This sure brings back a lot of great memories. And to gcpropertymanagement, you're a freaking idiot to say the dancers had no talent. You're beyond being an idiot!!!!!!!
@killerqueen501 Yes............I knew a couple of girls like her back in the day. Oh my, words can't describe them...........So sexy, cute and fun. Not nearly as much 'Drama' with the girls back then. More Fun though..........
man this was the first dance i learned, then i learned walking the dog and it was nasty, my cuz taught me but i think she threw in a few moves of her owm lol then i learned the "cool Jerk"! Man those were the day! And the wa- wa- wa watusi.
Jacqui Levy Landrum is now doing the Mash Potatos in the GREAT sky beyond! May she RIP! And this goes for the cute blond next to her, IF she's gone too!!
Both the blond and the brunette can dance. I don't care if one does the mashed potato perfectly and the other free lances a bit. I would've loved to have danced with either one. I learned how to do the mashed potato when I was all alone on night guard duty in the Army. It is an exhausting dance! This music is so great and it's really special to find a woman who can really bring it. I danced about like the brunette, kinda just going with it & combining whatever I felt like. Seems like yesterday!
She is wonderful singer. I have to say that the dancers in these 60's videos are hilarious. I don't remember them being this bad but seeing them now, I realize they had no talent whatsoever. I also forgot the interesting hairstyles and clothes we wore. Someone should have stopped us. At least the music was good.
Well...now I finally know what the mashed potato is. Sometimes I keep forgetting that the internet can answer most of the questions I had when I was a kid. I'm afraid, however, that I cannot UNSEE it now. Well! Time to go look up some ridiculous dances from the 20's and 30's. Perhaps the lindy hop and the charleston...
@smithbonz - a lot of today's generation complain that they can't lose weight. Well, it's no small wonder: instead of dancing like teens did back then, they sit around all day munching on calorie filled junk food. Back then, after school we had 1 chocolate malt and that was it. Today, they pig on burgers, fries, soda, hash browns, and other salty, tasteless junk that makes them fat. Time to bring back some of that good stuff we had back then.
@1400deadwood Totally agree! I was just watching several Soul Train line video clips and only saw 3 people who were actually over weight by 70s standards. People, specifically the Black folks in the 70s were much leaner and healthier because we didn't have all the places to eat junk/fast food places like we do now and our food wasn't all toxic with steroids, pesticides... like is now to keep us fat, unhealthy and prone to cancers/diseases like now. Plus we esp child don't exercise anymore
Dee Dee Sharp was the #1 American Female Artist in the Philippines: Dyna Records was the Philippine distributor for Sharp's Cameo-Parkway Records label and released her Cameo singles simultaneously on both 45 and 78 rpm formats; I have collected no less than 10 of Sharp's 78s, the higher speed increases the sound quality and has Sharp, the background singers The Orlons and the studio band literally busting out of the speakers; would love to meet Sharp one day and give her one of these rare 78s.
Never get tired of watching DeDe and her great dancing in the video -- 961,360 views as of this writing and I think I'm responsible for about 900,000 of them.
something very appealing about them moves....lol I like it ! and as for that Blonde...... she has it ! to bad I was born to late...lol . would've of loved to meet a Go-Go !!!!! If I had my wish, Those times would be here to stay !!! Dance on !!!!!!!!!!!!
I remember trying to do this dance along with the music. Back then in the '60s we did not think about the dance techniques but just the moves. You guys were great.
You prefer mash... There I was down in the gutter goofed up to my eyeballs with Heroin. But there was Baked Potato. I listened to what Baked Potato say and he showed me the way. He pulled me through the cold turkey and into the light. Now I have a Media Sales job at Knit 'n' Stitch Magazine...God bless you Baked Potato...God bless you! #
The Mash Potato was one of the first dances that I actually learned to do and from there on it was in my blood dance, dance and more dance....I LOVE IT.
My thanks to DeDe Molliner for weighing in. Thanks so much, DeDe. Really enjoyed your dancing in this video, as well as others on Hollywood-a go-go I've seen her in. Those years were the greatest my life -- just sorry I didn't realize it then. On all the girls, love watching them -- all beautiful, and not a single tattoo among them!
The non-ethnic guy in front of Dee Dee should be shot for no moves! Most people of the Caucasian persuasion get down more then this guy. Pat Boone has 'em beat, almost!

