  • 10 min per day or rehersals ....and she wants to be the primadonna of the world! ahahahahahha anyway, belcanto is not for her

  • @mariandevadas

If you're gonna act like you know about music/singing, you should at least learn the music periods. Puccini is not bel canto.

  • @primohomme aham ....and you know....of course puccini is not bel canto. but you must admit she is not so good not in verism not in belcanto too :( she sings good and she is beautiful and this is all...i said sing not interpret!

  • se ahoga!!! hay que bajar de peso!

  • Wow.

  • Beautiful Anna .She sops at Saks fifth ave.in N.Y and San Francisco. A beautiful singer.SHE IS A FIRE.

  • Her career is the perfect example of why waiting until the voice is completely ready before it hits stardom. To me, her beauty outweighed the vocal maturity required for this caliber of singing. Not saying that she didn't have the talent; it just was pushed to the forefront too soon. She has been singing glorious lately. We can't expect these 21-30 year olds to give all the emotion and feeling that many have yet to experience and understand! Yet we wonder why what happened to the glory days.

  • she's a beauty

  • i love you Anna!

  • now that her voice has reached a more mature state, she can sing Cio cio san way better than before, love you Anna, hope to see you live one day.

  • See, this is the kind of song she needs to sing. She is not Juliette (unfortunately I found that out the hard way). She is Cio-Cio San. She would be great in The Bartered Bride. So... wow. That was glorious. I don't care what anyone else has to say about her.

  • @melloyellophone Exactly!

  • I saw this in a movie theater. Pure magic!

  • love netrebko!

  • sie ist super!!

  • Her voice and tone in this song is GLORIOUS. Time has really worked in her favor at this point in her life. Her voice is like hot caramel.

  • I think all you opera geeks are so wrapped up in your so called expertise that you miss the point. It's great music sung by a great singer. Get your heads out of your asses!!!!

  • shit, when did she get fat!?

  • @capitanzach God help us... if Netrebko is fat, what did that make Caballé?

  • @LaGiustizia12 She made opera sexy for me... but child birth does terrible things to a woman's body...

  • go to: Montserrat Caballe "Un bel di vedremo" Madama Butterfly

  • Caballe's Un bel di is amazing, the way it should be sung. Listen and educate yourselves.

  • That's exactly what I said, this role would never sound good with a girlish voice, it is Puccini for god's sake. The orchestra is huge. There are very few roles that would sound good with a girlish voice, so there are very few girlish voices in opera, duh. That's why I said that's not what I am after.

  • Anna Netrebko substituted vocal beauty for vocal power. She consistently brings just the right touch of drama to her interpretations. The event should have sold out.

  • @piax00

You are being ridiculous, she is 40 and her voice has grown richer

    That's all.

  • @primohomme i think it is an ugly voice, not rich. It has lost a sweet and brilliant layer on top of a darker layer that she used to have. Now all she has is the latter sound. This is not an enrichment, it is a loss. This aria starts at a high note, and this quality is not there. Many sopranos switch to a mezzo repertoire when they grow older, only because they lose stamina for the top notes, it does not mean they lose the brilliance in their voice. This is just a dull mezzo sound.

  • @piax00

I imagine you must be the kind of person who thinks sopranos must sound high and girlish, and that listens to opera only for the high E-flat at the end of the aria.

Sorry but no, Anna still has a full voiced high D even now that that she turned 40 and she abandoned the high soprano roles such as Lucia and Elvira, and moved to roles needing a strong middle and lower register such as Anna Bolena (in that role she sings from low B-flat to high D).

  • @primohomme Actually I love mezzo voices, even alto voices. I appreciate Jessie Norman, Viveca Ganaux, and the old mezzos. And there are few soprano roles that sound good with a girlish voice, esp this one, so that's not what I'm after. And full voice does not mean 'beautiful voice'. Netrebko has never had an exceptionally beautiful voice, compared to other sopranos, but she did have those brilliant sounds in the past. This rendition of un bel di just doesn't have a good sound.

