  • hiya long time no see. QUESTION.. there is a local shop in my area that im in hopes of doing business with, however he has giving me quite a challenge trying to find a actual "brim implant". i HAVE LOOKED ALL OVER! i generally make my crochet caps with brims by doing the back and forth method, however he wants the brims in his store to have that super solid brim. DO U KNOW WHERE DO I FIND THIS PARTICULAR PIECE OF PLASTIC OR MATERIAL ? thanks so much my deadline is JAN 27th.TO HAVE IT DONE!

  • My brim came out wavy... Why?

    :(

  • Thanks I followed your instructions and my hat came out perfect, although I used a Ghook because its for my toddler. Thanks for explaining exactly which stitch to go into, that really helped me

  • Wonderful video Teresa! But hey guys check out Down2EarthKreations! Its awesome. Its by my friends mom and her dream is to become big by doing what shes best at.. C R O C H E T !

    Please check her out ♡

Just type in the search " crochet hats and purses utber618 " and then you'll see it! First one.

Please have a heart and comment and rate !

  • Thank you so much for all of your wonderful videos! You have helped turn me into a crochet geek, too! How can I find you on Facebook?

  • When I got to round 5 I ended up with 47 stitches not 50 and I followed the directions =/ Im trying again with a different marker for the yarn. I would really like to make this hat, made the kingston one last night and I have had so many compliments. Im so addicted to your videos and crocheting right now

  • Thank you so much for this..I was wondering why when I make hats, they end up with a point..now I know why, I am going to try to make this...thank you again

  • Thank you so much Teresa! You are my hero, LOL! I would still be making just single crocheted and double crocheted items if it weren't for you. I've been watching you for a few years now. I may even look on Ebay to see if they have any of the mannequin heads.

  • I love all your hats. So far I have made the mans beanie and the kingston. Next I am trying the Raggae Rasta. But I do have a question. Where do you get the mannequin head for modeling the hats? Can you get them at regular craft stores or do they have to be ordered?

  • @marnao122 The first mannequin head was a Styrofoam head purchased from Amazon. I painted it a few different times. They are pretty inexpensive. My current mannequin head was purchased from a local beauty supply store. It was a bit more expensive. The Styrofoam works just as well.

  • i have been trying to create an envelope bag and i have been trying some tutorials i've seen but it is just not working,i do not understand the part where they say eg. chain 32 sc into the 2nd ch from the hook and in each chain across, what do they mean each ch across?please respond....thanks

  • Thank you. This will be my next project. Merry Christmas n Happy New Years!

  • For some reason my brim is ending up wavy, any reason why?

  • im so confused

  • Thank you so much for the video good job u learn so much from you thank you again

  • LOVED it! I tried it & wow!..I surprised myself! Thanks you so much for making those vids! easy to follow

  • che brava

  • super cute, I just got my first hook and yarn to learn how to crochet's I got referred by two people to come check you out, I'm hoping to learn!!

  • Finaly!! I started this today and it only took me a little over 3 hours to finish XD. Time to add my Kitty Cat ears to it. Thank You so much for the vid!

  • @tjw1963 Hi Theresa! I made one of this. Just finished last night. WHat i did is I increase the stitches from 4 single crochet and increase, after that I made an addition 5 single crochet and increase so that it will come up not that small, not that big. Just enough for me. And I love it! I'm gonna make another one for my husband. Thanks a lot for sharing this tutorial.

  • Thank you very much Theresa! I made this the first time with no problems other than I kept forgetting to count. I didn't add the brim on this one but I'm glad I know how to if I ever wanted to.

I appreciate your videos. So easy to learn from.

  • I made three hats with this video and the brim part your basketweave hat. I like to mix and match patterns. You are one of my favorite Youtube instructors.

  • Ty so much! Made this hat. Added an extra increase round and it fit my big head with all my hair. You are an awesome teacher!

  • @SummerABurns Thank you.

