribers, but you shouldn't feel bad about that. I dont think its less a matter of people thinking youre great for talking into a camera, but more that youre great for who you are and WHAT you say into a camera. Anyone can buy a camera and start talking into it, but that doesnt mean that people will get interested what they are saying.
Take Charles Trippy, or Shay Carl for example. Their channels arent great because they vlog everyday, but because they are great people. If they werent then people would get bored and stop watching.
You girls do deserve the attention. All five of you have worked very hard to get your status on Youtube. If people have a problem with it, it's their problem. You girls have thousands of dedicated subscribers who'll enjoy your videos whether there 30 seconds to 30 minutes long. I like watching vlogs because I get to know what are on people's minds who are miles and miles away and what their days were like. It makes me feel connected with people somehow. I would also love to meet everybody that I watch on YouTube, just to get that much closer, in a non-creepy way.

It's an interesting concept to explore though. I think there are some people on youtube that I just sometimes ask myself like.. why are they even popular? Then there are other people that I think deserve more attention. So it goes both ways... but I think the success you girls have achieved is well earned.

people are interested in you, even if you aren't doing much or putting lots of effort in, it doesn't make you any less interesting. That's not meant to sound as creepy as it does lol. One of the things i find so interesting about vlogs just like this one is how other people live. I'm in the UK and have a completely different lifestyle to you despite common factors such as age and gender. It's just interesting to get insight into other people's lives, what they think and why they think it...
I totally feel the same way! I have been going to bed around midnight practically this whole year because I'm usually bored, until it's night and it's time to go to bed. Quite annoying.
We watch you and think you're amazing in the same way that we hang out with friends and we think they're great. We feel like we know you, and we've become kind of attached to your life, so we care about what you have to say. And we think you're funny and gorgeous and amazing because you are, but also because we think all those things about everyone who we know and love.

It's basically like you have a hell of a lot of friends. Just, more one-sided, sadly.
Well, even if someone did hear about you from one of their friends and subbed because of that, they wouldn't stick around if they didn't actually like what you're doing. Sure, there are those people who have dead accounts and who feel guilty if they unsubscribe or whatever, but I wouldn't keep watching someone just because they make content. YOU, dear, make great content and you connect with the people who watch you ever week. It's inspiring.
The very fact that you wonder stuff like this is the reason I think you deserve all the positive comments. If you were full of yourself and all "Oh yes, why of COURSE I'm wonderful, dahling!" then you definitely wouldn't be living up to the hype. You (and the other four awesomegirls) are awesome because you're real, and you don't try to be anything that you're not (unless it involves putting on a wig and playing a funny character, which is totally rad).
I think that working hard at something is not the only validation for attention. I enjoyed this because it seemed honest and critical in the way that it involved praxis, I believe that deems you rightfully deserving of some more attention. Good luck on NaNoWriMo!

You can deserve attention without being special; a lot of people deserve a lot of attention. Most of them just don't get that attention though. But you deserve the attention and get it, through luck and various other ways I guess. Yeah, there are just a lot of awesome people, and most of them just don't happen to get the attention that you do. But that doesn't make you any less deserving. I don't think I explained myself well there, but hopefully the idea gets across?
Also, I'm at college, away from my high school friends, and most would think I live a very lonely life. My online life makes up for the fact that IRL I'm more shy than a frikin' unicorn (sorry John). A friend of mine got me hooked on Hank and John last May. Since then, my YouTube sub-box has EXPLODED. As many people on here have said, I consider you and all of the other Tubers to be my friends. It makes my day to wake up and find videos waiting for me to watch, knowing that you guys read every single comment, tweet, email, whatever. What first attracted me to Mike (besides music), is that he talks us. You care about us, and we care about you. Friends? I think so.
Maybe you feel like your "boring" vlogs don't deserve attention, but (at least to me) those are just as awesome as any of your other videos! Just because you don't dress up in crazy costumes or use weird voices in every one of your videos doesn't mean that they don't still make all of us smile. :)

Hayley, I know what you mean by thinking you don't "deserve" the attention, but the fact of the matter is that if you're getting it you most likely do. Personally, I find you amusing/interesting whether you spend an hour or six on a video. I like that you're honest and comfortable with your audience (us). It doesn't matter whether you're on youtube or not on youtube, everyone is great and they deserve to be told so every now and again. You have a youtube channel (well two) and so it's easy to tell you.
This doesn't mean you don't deserve it because you definitely do, you put a lot of work into your videos, and they are wonderful. It just means that even, and sometimes especially when, a person doesn't "deserve" it, they're still great, and they should know that.