  • @piax00

The role of Madame Butterfly was written to be sung by a spinto soprano, not by a "girlish" voice. The "girlish" voice is only of use in the entrance scene in which Cio Cio is a young girl and sings a high D-flat, but throughout the rest of the story her voice is that of a mature woman. That's why the greatest Butterfly sopranos in the 20th century were Callas and Renata Tebaldi.

  • @primohomme That's what I said -- this role would not sound good with a 'girlish voice,' as you like to put it. It is from an opera by Puccini, for god's sake. There are few roles that would sound good with a girlish voice, so there are few 'girlish voices' in opera, duh. Maybe in comic opera. I said that is not what I was looking for. This is not a good aria for Netrebko. Her voice is not rich or strong or poignant enough for it.

  • @primohomme my asking if she became a mezzo was tongue-in-cheek

  • what an ugly voice. what happened?

  • Brava

  • We're talking about the great sopranos in these generation my dear friends, and I tell you that Anna Netrebko is one of the great sopranos, in line with Angela Ghiorgiu, Natalie Dessay, and many more...

  • Wonderful!

  • Hallo - of course Maria is dead - and Renata Tebaldi - and many great singers as well. But why should we admire everything without distinction, without any critics ?

Are we not allowed to express our feelings ? Are we not allowed to say "NO" this was not good ? I am sorry - but ........

  • @amonasro100 The Empress is not wearing any clothes and the people think that it is her voice that they like. LOL

  • Look I must be amingst the greatest fans of Anna out there - like I waited 7 hours to get her signature - but I don't like this very much.I have to admit. I am not going to argue about who sang it best because all the usual names will come up. Basically you pick what you like and enjoy it. I find it weird that people would say Viva Callas ..she is dead! You can't go see her. So I guess you can listen to the LP's God forbid the downloads and imagine you were old enough to have heard her...

  • ma stiamo scherzando ? lei come fa a cantare butterfly ...

  • This is the singing of Chio-Chio Sun older sister.

Viva Renata TEbaldi, Viva Maria Callas

  • @amonasro100 - Estoy de acuerdo, Vivan RENATA TEBALDI Y MARIA CALLAS, DOS AUTÉNTICOS MONSTRUOS SAGRADOS, Otras cantantes que , para mi, interpretaron este personaje a la perfección, fueron : VICTORIA DE LOS ANGELES , MIRELLA FRENI y RENATA SCOTTO, ¡¡¡¡ CUANTO SE LAS ECHA DE MENOS, EN ESTOS TIEMPOS DE CRISIS DE CANTANTES !!!

  • @Maripudelmonaco

  • @BenjaminWagnerFan - FÍJATE QUE ESTOY DE ACUERDO EN QUE ES MÁS AGRADABLE VER EN ESCENA A UNA PERSONA CON BUENA PRESENCIA, PERO LO MÁS IMPORTANTE ES LA VOZ Y NO UNA MISS O UNA MODELO, PARA ESO HAY OTROS ESCENARIOS, Y YA PUEDES DECIRME TODAS LAS NECEDADES , POR NO DECIR OTRA PALABRA MÁS FUERTE, PORQUE TENGO EDUCACIÓN, QUE SE TE PASEN POR LA CABEZA YA QUE ACABO MIS DIATRIBAS CONTIGO, HE PERDIDO DEMASIADO TIEMPO.....

  • love netrebko!! beautiful face, beautiful voice.

CIAO.

  • the best forever <3

  • WOW! She impressed me so much! I love her Mimi and Anna Bolena (I won't compare to Callas, whom I worship, because it's not the point of this video). She is getting so much better than before. The only comment I have to make is about this dress of hers and this hairstyle: they're definitely unflattering, and it's a shame. She's gained weight, but she is a beautiful woman and should dress in a flattering way rather than obviously choosing a dress that's too small for her and this hairstyle...

  • Brava!

  • Maravillosa como siempre!