  • thank you for this pattern! I did however, find that this made a too big hat for me even though i have a larger head than most so I only added 5 extra stitches on rows 4 and 5 so i ended up with 50 stitches in the end and it works out perfectly and fits great! you are awesome, love learning from your videos :)

  • Hey there could you show me hoe to crochet a beard on a beanie cap or just how to crochet the beard part...Your awesome!!! thx for your videos!!

  • @tjw1963 when i do the first 7 rounds it gets all wavy, but i do it the same way exactly as u.any tips?

  • I made my second hat today. This time I followed your complete video and it looks great. I used Red Heart Cafe (light brown) and did three rows four rows from the end in Red Heart Platoon (mulitple of brown, gray and tan). The Platoon made its own design in the hat. I just love it.

How many rows of the top would I need to do for a mans hat?

I tell all my friends I attend Youtube University and you are one of my instructors in Crochet Class 101.

    Thanks for letting in.

  • I used another tutorial for a beanie and used yours for the brim. The hat looks great. I am going to follow you because you are so detailed.

    Thank you

  • I made this hat, but it seems to be too small, why is that?

  • @yumyums238 maybe you naturally crochet tight, your crochet hook may be smaller or your yarn could be slightly smaller. There are many variable that could make your cap smaller.

  • Teresa-

I made this cap for my mom a year ago. She loved it then but loves it more now. She was recently diagnosed with stage 3 colon cancer and is undergoing chemo. She has lost some hair and this cap covers the "thin spots" beautifully. You made a lovely ladie's battle a little more tolerable. (I'm making her one in every color) God Bless you.

    Tammy

  • @tkaerich Thank you Tammy! I am wishing your mom a full recovery.

  • hey teresa! ive encountered a small problem. on round 2 i keep getting 10 stitches instead of 20? what am i doing wrong?

  • @BPnJC You are not working 2 stitches in the same stitch. On increase rounds, you work more than one stitch, so the crown of the cap expands and gets larger.

  • Hi teacher,this hatfits in a 16 baby girl ?

    Please, let me know !

    Thank You very much

    Zizi

  • I DID IT!! I DID IT & I LOVE IT!!! Thank you so much!! I used H 5mm and my hat is perfect size, trying to change it for my 9 yo. Fingers crossed!!

  • @traciekbarr To reduce the size you can use a smaller crochet hook or you can work less increase stitches and less rounds.

  • Hi Teresa

I keep trying to make an adult hat.. this one in particular and it is not working out!!! it keeps just getting bigger flat and wavy!?

  • Do you think it would turn out ok with a size k crochet needle?

  • @trisha4196 Size K will probably work but keep in mind the hat will turn out larger. You may need to modify if you find it is turning out larger than what you are looking for.

  • can this be made with the brim all the way around the hat..

  • @tjw1963 that makes sense! And since I'm new to crocheting its incredibly possible! Thanks :)

  • My hat came out good but a little wavy in spots, especially brim. Could this be uneven tension? Or too tight?

  • @antye39 It is possible that to many increase stitches were worked.

  • how much yarn do u need?

  • @SuperJustinBieber6 I used around 300 meters.

  • @the michellej123, maybe u used a smaller hook

  • Great job!

  • mine came out fitting my 3 month old. wat did i do wrong help! ive only been doing crochet for a week

  • Is my stitch too tight? I can't get it to stop curling into a circle. This isn't good

  • Are these videos are rated? Easy, medium, hard. Although I am a beginner, I can be a bit ambitious, and need to know if the projects I am selecting required more skill than what I have aquired. Like this hat, that I am in love with!!!!

  • I absolutely love this hat. Tried it and found out that I need a beginner's class. Do u have basic stitch videos or anything that can help. Thanks

  • @tsnell80 I do have a beginner crochet playlist that I will send to to you. There is over an hour of video of beginner tutorials that you can watch over and over again until you get the hang of the basic stitches.

