  • shirley temple actually played a mean girl?

  • no me gusta la esclavitud, y menos que los autores sean niños. Es una sutil crueldad!

  • I can't stand any characters in this movie, yet I would watch it again and again as a child.

  • i love this film, does anyone know why you cant buy this on dvd?

    p.s thank you for uploading

  • They apply the same color dramaturgy like in Oz.

I'm sure people compared Shirely's film to Judy's, and judged Oz much better. I agree.

  • I loved this movie when i was kid.

I just hated how nasty they made Temple's character.

    It was a bit annoying.

My favorite line was when the butler introduced Mr. & Mrs. Luxury with a pompously dripping drone, "Mistaar and Missess Lugshuray!"

  • All children should be made to watch this film... and adults and teenagers and old people

  • This is among my top 3 favorite Shirley Temple films- alongside Wee Willie Winkie and Heidi cause these 3 films brought tears to my eyes and nearly made me bust my guts, even as a little girl.

  • I love this movie! Haven't seen it since I was like 9 or 10! I loved Shirley Temple for as long as I can remember.

  • I too loved this as a child and made my mum put rags in my hair everynight!

  • I MISS THIS MOVIE SO MUCH THINHK THE LORD FOR YOUTUBE I SAW THIS WHEN I WAS 5 SO MANNY MEMORIES

  • Aw they have a bulldog.

And why not take the free cookie

  • thnk yu sooooo much for uploading!

  • Thanks for posting this

  • FINALLY! I AM GLAD BEYOND BELIEF TO FINALLY SEE AN UN-PERFECT SHIRLEY!

  • where is my blue bird?

    thanks for uploading.

  • I use to watch this movie since I was so little. I loved this movie and I just ramdomly looked it up. I was born in mid 80's you would want to exsist at that time this movie was made during the second world war

  • I cannot stop laughing at Mytyl being a little bitch. That's how my older sister acts on christmas, she never stops complaining. She even looks like Shirley Temple, except she's 25 lol

  • I absolutlely ADORE Shirley Temple and the other girl, the sick one, played in THE LITTLE PRINCESS with Shirley as Becky, the little maid who lived in the attic with her. But this movie is awful hate to say it. I guess when THE WIZARD OF OZ was taken away from Shir;ey, they had to come up with something to spare her feelings, Imagine, THE WIZARD OF OZ is still box office dynamite. Poor Shirley

  • 1:43 when it said "By order of RUDOLPH IV...."....which Rudoplh...was he an Austrian emperor? Because I looked him up...and NOTHING showed up...The movie looked like the timeline was set in the 1800's...help me!

  • This is one of my favorite Shirley Temple films. I enjoy this fantasy better than "The Wizard of Oz!"

  • Wow! i havent seem this since i was a child. Thank you ever so much for posting it!

And hey doesn't the actress playing "angela" also play "becky" in Tne Little Princess?

  • @Sperrazzajel

The actresss you are thinking of is Sybil Jason :)

  • Wow! i havent seem this since i was a child. Thank you ever so much for posting it!

  • THANKS SOOOO MUCH FOR POSTING!!!!! my sister and i loved this when we saw it like a million years ago and could never find it again....

    ps Shirley looks so old

  • Thank you so much! This is my favorite movie!!!

  • when I was little, I remember thinking how much of a jerk Shirley was in this movie.

  • I love this movie! It was originally meant to be Shirley's "Wizard of Oz", but unfortunately, was not as successful. It's a beautiful movie, however, and I think my favorite Temple movie next to "The Little Princess". I was a Shirley Temple FANATIC when I was a kid, and my mother even fixed my hair in ringlets like hers, LOL!

  • @RETROGEMS

    Ohh.. that is so sweet..

    Thanks for watching!!

  • @RETROGEMS I Love this movie too. I used to rent it from the Library...every summer almost all summer and watch it with my grandmother. It has so many happy memories attached to it for me.

  • @RETROGEMS Well, Shirley for was in line to play Dorothy, but some contract negoiation prevented her, because he was under contract with Fox and MGM was making Oz.

  • @RETROGEMS I was taken to see this movie by a neighbor lady in the late '60s or so, when the movie was hopelessly dated, but she wanted all us kids to see it and I never forgot it. It just didn't come out at the right time, and is generally hard to find. The talent here speaks for itself. Anyone who gets even so much a glimpse of this terrific film never forget it, and we lead others to it! Bless you. There are some important messages here I never forgot. xo from France via the USA

  • @RETROGEMS STUPID OLE' ZANUCK REFUSED TO LET SHIRLEY PLAY IN "THE WIZARD OF OZ." But I kinda am happy cuz i like Susannah of the Mounties". But I still wish Shirley had played in "The Wizard of Oz". btw I live in Mongolia. I'm super mad I mean super ENFURIATED cuz they have R rated movies on 24/7 in Mongolia and they never have Shirley Temple on. :'(

  • I had a phase of younger life in which I watched this movie over and over. I feel like there are many scenes (the scene of the unborn children) which have re-defined my views of life and living over the years. I often think of the grandparents and how their 'life' was restored when the people they loved thought about them. I find myself musing over barely-remembered snatches of this movie from time to time.

It's strange to attribute so much meaning to a Temple movie. But there it is.

  • i wish i could be from that time!! i was born in the 90s it looks more peacefull

but i don't want to be old

  • THX for posting. This is one of my favs!!!! I also love Heidi!!!

  • I haven´t see this movie since i was 8 years old, thank you for posting it... is awesome!

  • @marucha0710

    you're welcome

i have the 1918 too but i don't have time to post it

    thanks for watching!

    have a nice day!

  • dang, shirley temple plays such a brat in this movie!

  • This used to be one of my favorite Shirley Temple movies along with Bright Eyes and Heidi. Personally, I think all of her movies were good.

  • i love this movie too! shirley is soooo pretty in this :)

and her acting...perhabs one of her best performances ever!

  • hey thurr cuz wat chu up to!!!

  • this is such a great movie, thanks for posting Mujer!

  • oh it wasn't this version but the one that starred Elizabeth Taylor.

  • i saw this once when i was young and loved it.

  • AWESOME! Thank you for posting!

  • It was my pleasure! Thank you for your comment!

  • @mujerdelcolegio I really love this movie when the brother and sister went up to the future seeing all the children. The best thing I like to is when they go to the graveyard. And that is my 2 favorite parts I like. What is your part that you like in this. Is this your movie that you are playing on youtube.

  • so the original alternate cast of The Wizard of Oz was the cast of this movie?

  • Originally cast as the Wicked Witch in The Wizard of Oz, Gale Sondergaard was replaced by Margaret Hamilton when MGM decided to change the Wicked Witch from a glamorous character to an ugly one, and Sondergaard refused to wear the necessary disfiguring makeup. Sondergaard plays an important supporting role in The Blue Bird.

  • I think this is the only movie where Shirley Temple's character is a brat-- and only one song! It's always more fun to play a mean person than a goody-goody!