I love in the tags that you describe swallowing a big pill for the first time without cutting it. I'm 19 now and I swallowed my first pill when I was about 16. Children's chewable medicine is a God send.
I have a distinct memory of my brother and his best friend when they were like 17 and I was 14 laughing at me at the dinner table when I couldn't swallow a Tylenol or something. They kept giving me weird foods to put it in to see if that would help. It didn't.

with youtube it's not like with the TV, that everyone who's on there can claim themself celebrity. YouTubers are just normal people, at least mostly, but what makes them 'famous' and well known on here isn't because they're on some strange reality show, here you only get a lot of people constantly watching you when you have talented and when you're creative and witty and just generally a great person.
That's what I love about YT, it's about doing great things and not just 'being famous'

I agree with what many others have said, Hayley. It's special to be so open and honest with the Internet, especially in the face of haterz and things like that. It's refreshing to come onto YouTube and find intelligent, witty people who care enough to spend time making entertaining videos for us. You definitely deserve way more attention and affection than videos of cats on toilets (as Conan O'Brien would say -- because that's unfortunately what a lot of YouTube is). xo

People wouldn't stay subscribed to you if you weren't awesome. You all do wonderful things here, and you have obviously worked hard to get to this point. I think It's more that you have a ridiculous amount of fans, and it's very sad because there are so many other great youtubers that have only twenty or thirty subscribers, but you shouldn't feel bad about that. It's not your fault. :)

I dont think its less a matter of people thinking youre great for talking into a camera, but more that youre great for who you are and WHAT you say into a camera. Anyone can buy a camera and start talking into it, but that doesnt mean that people will get interested what they are saying.
Take Charles Trippy, or Shay Carl for example. Their channels arent great because they vlog everyday, but because they are great people. If they werent then people would get bored and stop watching.

I like watching vlogs because I get to know what are on people's minds who are miles and miles away and what their days were like. It makes me feel connected with people somehow. I would also love to meet everybody that I watch on YouTube, just to get that much closer, in a non-creepy way.

One of the things i find so interesting about vlogs just like this one is how other people live. I'm in the UK and have a completely different lifestyle to you despite common factors such as age and gender. It's just interesting to get insight into other people's lives, what they think and why they think it...

Well, even if someone did hear about you from one of their friends and subbed because of that, they wouldn't stick around if they didn't actually like what you're doing. Sure, there are those people who have dead accounts and who feel guilty if they unsubscribe or whatever, but I wouldn't keep watching someone just because they make content. YOU, dear, make great content and you connect with the people who watch you ever week. It's inspiring.

The very fact that you wonder stuff like this is the reason I think you deserve all the positive comments. If you were full of yourself and all "Oh yes, why of COURSE I'm wonderful, dahling!" then you definitely wouldn't be living up to the hype. You can deserve attention without being special; a lot of people deserve a lot of attention. Most of them just don't get that attention though. But you deserve the attention and get it, through luck and various other ways I guess. Yeah, there are just a lot of awesome people, and most of them just don't happen to get the attention that you do. But that doesn't make you any less deserving. I don't think I explained myself well there, but hopefully the idea gets across?

A friend of mine got me hooked on Hank and John last May. Since then, my YouTube sub-box has EXPLODED. As many people on here have said, I consider you and all of the other Tubers to be my friends. It makes my day to wake up and find videos waiting for me to watch, knowing that you guys read every single comment, tweet, email, whatever. What first attracted me to Mike (besides music), is that he talks us. You care about us, and we care about you. Friends? I think so.

Hayley, I know what you mean by thinking you don't "deserve" the attention, but the fact of the matter is that if you're getting it you most likely do. Personally, I find you amusing/interesting whether you spend an hour or six on a video. I like that you're honest and comfortable with your audience (us). Whenever you think you're undeserving, just think of how much attention Paris Hilton gets and why SHE has so many "fans." Feel better?

It doesn't matter whether you're on youtube or not on youtube, everyone is great and they deserve to be told so every now and again. You have a youtube channel (well two) and so it's easy to tell you.
This doesn't mean you don't deserve it because you definitely do, you put a lot of work into your videos, and they are wonderful. It just means that even, and sometimes especially when, a person doesn't "deserve" it, they're still great, and they should know that.

I feel the same way about NaNoWriMo I get super creative and i have all these ideas RIGHT when im about to go to sleep. and it sucks cause still being in high school I need my sleep and yet i need to write because I cant stop. haha good luck going further into the month, and people love you because when you just vlog you seem really, real and relatable and people who watch youtube need that.
