Catch wrestling is so effective, it's too bad they have to choreograph it to get people to watch. If they decided to have wrestling for real, it would seriously raise the level and there'd be a lot more Gracie Hunters out there.

For example Strikeforce Overeem/Werdum, I don't think Overeem effectively controlled anything, except doing a bit more damage when Werdum took shots going for takedowns. If Werdum didn't have to keep standing up, it would have been a very different fight. One the crowd would have hated, but in my opinion a better one.

It's also around 9 years ago when Inoki still ran New Japan Pro Wrestling and had a working deal with K-1. Then again, shootfighters (from UFO, UWF, K-1 etc. got in the ring with pro wrestlers in Japan regularly, whereas something like that in the US was and is considered inconceivable. The perception of the japanese fan is bit more sophisticated than most other people's, plus the skill level is more complex than it is showmanlike than that of Sports Entertainment...

Shoot Wrestling movement. Sakuraba was a memeber of the UWFi and Kashin was a student of Yamazaki- one of the founding members. Kashin was also considered the toughest man at the New Japan Wrestling Dojo.

You know, as an American it is so surreal to watch a "pro-wrestler" like Kazushi Sakuraba in MMA and then in pro-wrestling. Those of us who aren't Marks know that WWE-style wrestling is fake, it's not real fighting Or wrestling like in MMA and Greco-Roman tournaments. Yet Sakuraba has beaten up some of the best Martial Artists in the world of various disciplines. It's intriguing.
