  • nd dave taylor.....thats sum low resgister....he does a great lazy style....

  • oooooo charlie parker yardbird suite lick. by conrad herwig.....niicceee 3:16

  • Am I the only one who thinks the Bass Trombone's mic wasn't turned up enough? The third Trombone's could have used a little more.

  • Totally agree... if I had mixed that session I'd have a bunch more bass and a touch more 3rd bone. Great recording nonetheless!

  • I've listened to a lot of different players (instrument wise) and its funny how everyone seems to get at least one charlie parker lick in there.

  • Great musicians!

    Great arrangement!

Love them bones! Especially the bass (Well done David!)

  • that bass bone is cookin

  • Don't get me wrong I love the solo's but i felt they were out of place for the song..?

it sounds like Rosalinoish even though this began as a slow and seemingly smoother song than the solos gave it.. just my 2 cents

    great though!

  • Boy, we don't need your 2cents.LOL What are the chances I'd read a comment and your names on it! Anyway, I agree that starting out they didn't fit, but when Conrad came in the rhythm section finally built to support the style of the solos. Both were great though, love their doodle tonguing. I can't wait to be able to be part of a group like this in a couple months!!! And I would really like to see a jazz trombone group from Townview when I come back for the jazz festival in February!

  • no? lol okay

i'm back to listen to it still yet no love.

  • Jimmy Pugh Steals the show here

  • Jim is reading the changes more than Conrad. Both are incredible players though. Makes you want to crack out the ole trombone and practice the damn thing.

  • That last note was appetizing.

  • very nice, loved the solos

  • Conrad's Herwing phrasing is really great !

  • ... Traumhaft

  • I love Dave Taylor. Where can I buy this music?

  • Not bad playing on such an ungainly instrument, but I didn't hear a JJ, a Jimmy Cleveland or a Frank Rosolino in the bunch.

  • What does that mean, that none of them copied their sounds? It would actually be a shame if we saw another Rosolino here, because the one and only Rosolino was the best for his approach.

You'd never hear somebody say, "You know, he's a good sax player, but he's no Coltrane". There's just bias against trombone players.

  • That was Pugh on the 1st solo and Herwig on the 2nd, right?

  • Yes, indeed. They have such different styles don't you think?

  • when was this....i suppose it gotta be early 90's?

  • R.I.P CONRAD....

  • OMG CONRAD PASSED?

  • ...ummm, Conrad's not dead yet.

  • conrad johnson passed not conrad herwig

  • Gotta love the charlie parker quote Conrad Herwig does at 3:15-3:18

  • Finally someone who knows the music!

  • I wonder how it feels to be at a professional level and still play trombone 3 or 4

  • I personally wouldn't care. You audition for whatever spot is open, so(Even though I guess for this they just decided between them who was going to play what since it wasn't an audition thing).

  • No one auditioned for this.

  • I know. Read what I had in ()s, mate.

  • The lead position is not for everyone anyway.

  • 4th is the bass part, there's a lot of competition to play 4th. and for 3rd, what ever man you still get payed and you don't have to bust your chops.

  • all the parts are important so i don't see the shame in playing 3 or 4

  • Actually playing 4th (bass) is alot of fun, especially when you get the right chart.

  • dude, 4th there isnt any shame at all....bass trombone is a whole new deal in trombone playing.....i personnaly think its as hard as playing 1st...

  • there isnt shame at playing 4th...bass trombone is as hard as playing first....

  • Harder for some people, especially the lead player. Bass is probably more fun also.

  • In fact bass trombone is just as important as the Lead bone player or any player in the section...you gotta be using your ears the whole time cuz if you have the root and you're out of tune then the chord will sound funky and not in tune at all...granted this is coming from a bass trombonist so i may be a bit biased :)

  • They're trombone players, not trumpet players they don't care what chair we get, as long as we get to play!

  • you got it. It's all about havin' a good time!

  • Awesome playing. And I love watching Herwing play, when he dances around it's so funny. But, amazing playing, as you would expect from this level.

  • I've dug Jim Pugh since his days with Woody's band. Conrad Herwig is also one of the best on today's jazz scene! Love the arrangement. Thanks for the great post!

  • super music, trombone is perfect.

    Pawel Golec-tbn

  • like the pianists funny sailor hat... very relevant :D

  • Super trombones!!Very nice!!

    Pablo "golec orchestra"

  • Georgia- is very nice!!

    pablo "golec orchestra"

  • nice!

  • Frank Rossolino, Eddie Bert, Bill Russo and a bunch of others I can't remember were in there swingin' with you. This is music at it's finest. Thank you and keep on swingin'.

  • Damn! The bass bone player is as amazing as the high note guy! WOW!

  • Very nice playing excellent solos.

  • Now THAT's laying back. Outstanding !!!

David Taylor on that low C is unbelievable.

    Woncerful Job, Everybody...!

  • Yeah Conrad! Love the "cool blues" quote. Jim Pugh is pullin out some killin lead too.

  • Really good guys, I love this song and yall don't put it in shame liek some of the other people that play it. And I love the security the one soloist has in the high range, I can hit a triple F but I'm working on security.

    What key is this in?

  • It's in C
