I had the same problem with my sonoma, and it ended up being a loose injector wire. I was running on 3 cylinders! but i guess that probably only is applicable if you have a V6.
It is a common occurrence, at least on the 2.3L for these to do this and then randomly fix themselves. The issue seems to be with a worn and dying fuel pump. Unfortunately these fuel pumps also seem to die at the most random arse times too. Ex: I was driving my Mazda B2300 2.3L. Pulled into a gas station shut it down and tried to start it and it would not start. Dead fuel pump, was replaced and the erratic issue of not wanting to start has disappeared.
i had the same problem in my explorer 01, it happen to be old sparkplugs, bad oil and damaged throttle body. so yeah it was pretty neglected but not anymore.
Shows a battery icon when it stopped...maybe you need a new battery? My Aerostar needed a new battery, something about a bad voltage in the battery? That's what my buddy said.
Please shut up if you dont know anything bout motors.
Bad battery can prevent it from firing up even if it turns over if theres not enough juice in the battery to give a spark while its starting. Ofc doesnt apply to diesels, but many petrol cars have this issue, some more some less.
now your dumb. You do not get spark from the battery... I cant rember the part of hand but the battery does not give it spark. How do u bump start a stick car without a battery? no battery or a sht battery and it will still start. Why is that? where is the spark? seriously you need to be stupid somewhere else and quit acting like u know sht when u dont
@Grodinz o sorry i was a bit tired. Why dont u tell then smart guy? since your the god of cars... Tell me, without looking it up, which i will know if u do, What gives power to the spark plugs in a ford tritan v8? I might add that this isn't one of fords greatest ideas due to the issues it has been known to cause
My car did this too. Its a vacuum hose. I guarantee it. Notice how when the RPM's drop to where idle should be it gets rough and shakes, then stalls. Before you take it to a shop, check to be sure all your intake lines and vacuum hoses are connected.
mas air flow sensors, vacuum lines could be anything really. mine did this and costed about 1200 to fix. good ole classic vehicles dont need all that computer controlled crap
if its running with the foot petal then check out the vacuum manofold and see if any thing is popped off and check the little hex crew holding your idle on the throtal body
@UGSAce Try checking the Idle Air Control. It's supposed to open and allow air past the throttle body so the truck can idle. For some reason these seem to get stuck on Fords. Though they seem to get stuck open in most cases which causes the truck to idle high while out of gear... high as in 2000-3000RPMs.
Mine would stick but it wouldn't happen all the time. It only seemed to do it during certain times of the year.
@UGSAce we had this happen once, wouldnt start all day, so i had it towed to shop, then it started right up for them, and never happened again.lol i added some fuel injector cleaner after though.
good call man :), my dad used to race with that transmission, it's a wonderfully built auto trans. I cant play favorites though, Ford, Chrystler, GM there all really good companies with there good and bad points. everyone of them has made a good car and a bad car.
Hey, nice truck man. I love all the companies, but Ford made the gt-40, the mustang and the f-150, and those are my 3 favorite cars ever. nice truck Fords rule -first on race day. :D
I have a ford, the battery light was always on, changed the alternator fixed it. 99 dollars for a new one, send the old one back and get 25 dollars for it :D
i have the same exact truck and it is the idle control vavle malfunctioning i went and had mine tested and it came out the same promblem everywhere i went the prices can range from 50-100 dollars depending on the brand u but i would buy the more expensive works sooo much better now fires up first turn-over
I have an 02 ranger with the 4.0. its done this a few times too. It only happens like once a year though. The longest duration it wouldnt start was like 3 min. I dont know what tweaks out in the truck and i dont care until it becomes a permanent problem...
OK i did it, i took a video of me peeing on a battery of a rental car, ill upload the video soon, now ur go after u see it.,,then another video of me peeing on a car battery of my friends ford truck
here we go with the Ford v. Chevy...my dad is one of them Ford lovers...me? I don't care because I drive whatever runs and gets me from point A to point B in a safe fashion!
I agree, my ford taurus does this sometimes, but it will start and idle right at 500 rpm until i tap the gas pedal, then it kicks on up to 1500 like normal. It's under warranty, so when i get the time I plan to take it in. There's a temporary fix though, you can remove the IAV and lubricate the valve and that should keep it going for awhile.
my dads focus had the same problem so i turned up the idleing screw on the throttle and then when it fixed its self it idle really high so i turned it back down now it works fine
Could be the cold start sensor not setting the ECU to a cold starting state. Either get it repaired or just hold the gas in a little for a minute or two once it fires. Dont rev up and down, hold it steady.
my 99 explorer does that
