Please watch the direspectful comments about my uncle! I post this video for my family to enjoy and the hateful comments are causing pain. Thank you for respecting my family's wishes.
@Darwyn7 The comment left was very disrespectful to our family! My uncle was murdered and if his daughter (my cousin) who was present in the house and suffered injury saw this comment she would be so hurt! I don't know if you meant to be rude but my mother, his sister is offended and so am I! Get the facts about someone before you go posting harmful comments. My grandma and pop which are his parents would slip back into a deep depression if they saw this! Please watch what you say
I was a Red Sox fan in those days but rooted for the Astros in the NL. I was devastated when he passed away. He was quite a pitcher and I got to see him pitch on an NBC game of the week. The Astros could really have used him in the later 70's when they got good.
@jerryg1964 Surprised that Curt Gowdy and his cohort aren`t still talking about that 3 inning blast during their play by play in this video.I read that Doc Ellis finally got to face Reggie Jackson some years later and,in retaliation, stuck a fastball in his face that smashed his glasses.Reggie said that he was lucky not to have been killed!
My favorite All-Star game, played in my hometown ballpark. 20 future hall of famers, 11 NL & 9 AL, played in this game. Also Sparky and Earl, the managers. I have the complete original broadcast of this game on dvd.
@oldredbarnman This was the first All-Star game I ever watched.... and you are so right as it is my favorite as well. Plus Curt Gowdy broadcasting the game was icing on the cake.
Thank you all for taking time out to view this footage and leave your wonderful comments about my uncle! You put a smile on my familys hearts to know people still appreciate him! God bless your hearts!
I remember your uncle very well. Not only was he a great pitcher, he was one of the better, if not the best hitting pitchers of his time. I was in 10th grade and I remember hearing on the radio when they announced his death. It was so sad.
Great video! I remember watching this on TV when I was 10 years old. Now I'm about 15 to 25 years older than any of those guys at that time - can't believe Killebrew is gone.
Pause at 4:32 it looks like the MLB logo, even though MLB claims it isn't Killebrew, Killbrew swears it was him, I think MLB just said it wasn't, just in case Harmon wanted to get paid for it! You be the judge.
@JENDALL714 I always heard it was him. If they claim it wasn't supposed to be him it's a lie for financial reasons. BTW it's no wonder games last 5 hours now, just watch how fast the game goes from pitch to pitch and batter to batter. Along with just Gowdy calling it, no fanfare in between every pitch and microanalysis of everything etc.
Nice, no stupid graphics to distract from the game! No coming up on FOX at the bottom of the screen! I like the split screens they use to do in the 70's so you can see the runner also, they don't use the split screen as much anymore.
Wilson could bring the heat. It's so tragic that he died young and then later on J.R. Richard, who was also brilliant had a stroke and later died. The Astros seemed cursed. Well that and some bad trades.
Ironic that Wilson was pitching to Johnny Bench. Those two did not like each other and had several run-ins during their careers. Similar to when Clemens had to pitch to Piazza in an All-Star game. Don Wilson was a bad dude. Bill Buckner was flat out afraid of him.
Don Wilson was an excellent pitcher. Good to see some footage reflecting his talent.
