Jesse...Nice tune and well played. You have a nice dulcimer that sounds real good also. Please let me know it the lyrics below are from the same song. Thanks Dave Sumer is ycomen in, Loude sing cuckou! Groweth seed and bloweth meed, And springth the wode now. Sing cuckou! Ewe bleteth after lamb, Loweth after calve cow, Bulloc sterteth, bucke verteth, Merye sing cuckou! Cuckou, cuckou, Wel singest thou cuckou: Ne swik thou never now!
Thanks Jesse...The lyrics I provided were obtained from the Luminarium web site. The song was listed under Middle English Lyrics - Cuckoo Song. I checked in an old dulcimer book of mine and found Sumer Is Icumen In with the same lyrics, so I'm surprised to see it listed as Cuckoo Song on the Luminarium. I have a lot of fun chasing these old folk songs and I've made my share of wrong turns. Thanks for providing the lyrics to your song.
Sorry Guy...I had you confused with Jesse the Bard of Cornwall with whom I communicated earlier this week. I remember you now from some of our modal discussions on the Everything Dulcimer web site among other things. Sorry for the error. Also, I found a Cuckoo version with your lyrics at the folkinfo website. It appears to be in Cm and I'm still studying it to see if it is close to your version, which I've watched 5 or 6 times now. Is your version Aeolian mode?
No worries at all Dave. I know how easy it is to get us all confused. I do it myself often. Yes, it is in Aeolian mode. I should probably have uploaded a version with vocals too. Maybe I will!
A fingerpicker who picks in the pick well of the instrument. You must have really tough fingers. Enjoyed this a lot. I have a Stockard "on order" and had never heard one...thanks for the opportunity
@6FIDS Hi! I'm not in the deep of the well... I'm actually picking right at the top of the fret board. Just kind of hard to see in this video... I like your videos a lot!
This is a truly beautiful version of this song. Thank you for sharing :)

@dholeton Hi No, those lyrics you posted are for the song Sumer Is Icumen In
The lyrics for this version of the Cuckoo are:
Oh the Cuckoo, she's a pretty bird
She sings as she flies
She brings us good tidings
She tells us no lies
She drinks from white blossoms
For to keep her voice clear
But the more she sings Cuckoo
The Summer draws near.
