Its interesting that many enemy motives seems taken from UdSSR.

look at the background buildings at level 1, the robots or the first boss (here he is almost skipped)....

maybe some backwashes of the cold war can not only be found in old "james bond" movies, but also in video games...

Strider has to be the only ninja in existence to take on anything and everything. He fights robots, martial artists, scientists, dictators, dinosaurs, giant robot gorillas, jungle-dwelling amazon warrior chicks, mechanical centipedes with swords, pirates, the list goes on! This guy is unbelievable.

I still get weak in my legs just thinking about 02:24 . I used to play the arcade when I was a kid, and always died at the bombs. Even the airship was really heart pounding. ^^;;; Only the best game ever made in my living. ^^

The company that made this game owes me like 5000 quarters!! I played the shit out of this game where ever I could find it when it came out and I never beat it. It is still one of the best games of its time.

Me too, but this is the Sega Version which had a cooler ending than the Arcade version. In the Arcades, Stider rides on a hump back whale. Very random O_O

Does strider Hiryu count as a ninja?

He isn't stelthy as he rushes his opponents.

he has no ninjutsu.He Dosen't have a katana.

however, he swings his sword a inhuman speeds(he is the only guy ive ever seen that has that speed). he is fast for a human. he is dressed somewhat like a ninja. he can climb walls and celings.the decision is up for debate.

I think Strider is a super ninja in a future time setting and he is way advanced beyond ninja skills. As far as skills go, he doesn't really need stealth.. due to being faster and stronger plus wielding a powerful super fast air piercing sword. and being able to summon robots to aid him.

the striders are warriors of an secret agency who involves murders and many other thins, but they follow the code of the ninjas, Hiryu sword is a Cypher, a sword with a tonfa like handle with a razor edge that crates plasma, his body is in the limit of human training and to climb wall and celings he uses a hook

Oh yes, gotta love Strider. This was one of the first games introduced to Genesis that offered graphics of this magnitude. It was an arcade gem from my Jr. High days and still sticks out as awesome today. There will never be another game quite like this one.

The first home conversion (or port) of Strider that was arcade-quality, that was just about as good as the CPS1 arcade game was the X68000 version.

X68000 ( X68k for short) was a Japanese high performance computer.

X68000 Strider was MUCH better than the MegaDrive/Genesis Strider. It came out (in Japan) in the early 1990s, years before the PlayStation1 port that came with Strider 2, and years before arcade emulation was around.

Most of it's music had a Russian lilt to it. I guess It can be construed as happy, but I've always found it mildly upbeat to dreary. Think of Sting's song "Russians". Back to Strider, I've always found the final battle scene music especially chilling. Melodic yet dark. LOL
