are you kidding me! without much money, i have been able to get better lighting than this, and what kind of camera is that anyway. i think this is just a cheap, fast video to teach newbies how to set up lights for studio.
You're not copying a two dimensional subject such as an old photo or a work of art.
The lighting is not flattering to the subject and you have terrible cross shadows on the background. This is nothing more than throwing light at a subject, not unlike throwing over ripe tomatoes or a cream pie at a politician. I remember a time when people learned their craft before they tried to teach it.
Digital makes for easy access but doesn't make one a master of the craft.
C R A P P Y! .... I can even shoot great photos with just a $30 single strobe vivitar 285 and a softbox with my d70! Dont impress people with your gears, impress them with your results!
It's true that it's not the gear that makes the photo, it's the photographer. But I gotta say in this case it's both that are poor! I assume that wasn't his paying client.. Otherwise I think he would have got a slap!
Nothing wrong with using natural light... "Not being able to control" it is untrue, you do have some control, through your camera settings (Instead of shooting on AUTO... as at 1.51...) tripod for camera not really required... not flexible enough...
and camera in between two lights? not necessarily...
For studio / portrait photography do you recommend the continuous lighting or would you recommend to use speed lights through the same setup (3 point lighting setup)?
For studio / portrait photography do you recommend the continuous lighting or would you recommend to use speed lights through the same setup (3 point lighting setup)?
@bernhardtsen74 I don't know exactly how long the battery lasts, but I've never had to swap it out for my spare during any studio time, and that can last several hours for me. I don't do anything too extreme with it either; no burst mode or crazy bracketing, so I take a fairly limited number of exposures. Don't get too caught up in gear envy though... learn to take great pictures with the equipment you have; learn about and how to use the qualities of light and design elements!
@bernhardtsen74 I'm not quite sure if you are referring to battery life when you're shooting video, but it should last more than 10 minutes. Most likely your memory card is filling up; try getting one with more space on it. You can get ok 16gb cards from Wal-Mart for $18. Hope this was helpful!
Hi, how do you prevent the strobe light from blowing the fuses? Is there an equipment for that? I recently bought a strobe kit, and the circuit breaker in my house blew out when I used three strobes at the same time.
How many wattoseconds of light do those Sachtler strobes produce? Do they have built in slave triggers? Just curious, are those the lights that Amazon has a special on...the 180ws strobes in the 3 light kit?
Unless you're talking about direct and harsh sunlight right on your subject, you can easily control/get rid of ambient light by raising your shutter speed to at least 1/250th. Also, high ceilings have absolutely nothing to do with a soft quality of light. If you want soft light, get a softbox and get it in close to your model.
If yo are interested in photograph ,you can browse my channel ,wish you like it and sub it .welcome to share the recources with each other.Thank you very much.
Thank you for your clear instructions and video. I am about to take picture to sell online and portraits of my family. Now that I have come across your video, I think I can start the process.
I have to but the kits. Where or what would you recommend to a beginner?
not much useful in this one

The first thing I'd do is ask the model to wash her face. It's shiny with oil.

@PewSplat I use 8gb and no matter how big the card is, its programmed to only film for 10 minutes!!!!!
you can shoot a 5 minute clip and stop, then start recording again and you can film for 10 minutes maximum!
no matter what the quality is!!!!

why do you use landscape mode for a portrait? .. i thought humans are higher than wide .. a simple 90° would be much more efficient!
