@beechface1 .... how so? very safe, very roomy, quite quick both speed wise and handling wise.... and contrary to what this video shows, fantastic in the snow. I live in eastern Pennsylvania, and even in the winter with some of the storms that wind up bringing nothing but ice and rain, causing the roads to turn into a solid sheet of ice, i'm still able to drive around.
@theElemDragon ok i shouldnt have been so harsh, ive never driven one so i dont really know, i drive a 1996 mazda miata and that is useless in cold weather, i live in the uk and when the slightest bit of snow/ice hits the ground the back end slides everywhere, i suppose the smart is good because of its short wheelbase?
@beechface1 Haha... yea... pretty much anything that can be classified as a sports car is horrible in the snow. As for the Smart's reason for being quite good in the snow... probably the wheels being somewhat narrow, allowing it to kinda cut through the snow, as well as them being rear-engine RWD... so there's a bit more weight on the drive wheels. Able to drive around on roads covered in solid ice (found that out last winter)... but if the snow goes above the front trim, pretty much boned.
@beechface1 4x4's are nice.... my previous vehicle before getting the Smart was a '99 Dodge Durango. But to be honest.... the fuel costs just weren't worth it, especially when i'm usually by myself (as the majority of people i see driving SUV's and large pickups are). I'm just hoping we get one massive snowfall this winter. LONG overdue for some nice snow here in eastern Pennsylvania. Just snow though... not snow and ice in layers like what knocked the power out for a week a few years ago.
@orourkeusn I think someone actually needs to drive one of those "little piece of shit". My '99 Durango was quite good in the snow.... but i think my '09 ForTwo is almost equal in the snow, and probably BETTER in the ice. Hell, i took my Smart down to an unplowed parking lot, took traction control off, and was doing donuts and drifting around the parking lot. Even when it came to a stop, was able to start going again without a hassle. Granted, can't go in DEEP snow, but same with your Subaru
@BigRogers7870 Engine isn't strong enough to pull 44" i'm affraid.
But once you get from getting to stop from being stuck in the snow, a smart is really good fun on an empty parking lot, i drive one for work :) cant wait untill it starts snowing :D snow is forecasted for the end of this week :D
@BigRogers7870 Its very light weight, it doesn't have enough weight to be pressed on the road, so with snow, and rear wheel drive, it starts sliding very easy, very hard to keep control to due to the short wheel base ;) But so much fun :D
Maybe if he learns how to drive in snow. How the car going to move on all that snow when he's turning the wheel make a path first dummie. Snow driver noob
Well it was last winter. They had to remove a city bylaw prohibiting snow blowers to blow snow if there is more then 2 meters (6ft) of snow on a persons front lawn.
Driving through the suburbs of Quebec city was like driving in a rat maze!
lol, thats so ridiculous. When we get a snow storm, its not like theres a ridiculous height of snow, but its like everything starts to become ruined. aka trees, phone poles, etc
I had go karts bigger than that as a kid. lol You see the prices they want for the pop can on wheels. 20 freaking grand for them pieces of shit. I would go to work in a Polaris Ranger, before you got me in that thing. At least the Ranger can go off road. Plus a guy can buy it for only 12 grand.
if it was really a "SMART" car , they would have made it a front wheel drive, this 'toy' (i dont even want to call it a car) is waaaay to light for RWD and snow.. what were they thinking. what were YOU thinking buying this thing?
Are you serious? The smart being rear engined and having rear wheel drive is very capable in the snow if it has proper tires, much like how a front engined front wheel drive gets better traction than a front engined rear wheel drive car.
what kind of gas mileage does he get stuck in the snow??? I cannot believe he doesn't feel like a total tool driving that thing. That is not even that much snow...but it is sure "cute and adorable".
This being a 450 model, not sure if it has traction control like the newer ones do. Fact remains NO 2 wheel drive car is well suited for snow. With all the effort he put the car into, he could have grabbed his snow shovel , cleared a path and been on his way... or maybe he just wanted to give the car a work out.
Patrick did you mean, he might as well have a lawn tractor? You know, not a bad idea, I wonder if I could shove a mowing deck under mine. Good way to earn some extra cash
theres no way in hell i would drive a car like that, i got a 2005 cadillac escalade, but if i was that guy i would just call a couple of buddies and we would just lift the car right up off the ground and put it some were with less snow
this guy needs serious help someone please he doesnt know how to drive in the snow he needs a truck and a open parking lot he doesnt know what he is missing
I've never driven mine in the snow. But, a whole lotta owners from up north think it does very well ... with good snow tires and its rear engine, rear wheel drive. Ground clearance is low though, so if the snow is very deep and heavy, problems.
if i wanted something that seats two, i would get a motorcycle for half the price of the fortwo that destroys most cars on the road in acceleration and still gets 50 MPG.

BrtshAmerican6 2 years ago
Besides a snow plow or a transport truck, what vehicle would plow through 40 or 50 inches of snow with ease?
huronlad 2 years ago
not with ease but its still possible. and they obviously plow it. haha
BrtshAmerican6 2 years ago
Well it survives winter in Quebec city... which are much worst than any winters you have down south (more than 8 foot of snow)
dmpboss 1 year ago
I highly doubt the snow is that high. quite honestly eight feet is taller than anyone.

A rear engine front wheel drive car, that would be extremely useful in the snow. Right up there with front engine rear wheel drive.
huronlad 2 years ago
i dont see how that would be more useful. rear engine front wheel drive would suck bud not enough weight in the front.
And front engine rear wheel drive sucks dude are you serious? i drive a mustang bud
