Am I the only one? I can listen to this song over and over, especially the talk box. Mid 70's for at least one summer his songs reigned at the top. He was respected. He was not dismissed as teen idol type. Too bad he did not attempt another live followup, even if it did not do as good
@SmokeandVapor Yes. And i believe a Leslie Speaker is in there too. I really love his sound. Its very unique. But i prefer it during this era. Today everything is digital. Its not the same to tube amps.
@Stuka1494 he's right you have really nuthin that will ever match the 60's, 70's, or 80's for that matter but ya i guess you are missin out in all that excellent rap

Possibly one of the greatest end solos ever put on tape. Epic is too small a word. Its not that it is overly fast or flashy but that is gradually rises up and up until it pretty much takes flight and then holds your attention to the very last note.
In 76 i set my speakers on top of my car at my high school and EVERYBODY asked me who this was....half the school went to Anaheim to see him. 60% of the audience were females. I've been to a LOT of concerts in my 52 years of life and this was by far the most awesome. Peter captured his audience with his "Good time" personality. After he finished the band "Yes" followed with the first lazer light show ever. It blew everyone's mind. It's no wonder this is the #1best selling Live album EVER.
I HATE the use stupid catch phrases but one applies here... One of the best songs EVER! I still remember taking the cellophane off my double 33rpm record set "Frampton comes alive" back in 1978. Remember my brother wearing out his 8 track copy, a couple of them. Of all of the recordings of the crowd, after a song, THIS recording is probably the best I have ever heard. They go crazy for at least 2 minutes and the sound just gets louder and more full. Incredible!!!! Being there must be awesome!!!
WOW... Listening to this reminds me of the summer of 1976. I was 14. I used to lay in bed at night with the lights out listening to WBCN. When this came on, it was absolutely hypnotic. I hate to say "Those were the Days" but when this came out, popular music was still an ART, before the days when Yuppies took a legitimate form of artistic expression... and completely destroyed it.
I remember radio in those days cut out the entire solo to make it fit between their commercials. You had to find a late-night FM station with a DJ high enough to chance his job on playing the whole thing uncut.
Takes me back to seeing him perform this live @ the old JFK Stadium in Philadelphia in 1977. I became the best air guitarist in history listening to this song!!
I remember this from my child hood. I'm 43 now but listened to this track many times and I saw my dad listen to it with such passion. He past a while back, and was normally so serious. When I hear this song I think of him letting go and really feeling the music. I'm glad i share that with him. Thanks for putting it on youtube.
@Dinger2003 What you do is have Justin Beiber go on after this song and do his gay little "baby Baby" then all the mall rat fans can see the nonsense they listen to in comparison to some real music.
The finale of this track is one of the all time finales on a vinyl record. Sure there are better endings and there are certainly better records. But this one has a sense of joy and togetherness about it, which includes the audience shouts and screams as a major contributor to the track and the album as a whole, as they show their appreciation to Pete's, and the rest of the band's, playing. It brings an immense smile to the face. Play while sitting in a traffic jam. It should see you through.
@fuckoff187 I agree! To me its what makes a good musican. If you look back at the 60's, 70's, and 80's the best musicians sounded better live. They added a unique touch to it that only came out in that moment.

