What about the politicians though? If a politician said "Vote for me and I'll make sure you get a decent well paid job" shouldn't a person on welfare get the chance to vote for that candidate?
Your argument is better suited to forbidding the wealthy from being eligible to participate in the electoral process. Tax benefits for the wealthy and federal contracts to the Military-Industrial Complex dwarf the expense of entitlements and benefit far fewer people. The unfortunate do not inherently forfeit their rights by virtue of their misfortune.
Abuse is a bad excuse.

(2/2) People just quit their jobs to stay at home and do nothing, why would they want to work if the can tell the doctor that their back or knee hurts, and then get everything the need (and then some) from taxpayer money through the government? Norway might the best country in the world to live in, but just for the weak, sick and lazy. For the rest of us, people that like to work hard and earn what we get, the system is just bad.
Liberal ≠ Leftist. You should look up the political compass.
@whatever19535 You're talking as if the cheating sick bastards are robbing you of your quality of life. It's not really a problem, it's blown out of proportions.
@winstono75 "It's not really a problem, it's blown out of proportions"? It IS really a problem, and it is not at all blown out of proportions. Here in Norway I pay 35% income tax on everything I earn, I pay additional 25% Value Added Tax on everything I buy, and if I want to buy a car I pay as much in additional taxes as the car costs. In the local grocery store I pay $4 for one bottle of the cheapest beer, and in the gas station I pay $10 a gallon. Politicians robbing me? Hell yes.
@whatever19535 I'm Norwegian myself, so I'm aware of all that. I was talking about the perception of people taking advantage of the disability system.
You're complaining for no reason. Even with all the taxes you have more money to spend than most people in whatever country whose system you favor.
@winstono75 So if you just keep saying that I'm complaining for no reason, then it must be so? I strongly disagree, I can't see why your morality should be superior to mine. You still fail to acknowledge the fact that government officials are creating laws that allow them to steal from hard working people in the name of "equality", which it really isn't. I don't give a sh*t if you think that I have enough money as it is, that's really not for you to decide.
"Liberals use welfare as a legal way to buy votes", what a load of bullshit. I'm a right wing libertarian, and I think the government welfare programme should be as small as possible. By the way, I live in Norway, one of the most socialist contries in the world, and I see daily what an oversized welfare system does to people. Norway's rated as one of the best contries in the world to live in, yet for some reason we have more 'sick' people here than any other European country.
This is definitely a different tact you have taken. I would not have thought of taking fundamental rights from people as an expense in exchange for receiving government assistance. Is human nature in America so far gone as to lead us to believe that the power of our ideals are strong enough to convince people on GA that we have to answer to their problems? I believe it is on us to convince people that the welfare state is a trap that only serves to empower the left to every aspect of their life.
You are the one who has to give a good reason why these people shouldn't be allowed to vote. The burden of proof is on you and your view is a controversial one because it is our constitutional right to vote! Why shouldn't these people be allowed to vote? They have committed no crime, most are just living under circumstances that are out of their control. OF COURSE YOUR POSITION IS CONTROVERSIAL, YOU ARE SAYING WE NEED TO TAKE AWAY THE MOST BASIC RIGHTS OF POOR PEOPLE! What's next castrating them
I was on welfare for almost a year. I couldn't find a job. I was on 200 fortnight living in a crap hole and I should not be able to vote just because I am on welfare? Living on welfare is not nice. Also people on welfare are in the minority.
@loui4125 wow if that is the case then my state has most of that minority in it. I actually am seeing less and less of people who are not using some kind of welfare. I get angry with people who have 35k cars and are using food stamps, wik programs, and cash that comes from my pocket. Heck, the other day there was a gal who just without caring the lady asked which she said to use the gal went use the food card I don't know how much is on it I don't care then threw out her visa to pay the $2 left.
@loui4125 my sister's ex husband and girlfriend conned the state programs out of 125 toys for their six kids which included three game systems and 6 games. That year my sister with her own 2 kids (one his he disowned) and myself with my one had to scrape by to just get one for each of our kids and we work for our living. They get from grants 9k a year and from taxes like 7k a year plus food and living assistance and are not even looking for a job. Thats not even it I hear all the ways to cheat
@loui4125 the state. You may have been one of those rare cases where there was no choice but that is not the majority at all. I agree people on welfare should not be able to help vote in politicians that will help them stay on welfare. I live in a blue state split down the middle where one side is the poppers and the other the princes and guess what the princes get to do while we work our rears off? only 9 counties out of 41 are blue the rest are red. 1 county makes up 1/3 of the votes cont.
@loui4125 and guess what they have most of them on welfare. I wonder what would happen if they were taken out of the voting process? We might actually get the changes we need around here
you are a fucking idiot.

Welfare should not result in disenfranchisement IT SHOULD DISAPPEARE. Redistribution of wealth on any level is theft. No exceptions.

Not only that, but there should be a 2 year cap. If after 2 years you still haven't gotten it together, cut off.
