He is such a big example for all of us, machAllah, if only we could see...Study about his life!!! He was in the music. He is an expert in this field. He came out of it for so many years and reflected, studied. Finally he came to the conclusion that the use of musical instruments in our work is fine as long as it does not prevent us from worshipping our Lord...

When music instruments are used by shaytan it should be forbidden. Aka music by disbelievers. That means for instance, no gangsterrap. But music by believers, such as David, who uses music instruments in celebration of God, should ofcourse be legal. There are many examples of this, in the west, Jesus Culture, Kari Jobe, Sami Yusuf etc. In the east music has been used by sufis for centuries. I think music has a lot of power, and we should not neglect its development, and power to influence.