  • Hi it looks so easy but I'm an absolute beginner and I need some help

    - if you have like little bunches of yarn how much yards of yarn do I need to make this

    Thanks

  • The sound of the yarn on this video is comparable to nails on a chalk board. I got about 2 minutes into it and can't take it anymore!! :(

  • @AliMarieG There is a mute on the video player! Once you are familiar with the stitches, you can shut the sound off. There are people from outside the USA who learn from the video alone and don't understand a word I say.

  • nice but here in the philippines is too hard to find a good yarn..

  • @misunlee09 There are some sites that will ship international. You may have to pay a bit more for shipping.

  • hi teresa, i am such a huge fan of your stuff!! thanks for all your postings! i was wondering if you have a viking hat pattern that you could possibly share.

thanks again for sharing all your gorgeous creations! it's much appreciated!

  • thanks you so much for responding love your videos have learn so much by waching them

  • Hi I have done the Hat but it comes small like for a child what do I need to do. I have follow the instructions do I need to add more rounds in the beggining. Thank you

  • @Miss1yoly It is possible that you may crochet tighter, your hook is smaller or the yarn is smaller. You will adjust by work more increase stitches and rounds at the beginning. Increasing is working the two stitches in the same stitch

  • To anyone who wants to make this hat in an infant size, follow the pattern just leave out round 6 and adjust the rest of the rounds to 50 hdc. I am currently making this hat and am using a 4.00 hook. Its the PERFECT size for my almost 4 month old daughter. :) So excited about his hat! Thanks for a great pattern Crochet Geek!!

  • I do everything like you but come anyway the ball .....

  • I very much want to

Crochet a hat ... But when I started to crochet top starts to get me the ball...

  • @agnijah I will send you the beginner crochet playlist. It sounds like you may need to become familiar with the basic crochet stitches

  • hey can you do a video on how to make a penguin? ive been looking but i cant seem to find any good instructions for one. pretty pleaze?

  • @firrel13 That is something that I want to do soon and will work up a tutorial.

  • I can't see where you're making those stitches! T_T I really really want to be able to make a hat like this but I can never tell where you're making your stitches in any of your videos and I get lost right in the beginning. It's really frustrating.

  • i tried doing it but it didn't look like a hat at all .. it was too small (i'm using size 5mm hook ) .. and it was a little twirled over each other like if one edge is headed downwards then the other edge would be headed upwards so it ended in a flat shape and didn't become a hat i don't know what did i do wrong ?!!! .. would you help me ?!!

  • How do I make a small one for an infant? Do I just use a smaller crochet hook or do I lessen the amount of stitches?

  • @yusra93 You can use a smaller crochet hook and/or work less increase rounds.

  • I absolutely love ur videos.. i just started crocheting a few days ago and u make following along in ur videos simple and fun. Now i cant stop lol!

Thank u and plz keep posting new projects :)

  • @brittj194 I have a lot more ideas in mind! I appreciate the comment, thank you!

  • this is way to hard and confusing i dont get the first five seconds of the thing , and every video is like that to me, i dont understand any of them, plz help me:()

  • @goofylego5214 I will send you a playlist with the basic crochet stitches. Once you learn the basic stitches, projects like this will make more sense

  • mine is coming out so small i am using a size H crochet hook.... how do i make a adult one?

  • @Stephy27Pooh I was using a size I/5.5mm hook in the video. You could try using a larger crochet hook, one or two sizes larger. That is the easiest way to increase. The other way is to use your same size crochet hook, and work more increase stitches and additional increase rounds. This will make the hat expand more and get larger, using a smaller size crochet hook.

  • my question is, if u are using a pencil grip couse im looking for them in store and the only thay i find is for pencil not for the needle, and if is that waht u use to stick it to not fall apart. Healp me please........ lol.

  • @YASHIRA133 I am using a pencil grip. For the smaller hooks, I use plastic tubing to compensate for the smaller crochet hooks.

