  • Yes I did plant it with the purpose of trying to help bring the very limited population back to San Francisco. If more people plant it in their backyards, they will apparently come!

  • I raised the pipevine from seed. However, you can cut a section of the vine and bury it with some of the leaves sticking out under fine sandy mulch during the rainy season (or keep it moist and partly shaded) and they will root. You can ao special order them from many local nurseries. Contact the California Native Plant Society-Yerba Buena chapter.

  • Thanks. It's a miracle she found the pipevine in SF's "urban wilderness". I will try to film the caterpillars as I may find them and continue the story. I hope this is the start of a new population. Take care.
