Before the Irish became "rich" there was a sense of community that had long been dead in England, it was a place where people showed respect and had depth of character. By the time I returned in 2006, I left behind a society that had changed beyond all recognition. People instead worshipped consumerism & became self focused.

People took me at face value and bent over backwards to help my family in a new land. I remember walking through Cork city centre with my wife on a Friday night feeling completely safe. There was only danger if you looked for trouble which is fair enough. By the time I had left sadly it was getting as bad as England with a smug middle class & pompous faces.

D'Estaing is his name. And he was involved in putting together the Constitution Treaty. Most of the work on the Lisbon Treaty was carried out during the Irish Presidency of the EU. And I'm thrilled Lisbon went through ; bitterness is the furtherst emotion from my mind.

Your entitled to your opinion, even if your knowledge of EU law and policy seems somewhat sparse. I suppose, like Jim, just because you've read a few chunks of the Lisbon Treaty, you're qualified to give legal opinions on it. What a laugh.
Reality is that Lisbon will be ratified. And the scare stories produced by both Jim and yourself will never be realised.

Now that Europe has become one.....US is next on a big hit list. Be prepared.....stock upon food, I think usa will be nuked in the next 6 months or so. Who will? The EU is not a state and has no competences in this area. The Lisbon treaty specifically prevents it from interfereing in such areas so it can't. Ireland has banned the death penalty in its Constitution (Art 15.5.2) so it can't. This ban does not contravene ECHR.