  • my question is, if u are using a pencil grip couse im looking for them in store and the only thay i find is for pencil not for the needle, and if is that waht u use to stick it to not fall apart.

  • i am having the hardest time with the brim i dont think i am doing it right ?

  • AWSOME! it seems easy for an amateur like me jajaa let see what happens when i start with thisss. THX!

  • Help.. my hat is actually very wavy and does not have the shape of a hat! What do i do!? Can i save it?

    thx, Lisa

  • ciao, sei fantastica, riesco a capire tutto anche se non capisco la lingua, sei unica.. ancora complimenti !!!!

  • question is it common for men to crochet?

  • @camodudestrikesagain Yes it is common for men to crochet. Since I have been on YouTube, more men are crocheting. My statistics tell me that 18%-25% of my viewers are male.

  • squeaky yarn

  • Hi I think the hat really well but unfortunately I can not brim, it is either wavy or it hangs, or looks too small, I use the needle size and teaching but it does not work can you tell me how to do it right or could so? lg Nadine

  • I am so confused....once you start on round 7, do you just keep doing the straight 60 HDC, or at the beginning of each round do you do a single crochet, then do the 60 HDC. My hat hasn't begin to look like a hat yet and I'm on round 11?

  • Thanks so much for all your videos! I taught myself to crochet using your videos! Thanks much for posting them! Now I love to crochet!

  • awsome! i love all your videos! I love to crochet but have never been able to read a pattern! i began watching your video's last week ... andd i think i have made one of everything now lol ... your an amazing teacher! oh the possibilities now! before all i ever made was blankets and scarfs!

  • Hi, Teresa

I am trying to make this hat for a 4 year old boy using red heart detroit 3 ply yarn, but I think it' s a bit small. I was thinking I could make a few extra round before the brim.

Ohh and I'm using a 4.5 mm crochet hook and I have a normal tension, I mean not tight.

    What' s your advise?

  • Thank you Teresa! I Finally did it!!! I thought at first it was physically impossible...but after trying and taking it apart more than several times...I figured out what I was doing wrong and by reading your written instructions, I figured out the spot I messed up...and it turned out great...my very first hat...and it's cute! Thank so much for the lesson...you have a new friend in Idaho....I can't wait to do another one! ~Kelly

  • @idahosauce I am glad that you figured it out!

  • i want you will send to me please i will pay u for this crochet hat with brim white please can u send it to me?

  • am i the only person who thinks this shuld be physically impossible for any human to do?

  • @mattiemanable This is the connection that we have with spiders and the Internet! We both weave webs.

  • is there a way to measure it? or possibly a number of rows that's a neutral size for adults? and one for kids?

  • @taleflame There are many variables that will make the size different each time. The size of the crochet hook, the size of the yarn, how many stitches are in each round and your personal tension.

  • I made this and it came out good, a little small but okay :)

  • @ladyofthelake3 You can make another one and use a larger crochet hook.

  • Came out wonderful! Thank You so much Teresa you are so talented.

  • I'd love to make this hat if I ever learn the basics of crochet.

  • @MostHigh1979 I will send you a playlist with the basic stitches.

  • @tjw1963

Thanks. Sorry this was my first time stopping by. I was in awe and didn't look for basics. I've been considering purchasing a hat like that but the prices were ridiculous. Thanks again.

  • @tjw1963 I'd Love to see some basic steps too - so I can follow this video :)

  • @MostHigh1979 If I can do it... you can do it! For two years I'd been trying to understand the concept of crocheting a hat. I found TJW on the internet and learned in one day! I'd say stick with the basic single crochet and make patterns using that, then graduate up to half's, and doubles, slip stitches etc. That's how I did it. Good luck, and don't ever give up. Once you get it, it'll be hard to put it down!

