SO beautiful! Traditional Lab singing is already so powerful & usually "updated" folk music is truly awful, because the original seems perfect. but THIS is different. you have preserved most traditional elements & made no changes that interrupt the traditional elements, rather your changes enhance what is already beautiful about this music: the echo, the bitter twang, the ethereal reverberation - it's all so beautiful. thank you. i hope to hear more. let me know when you come out with a CD. :)

very nice. listening to your songs, it is easy to relate the albanian music of today (mostly from the north) to the folk music of our ancestors hundreds of years ago. thank you so much for sharing.
Well done MOE. This is defnitely not your typical lab song, it's even better and sounds divine. By the sound of your voice I'd say you're in your late 20's or mid-30's. In ten years you'll sound even better.
I don't know how to explain this but every time I listen to Lab music perpihem nga nje deshire a zjarrte tu shtyp koken nja 2 a 3 grekerve.
What do you mean by uneducate Paralogon? It seems that you are uneducated in English. Your comment is deficient geographically, historically and linguistically. It is high time for Greek people to move forward and out of the hole of primitivity and meaningless debates cloaked and fuelled by religious ignorance. Best regards.
In an attempt to claim the pure Dorian scale, they are developing a repertoir that is based on Dorian traditions, but is badly made!... or professionally made, but not original.
Sort of like Shwarma and Souvlaki.... What is a Souvlaki?
Just a badly made Shqarma... well, let's give it a new name and call it Greek ;)
What is Ipirotika? Badly made Albanian music, sang in Greek.
Some songs are just pure Albanian, remade... like Mperati, Argyrokastriko, and some of the Miroloi that are purely instrumental and therefore, they can easily say it is Greek as well. But also songs like... Vunosparmeni Ipiros (originally called U kendojme Trimave) of which I have a recording of 1950s posted up.
Some others of Petrolouka and Siatras are pure notes with no base! You might be a musician and you might understand, but if not, a base is a phrase that starts, says something by creating a mood, and ends at the same tonality. Also, it is well "tied"... compact like a piece of dough in the right softness/hardness. Petrolouka instead, is all over the place... and when he is in place, something else goes wrong, the tune is too modern to be called ancient Hellenic.
Guess why.. because Albania has exhausted everything. There's nothing new in those five notes that can be done, and there's nothing that Vlahs or Greeks, or Albanians themselves do that is unheard of as a melody!
For Greeks yes... they have an orgasm when they hear Albanian music. So do the Vlahs, but Vlahs we consider them our own kind, and so do they consider Albanians.
Vllahs in Albania are humble and real people that don't lie like the southern neighbours... so they are welcome to sing our songs in their language. We're happy t share our last piece of bread (which we have done for centuries now) with them and that's why you have Arvanitovlahs (lemme know if you wanna know some here on youtube).
Is there a priest in the front row of the public? You bet!
They are his lyrics, with many hidden meanings.
While the look on the lady's face is telling me that she is worried... tense, and not singing with her heart, but reading from the paper. While the dancers are not moving naturally. Are they really from Droviani, or just Greek figurants moving to a simple dance sequence of steps?
An old Albanian song from Pogoni called "Birbil kur kendon qysh thua?".
(obviously the syllables will not match)
Watch "Den baba Den" and tell me, however ugly and skinny those boys may be, does it come naturally to them? Are they dancing something much more complicated? Something, not known yet to the Greek public... but soon to be. Resembling the Tsamiko but called Devolliçe.
Here they are singing in unison, in Greek, but in pentatonic. 35 years ago they had already started, but I have recordings of early 50's and they sound like an emergency alarm, singing in oriental scale with 2-3 sequential semitones (the Asia Minor scales).
O kolaq po mos kendo vetem o! Prit te vij une nga Tepelena, gjejme edhe ndonje vlorak nga Vlora, marrim edhe nonje sarandiot edhe bejme nje grup edhe e quajme "Grupi vorioepiriot" edhe do na veje kenga si vaj, te thote vellai ty!

OK, then what about the Klarina music for Epirus travelogue being the same tune as "Two Little Birds"? Is there cultural appropriation going on.

Ironic if Orthodox Church were to be involved, the Church destroyed most of Classical Greek culture, traditions and mysteries.
IanHunedoara8 4 years ago
That's exactly what that means.
In an attempt to claim the pure Dorian scale, they are developing a repertoir that is based on Dorian traditions, but is badly made!... or professionally made, but not original.

The Orthodox Church is calling Gerogian and Kurdish dances Hellenic for God's sake!
They are propagating/comercializing the Hellenic culture the VERY wrong way.
All of a sudden the Tsakonikos looks like an Armenian dance??
What do these cultures have in common? Byzantine history!
All cultures from all the parts of ex-Byzantium, are imported in Greece, reconstructed, polished, and sold to us a Ancient Hellenic culture!
Now Horon is called Pyrrihios?? What is Rugova Dance called then?

Follow this link and then tell me: watch?v=E71DrFMkkqQ
Where does Droviani, an extremely poor village, find the funds to produce equal costumes for one concert?
Where do the people find the time to organize such a choreographed scene, while they strive going by their daily lives in the remote areas of Albania?
Why is the lady holding a piece of paper in her hand?

If you heard Petrolouka then you will see that Polyphonic is an Epiroite tradition not particular to one group.
IanHunedoara8 4 years ago
Petroloukas as I have said many times is sponsored by the Orthodox Church to study and produce for further claims over Albanian Folklore.
If you were to ask a polyphonic singer, he performs his parts wrong (there are 4-5 parts in Polyphonic songs).
However, Greek immigrants in Dropuli sing the Albanian way today, while 40 years ago they sand in unison and in a 7 note scale.
So do the Vlahs of Albania, sing the Albanian way.
MusicOfEpirus 4 years ago