This shout is for... ( soulrocket ) Thank you for posting this, you have class and style, its good people like you that keep music alive for all of us to enjoy, and for that i say.. Bravo! to you God Bless and peace/ love. from .. Northern , California.
The singer, the song, the dancers, the vibe...everything is so cool. Long live the 60's! I guess we'll never truly escape that period in time. There are too many good reasons to be thankful for that. Thanks for sharing. And thanks to YouTube for existing.
I did this dance when I was in Junior High. DeDe Mollner is right, it was a difficult dance to do. I had a partner and we worked out a Mashed Potato dance routine for a dance contest. When we won the twist contest we decided not to go through with the Mashed Potato contest. We didn't want people chasing us out of the ballroom. The contests were at the Hollywood Palladium back in the early 60's.
DeDe is the only one on the video that's doing it right. This is real dancing not like today's dancing where all you do is hump each others legs like spastic dogs.
@arkyron1947 I can't see that Dee Dee is even really doing the mashed potato: hard to see her feet,. Am I missing something in what you said? I know that the dance has more foot action than what Dee Dee seems to not be doing, though... more like what you see in "Hairspray" (1988.)
@JimmyBoi2 DeeDee is doing the classic MP, knees tight in, up down hip motion and intermittent mashing of feet using up down bending of waist all to give the impression of continuous motion. I danced in college and this is the most difficult oldie dance to keep up for an entire song. Balance, thigh and calf fatigue give way so a "break" was designed and put in the middle. [Really a rest period]. Jimmy, look again especially in the beginning. You can clearly see perfection.
DeDe you were/are a terrific dancer - as someone who tried to master the dance when it originally came out- i can appreciate your talent and class. Even though the other dancers are great as far as I can see you are doing the correct steps. It is a treat to watch you and your fellow dancers. Good Luck
its a pity how unoriginal the artistes of today are. i knew it looked familiar when i saw this in the LMFAO party rock anthem video...and hey call it shufflin'
I have 6 siblings and we all were dancers in our teens and beyond. A brother who is 1 year older than I danced this dance the best. He later suffered seizures that left him partially paralyzed on one side of his body, but we all have memory and testament of what he once could do with this dance.
mr.dorian my prince. did this in my history class during a project my sophmore year and the rest of the year he did this dance for everyone ITS AWSOME
That film looks like it was taken from a tv dance show, which there were national & local back then, and which would make sense to show people dancing. "No dancing"???...lol. You don't see rythym like that too much today.
I'm a go go dancer in a 60's soul/rock and roll band, and this dance is so hard. i've been trying to master it for so long, and de de you do it so beautifully, i cant stop watching this clip and envying the way you move, amazing.
Just to clear up everything, I am the blond dancer in this video. It is from a show I danced on called "Hollywood A'Go Go. We were called the Gazzarri Dancers and we have a web site. Thank you all for making this the top GoGo dance video on Utube. My name is DeDe Mollner and I am doing the mashed potato unlike my fellow dancers. Hardest dance to do correctly but get up and try. Good Luck.
DeDe,it was certainly a great time in music....you should write a book about it and include reference to this 'clip'? The "stories" that people who were actually there could tell ! I only saw this on TV b/c i was NO WHERE anywhere near the "action" at the time.
@dancergazzarri Wow, you are a really good dancer. I see that you're the only one doing the mashed potato. I never could and still cannot do this dance. But my dad was awesome.
@dancergazzarri DeDe you were the greatest. Why didn't they have you in the center? I also love the video on YouTube where you are dancing to the Turtles, "It Ain't Me Babe" I am the same generation as you . Would have loved to have danced with you. I won several dance contests, one on top of a drive in bank building that sat in the parking lot of a strip center. Hundreds of kids there that night, great memories.
@dancergazzarri Yikes!! I'm 64 Yrs. old. Liked the song back then with all the other oldies. You are fantastic. I have a lady friend that danced kind of like you. Not quite as good though.More practice was needed. We had fun though.
@dancergazzarri Glad to know you're still around. I've always got a kick out of watching you do your thing while dancing to The Turtles "It Ain't Me Babe". You had that lead guitar player completely thunderstruck, and I always wondered if he asked you for a date after the show? By-the-way, I was 13 back in 65'. Thanks for the memories!
@dancergazzarri You are great darling. You are right it is hard to do correctly . I am 59 and remeber these songs well Those were the good old days. By the way from what I have seen you are doing it very correctly.
@DeafMuteZombie not at all - I mean, yeah, they're just doing the mash potato but damn those chicks are hot, and they're rocking the mash potato. When this was filmed, it was for a national audience, if i recall
@DeafMuteZombie not at all - I mean, yeah, they're just doing the mash potato but damn those chicks are hot, and they're rocking the mash potato. When this was filmed, it was for a national audience, if i recall. Also the mash potato is kind of hard if you do it for more than 30 seconds
I never realized the Mashed Potatoes & The Monster Mash were so similar. The Speedboys used to do the Monster Mash every Thanksgiving. I'm gonna expect some Mashed Potato action the next time I see you.
Thanks Dee Dee, for helping us live thru the Cuban invasion, apartheid in South Africa, segregation in the U.S, the assassination of President Kennedy, and other unpleasantries too numerous to name. Get get your time machine now kiddies.

The question isn't so much whether anyone reaches 60 or 70, as to what they will look back on if and when they do.
CuffedJeans 6 months ago
Just think, these kids are in their 60's and 70's now...Hey, it will happen to you too..

Yeah, you can tell that blonde behind DeeDee really loves to dance. She makes me want to do this dance with her.

I have 6 siblings and we all were dancers in our teens and beyond. A brother who is 1 year older than I danced this dance the best. He later suffered seizures that left him partially paralyzed on one side of his body, but we all have memory and testament of what he once could do with this dance.

Couldn't they give this woman, with this wonderful voice . . . just ONE CLOSEUP. We see so many closeups of these 'no dancin' kids.

@stevenrmc they gave her many closeups. Get real, get honest or............

That film looks like it was taken from a tv dance show, which there were national & local back then, and which would make sense to show people dancing. "No dancing"???...lol. You don't see rythym like that too much today.

Hi DE DE
I love the way you dance as I grew up with the mash potato dance when this video was made!
You are GREAT! I guess it's fun to see yourself doing the dance.
I have made several comments about this song and video, brings back a bunch of memories for me!

@dancergazzarri good job DEDE. I remember watching this show when i was a kid. How long did you dance on the show?

I never realized the Mashed Potatoes & The Monster Mash were so similar. The Speedboys used to do the Monster Mash every Thanksgiving. I'm gonna expect some Mashed Potato action the next time I see you.