  • Hi, I LOVE this hat and think it's super cute. It turned out perfect. I was wondering what the best route would be to downsize this style hat to a toddler size hat. I want to make one for my little girl and her head circumference is 18 inches.

  • Hi, I LOVE this hat and think it's super cute. It turned out perfect. I was wondering what the best route would be to downsize this style hat to a toddler size hat. I want to make one for my little girl and her head circumference is 18 inches.

  • on round 3, do you mean do 1HDC in nxt stitch and then the next stitch do 2, then 1, then 2 etc? or do you mean do 1 HDC in nxt stitch and then do 2 in the rest of them all the way round??

  • if i was to make a magic circle would i have to do round 1, if so, how many.

  • Thank you very much for this video! I've just started to crochet and I already made a scarf and now, with the help of your video, I made the hat ! You are a great teacher! But I've got one question: I did everything like you did, but my hat is a small version of yours (and I did the same amount of stitches and stuff). How does that come?

(Sorry for my bad English, I'm from Belgium ;-) )

  • Thank you so much for this video, I tried to make a crochet hat with brim but it seemed too difficult. Now I can do it well:)

  • @hathao166 It is great to hear that it turned out for you! Please share a picture or a video response!

  • i made this hat it was way to biggggggg waht did i do wrong

  • @cbestify It is possible that you may have used a larger crochet hook and/or larger yarn. Maybe to many increase stitches were worked. I do have the written instructions posted on my crochet blog so you can check the stitch count.

  • My hat turned into just a big circle. What did I do wrong?

  • @HDBWDB It sounds like you may have continued to increase which will make the hat continue to lay in a circle.

  • Hi, Right after you joined the tenth half double crochet to the next stitch to start round 2, you showed us about the confusion with crocheting between the stitches....you then proceeded to crochet more half double crochets. How many did you do? Then all of a sudden you're saying that you have 10 half double crochets and that you have 10 more to do. I'm so confused...maybe if you could include a "round" list in the info box saying how many half double crochets are in each round, that may help.

  • @jmpinkie The information you are asking for is provided on my crochet blog. You will find the link in the video details below the video.

  • @tjw1963 Thank you! But I still must be misunderstanding something. In your blog, round 1 is10 HDC in Loop. Do not join and work in continual round. What do you mean not to join and work in a continual round? Do I do more HDC after the 10 I already did into the loop? And then 2 HDC in each HDC around for round 2? I'm sorry!

  • i really dont understand it :(

  • @dutterdiedutch I will send you a playlist for the beginner crochet stitches. Practice with the basics and then come back to try out an easy project like this hat.

  • Hi Teresa.

What's the difference between Worsted yarn and Medium Worsted yarn?

  • @MsLibranz This is a question that would be best answered by one of the yarn companies.

  • I had difficulty starting off, it begins to curve up like a mini hat. What have i done wrong?

  • @12Nusoul You may have missed some increase stitches or used a yarn/hook that is smaller than what I used.

  • Hi! I'm loving all your posts and your blog. Just wondering can this be made smaller for a baby or toddler? Would I just change my hook size? Also is there a specific difference between left and right handed? I'm left handed but have just learnt my stitches from watching right handed people? Would they still be right? Thanks again for all your post!

  • @LeeshMedia You can use a smaller hook to make the hat smaller. Smaller yarn will work too. If you visit my main channel, you will find a playlist with hats that are smaller for children. Crochet is the same for right and left hand except for the direction. You can decide which tutorial you want to use.

  • my god!!! she has magic hands! impossible for me to do the same, i´m a man!!!

  • @fernandovoyages1 Maybe one day you will want to learn!

  • How long does it take you to Finnish one of these?

  • @23bianca97 It might take about 1-2 hours.

  • isn't this the same as ur other vid 'crochet a cap' ?

  • THANK YOU! GREAT HELP WITH THIS TUTORIAL AS ALWAYS!

  • @LDGANDDGP7 You are welcome.

