@DrFabiolous In the U.S., "premed" refers to your undergraduate bachelor degree. Near the end of that, the premed kids are all stressing to take standardized tests, fulfill rigorous application requirements, and try to outshine the many others whom they are competing against for the limited number of graduate med school positions available. To "get in premed" here is to be an 18 year old freshman just out of high school. Med schools here don't accept unproven undergrad freshmen.
@rmcdaniel423 In Canada (Quebec), we have 5 years of high school, followed by 2 years of pre-university studies called CEGEP,
After you apply for Medecine at University. That is the most stressing period of your life.
If accepted, your first year is called pre-med. followed by 4 years of Doctorat in Medecine. Followed by 2 years of residency for General Medecine or 5 years of residency for specialty.
@DrFabiolous The typical progression goes something like this:
High school, 4-year undergrad "premed" bachelor degree (often bio major, or similar), standardized MCAT tests & competitive applications to med schools, 4-year graduate med school plus internship rotations, Doctorate & Licensing, additional post-graduate residencies in a chosen specialty, sometimes even more specialized training in a Fellowship. Someone will correct me if I'm wrong. (I'm not a doctor)
I got no problem with gunners at all, the real problem is the Premeds/Residents/Physicians with god complexes and act like they are the be all and end all of Science, therefore anyone who actually aims another Science career is a dumbass who got rejected from Medical School.
I met many, many students with GPAs above 3.9x and killer ECs but who never actually wanted Medicine, they decided that Research was good for them.
Remember, you're a Doctor, just a Doctor, not the fucking President.
@WarrenAch You take pride in being a very good video game player, and you are joining the Canadian army. So what exactly are you doing with your life that gave you license to act like such a pompous douche bag? You are neither intellectually nor creatively capable of entering any type of science related field, medicine and research included. What are you, 45 with an IQ of 85? :)
@Michael326 You gipsy ain't any better, blaming me for playing video games, yet you got tetris vids on your channel, and i still got way more subscribers than you and a much higher GPA from a much more regarded school than the TTT you're going at, so you can keep hating, slit your wrist and think about doing an overdose.
Now you can keep on talking shit so i can laugh at you some more =)
@WarrenAch On the one hand...thank you. It's flattering that I pissed you off that much. On the other hand...are you actually representative of the intelligence level of most people I've pissed off? I hope not. I'd like to think I've reached a little further to the right side of the bell curve. :)
@WarrenAch Nice try. You're still making assumptions that are far from the truth. I won't deny or confirm them since the issue at hand is the fact that you assumed it.
Go ahead and believe that joining the Canadian army will help you. Never mind that the odds of you actually succeeding are around one in a billion.
All that's really occurred here is that you got called on something and you're trying to helplessly find a way to cover your ass.
Don't worry. It's nothing personal. Most people understand that credentials on the internet mean shit, and that only people with low IQ's resort to shouting income figures in order to determine one's self-worth.
If you had self-respect, as your acts of bravado substantiate, then you would stop replying. But at the same time, when you let me have the last word, you're effectively saying that I was right about you all along.
Either way, I win, but at least you get to choose how. :)
@Michael326 LOL, you're the one who started bragging about being a PGY-2, either read your first comment or delete it to save yourself from an argument failure.
Anyways, nobody will believe you, judging from your elitist/low-self confidence attitude that you clearly showed earlier.
But okay, looks like i got you mad over the Internet, that was my plan, to mind fuck you until you lose...
Because you ain't gonna do shit, is it working ? It's working the hell outta you isn't it ?
@WarrenAch considering the number of years docs are stuck in school..= quarter of their life.. most of us will be assholes with giant egos by the time we start practicing.. most of us will be narcissistic jerks .. its just normal hahaha
@carfan2k2 Haha if we are not narcissistic jerks, that will be viewed as incompetence, I was a researcher first before I went to medical school, let me tell you in the research world your opinion will be thrown out and you will be shunned if you are not a narcissistic jerk lol, my professor had a multimillion in revenue medical device firm and one of his friends has a billion dollar in revenue company in another country, they want you to argue with them, or they will not trust you.
@WarrenAch You have good points until your last one. Presidents come and go with the tides. They're just hollow puppets that are looked up to only by those who are completely ignorant of how the world works. Doctors have real, tested, knowledge that stays with them for life and that they use not to win poll numbers, but to save people's lives.
As a 3.96 grad, resident and interviewer who actually sees applications, i can assure you that the schools r still filling with brighter and brighter kids each year, and competition is as stiff as it has ever been.
As medicine becomes less and less desirable a field to go into, I guess we'll start seeing less and less desirable people entering that profession. Look what happened to the UK after nationalized medicine. All their PHS doctors are from India, Pakistan, or the middle east. Here in the US we're going to get a bunch of semi-intelligent, big ego monsters who people will HATE to have treat them.
@1ozymandias That's the problem, most of the smart people out there prefer gunning for big money and go to Top B-Schools/Law Schools or go to Research fields, so what we're left with? Retarded pre-meds who only look at Prestige to make their career choices and are convinced they will become Neurosurgeons because they got an A in their General Chemistry class.
No, getting into Med School is not that hard anymore, 3.2 is a guaranteed spot at a TTT Med School in U.S.
@WarrenAch Are you kidding me? Maybe you should read up on some facts before making a retarded statement like that. A 3.2 will barely get you into a top 4 in the Carribean
@MrLoodogg Fuck that, a 3.2 is way enough to get into a Fouth tier Med School that has low standards in the middle of wyoming.
I'm not talking about Harvard Medical School genius, just face the reality, maybe you can't believe me because it would make your 4.0 and trip to africa less appealing, well suck it.

When we get in premed in Canada, we are already accepted in medical school. I don't get the concept.

Oh and you got something the guys trying to serve their country ? (I'm in the reserves by the way, not full time).
Grow a pair and go say your bullshit outside, then tell me if you don't get your face fucked up.
It must suck to only have an M.D. with 200k debt and then get dissed by a dude who got a 105k/year job lined up with no debts, you're mad ?
