A very dangerous game is being played by both sides in this issue:

i) Mseveni is fighting Joseph Kony and his LRA who are based out of Northern Uganda (Acholiland; the Acholi speak and share a lot of the same ancestry as their Luo brothers of Western Kenya)

ii) The Luo in Kenya are a large part of Kibaki's rival, Raila Odinga's backing.

iii) When the mayhem broke out after the disputed 2007 elections, it is rumored that Kibaki was assisted to keep control in Western Kenya by Mseveni's UPDF.