  • Is there a way I can make the top a bit rounded instead of squared as so? I'm wanting to make a rasta cap with a brim but cannot find afree pattern for one. Need some help!!

  • @thumbalina223 Less increase stitches per round, more increase rounds will provide a gradual more rounded look. I hope that makes sense.

  • Worsted yarn is so cringe worthy. It makes that terrible rubbing sound. XD I hate that when I'm crocheting with worsted yarn. I try to avoid it XD

    Nifty idea.

  • @MidoriGal17 You can always tell when I am using acrylic yarn, especially in the summer with the squeaking.

  • sry but what is an increase?

  • @dawnakaangel An increase is where you are working two or more stitches in the same stitch. It is so the crown of the hat will expand and increase in size.

  • I love the squeeky noise your hook makes at the beginning of the video, it's adorable and funny at the same time. n__n I knit as apposed to crochet, but I would love to get into this. I just loose count. ): I can't count very well at all. Any Tips?

  • I must Thank you! You have taught me to crochet. I could barely do a chain and now I have christmas presents for the whole family. Hats with and without flower, socks, booties and baby hats, even working on a blanket now. So thank you and Merry Christmas, in this time were times are tough it's great that you've been so kind to teach with such patience and for free. I can now give presents to the family when last year I couldn't so thank you thank you!

  • I love this hat! It is a great addition to cute winter attire... But i do 2 rows on the brim, and I love it!

  • whenever i am working in the round or using increases... the top of my hat is always very wavy or frumpy. for example, the last increase for this hat (60 stitches) made the hat look like some kind of polygon... what am I doing wrong with the hats?

  • help my brim is wavy what am i doing wrong? thanks in advance

  • @kayah281 You can try working less stitches so it is not as full.

  • thank you for all your videos. i have made this hat for the first time but i can't seem to get the brim right,it is turning out wavy. please help me what am i doing wrong?!

  • I am new to crochet videos on youtube. Yours are the BEST i have found so far! Please please pleaaaase make some tutorials for making pet clothes! Like hats and sweaters....Those would be big hits!

  • @doxiemomma87 I appreciate the comment, thank you!

  • thanks alot...i have made one hat-came out nice!!!

  • @TheMalibu225 You are welcome!

  • Hello - first I want to say thank you for such great videos! They are really helpful for beginners. Secondly I want to ask you a question. I am looking to make a hat like this, with a brim, but a bit baggier. Maybe could better be described as round in shape, rather than form-fitting to the head of the person wearing it. Could I use this pattern and just maybe add increases in certain spots, or what would be the best way to do this? Thank you so much :)

  • @goduckiego Yes, you can use this pattern and then work a full brim around the hat. You will evenly work increase stitches around the hat.

  • Thanks so much for this. I made this hat for myself and my newborn daughter. Can't wait to see her in it.

    '

  • Thanks so much for this. I made this hat for myself and my newborn daughter. Can't wait to see her in it.

  • @rocnroots Congratulations on the new baby!

  • I made a hat using the puff stitch and I added the brim you are making in this video following your instruction, but my brim ends up wavy. Could you tell me what am I doing wrong?? Thanks

By the way, your videos are very educational and very easy to follow. I love them.

  • @HelgaRL It is possible the brim is to full. Try working less stitches to see if that helps.

  • @tjw1963 Do you mean working less than the 38 total stitches or not doing 2 HDC in one at the start of the brim? Mine usually comes out wavy also - have been wondering how to correct this. I LOVE this pattern and already have 10 orders for them for my fundraising effort. Thank you so much!

  • @Kathypinaz Work less than 38 stitches and not working increase stitches. Increasing is working two stitches in the same stitch. To many will make the brim wavy.

  • @tjw1963 Ok, I tried it by alternating 2 HDC and then 1 HDC for the first row of the brim instead of 2 HDC in each. I still worked it for 19 stitches. It came out much better and no waves. Thank you for your response and all of your wonderful hard work.