As amazing a MASTERPIECE as this STILL is; it was even MORE magical-sounding back in the days when it came out --- a totally sexy, innovative, invigorating and transcendental experience.
Them majestic days of Rock&Roll have long been infected by, and Gone With, The Bieber Winds of Our Musical Insanity. And shame on me, too, for even uttering the very name of the Dark Mediocre Lord of our musical discontent. lol
P.S./BTW: Some of us STILL feel like we used to. ;)
@NothingMaster I agree with you 100%. Those wonderful days when ONLY TALENTED MUSICIANS like this were allowed to succed. BTW this piece and Rock&Roll in general owes so much to blues. Its amazing that in this guitar solo you can hear ghosts from the delta crying with sadness.
@chickenman136 John Siomos.. NO!! Not a bro. And a VERY good drummer!!. One of the overlooked "Great" drummers.. One of the steadiest beats going. And minimal flash and dash. He serves the song perfectly.
@chickenman136 LOL!!! No not a bro!! Think he might be Greek or Italian. He's dead now!! So is Bob Mayo on keyboards. The only surviving guys from this band are Stan Sheldon (bass) and Peter. This song is classic not just because of Peter but because all the other guys are dialed in as well. Everyone is "in the zone" Stan Sheldon lays down some really funky bass groves if you listen and Siomos is just rock steady in this. He is one of my favorite drummers.
@roquefortfiles but how does this make him not a bro? i don't see your angle. he sounds like the guy in 'ain't no sunshine' by billy withers, look at the video and tell me this guy is not a bro
Frampton at his best.....greatest talk box song ever recorded in live version. Never to be matched or duplicated. One of the best feel good songs of the 20th Century. Do you feel like I do???? That's all right, good times, good times, good times. Good Times....
I was 18 years old in my college dorm room llookng out into the sunny day. I was tripping on acid with some of my best buds. ill never forget it. We laughed uncontrollably that day and learned some things that we thoght we'd never learn.stay in the flow ~~~~~~
This is a classic. I am so tired of people saying that nothing will match it and the new stuff is crap! I am over 50 and there is tons of new stuff that is great and will be a classic in 30 years! Listen to the music here, appreciate it but stop your jawing and enjoy the sound!
@Prayer4Pat you're absolutely right, i'm 49 and i love DEFTONES,AIC,GODSMACK, JANES ADDICTION and more new stuff! There is a future classic solo in the song 3 days, from Janes Addictions(Dave Navarro) that is SICK!!! ...AND PLEASE, EVERYBODY, LISTEN TOOL!!!
@Prayer4Pat - "is tons of new stuff that is great and will be a classic in 30 years".......Uh name one. If there is it sure as hell ain't being promoted because I've yet to hear it and I do look. Maybe Radiohead, White Stripes, Kasabian, but that's about it, I really can't think of anything else and even those groups ain't that much, barely passable to be considered "classics" in 30 years. Please don't mention Coldplay, they are absolutely god awful and I'm not couting albums from the 90s.
the best of the best of the 1970s, this song will always stand alone, no one will ever be able to capture the heart and soul of a generation as peter frampton did with this epic.
peter was and still is an innovator. HE PERFECTED THE VOICE BOX. god bless his greatness. may he live long and entertain millions. i know he already entertained me..... now excuse me while i spark up a joint, pass it around, sit back and appreciate:)

@roquefortfiles but how does this make him not a bro? i don't see your angle. he sounds like the guy in 'ain't no sunshine' by billy withers, look at the video and tell me this guy is not a bro
chickenman136 9 months ago
@chickenman136 ?? What?!! Your talking about the drummer? Google him!!
John Siomos. Doesn't look remotely bro ish to me. Looks like an Italian or Greek guy

why is this in 2 parts?
colegegrad 10 months ago
@colegegrad probably cause the song is more than 10 minutes and thats the max amount of time a youtube video can be, unless you pay

Ahh I love this man!!! I always wondered, does he say "pass that joint" through the talk box?? lol!

This is a classic. I am so tired of people saying that nothing will match it and the new stuff is crap! I am over 50 and there is tons of new stuff that is great and will be a classic in 30 years! Listen to the music here, appreciate it but stop your jawing and enjoy the sound!
Prayer4Pat 11 months ago
@Prayer4Pat you're absolutely right, i'm 49 and i love DEFTONES,AIC,GODSMACK, JANES ADDICTION and more new stuff! There is a future classic solo in the song 3 days, from Janes Addictions(Dave Navarro) that is SICK!!! ...AND PLEASE, EVERYBODY, LISTEN TOOL!!!
robcoqui 11 months ago
@Prayer4Pat - "is tons of new stuff that is great and will be a classic in 30 years".......Uh name one. If there is it sure as hell ain't being promoted because I've yet to hear it and I do look. Maybe Radiohead, White Stripes, Kasabian, but that's about it, I really can't think of anything else and even those groups ain't that much, barely passable to be considered "classics" in 30 years. Please don't mention Coldplay, they are absolutely god awful and I'm not couting albums from the 90s.
