i'am reconstructing Historical martial arts, and i never find one source were the buckler was worn on the sword arm. But your idea of it's use is right but pratically you reach this goal with crossing the arm

pretty cool but the only problem is the buckler was worn on the sword arm and was used after one had swung the sword thus leaving there guard down the buckler worn on the same arm was then used as protection from the counter blow and was used in addition to the shield that was held in the oppositt hand ,the buckler was worn the shield was held, kurt buckler