  • Fabulous .. so fabulous...

  • Bellissima donna ! E di più canta !

    Che sorpresa...bravaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa!...

  • What about comparing Anna and Angela, I have listened to her Adriana Lecouvreur last year and her voice was not small at all, my sitting was very far and high from stage but I listened very well. Angela has got a very different career, but I think they are not SO different, despite how many roles could they sing: they have both a "darker" voice than other sopranos, not big agility, they are perfect in Puccini roles and they are very moving in singing. According to me, Anna wronged her repertoir

  • Let´s be honest about Anna Netrebko. She has peaked as a woman in terms of looks and will never rise to any real heights vocally. She looked tense even before she started her performance - for good reason. Un Bel Di Vedremo reveals Anna´s comparatively small voice which also lacks in vibrancy and power. High notes? There just aren´t any. This was just down right dreadful and she killed it quite literally.

Compared to Angela Gheorghiu Anna is a dwarf - Alberich?

  • @MrHumanalltoohuman

whaaaaaaaat? LMAO, Gheorghiu's voice is a dwarf. Gheorghiu's voice in color and range is a spinto soprano, but in volume it's a light-lyric voice at best, she has even requested they use microphones for her "Carmen" at the MET, and when they didn't give into her whim she cancelled (as she has been doing for a while).

And Anna just had a HUGE triumph with her Anna Bolena, has Gheorghiu triumphed in ANY bel canto role, let alone one of the most difficult ones?

  • @primohomme

Your opinon about Angela Gheorghiu notwithstanding - Anna N. is not a great soprano nor will she go down in history as one of the true greats. On that score I think we can agree...

  • @MrHumanalltoohuman

If you compare her to Maria Callas, yes, perhaps she will never achieve that level

If you compare her to Gheorghiu, she has already surpassed her, both as an artist and when it comes to getting respect from the opera world.

  • @primohomme

I never said Angela was one of the true greats, but I hold her as a better soprano compared to Anna N.

You seem to be a gonner for Maria Callas and in her heyday she really was great - i give you that. But the comparison with Anna N?! In all sincerity, could you even envisage Anna N sing "In questa reggia"? At least Angela tried:) Speaking of true greats: Listen to Birgit Nilssons rendition of Turandot - she even dwarfs the mighty Callas.

  • @MrHumanalltoohuman

To be a great does not mean having the loudest voice, but being the better artist and singer

  • @primohomme

I'll refrain from commenting on your last statement out of courtesy...

  • @MrHumanalltoohuman

Anna IS a better overall singer than Angela, that is specially displayed now by her huge triumph in Anna Bolena, a role way more difficult than anything Angela has sung.

  • @primohomme I think Georghiu is a better musician, but they are pretty much in the same league, I think, although Netrebko has a clearer sound, perhaps bigger voice. Callas is about ten leagues above both -- in musicianship, agility, artistry and interpretation.

  • @MrHumanalltoohuman All this talk about how amazing Netrebko was in Anna Bolena - overlooking the fact that Elena Garanca was so much vocally richer and polished with more dynamism in her voice and interpretation than Netrebko. And for a mezzo soprano to sound better and clearer than a soprano in the same opera -- this is not usual nor desirable at all. Netrebko is not bad but hers is not the bar to be basing great performances on.

  • @primohomme And BTW I saw Georghiu in Faust recently at Covent Garden. The production pretty good, Rene Pape's Mephistofeles was fantastic and Vittorio Grigolo was a very good Faust (not on Kaufmann's level of course but still good) but Georghiu's Marguerite was pathetic. No voice left at all. The mere idea that she can think of comparing herself to Callas with that ludicrous homage is ludicrous..

  • Bravo for message !

  • @MrHumanalltoohuman You must be joking!!! Georghiu live has quite a small voice. Netrebko live has a HUGE VOICE I heard her many times. As far as looks are concerned it has nothing to do with their singing. Georghiu's voice is already on the decline. She has only been able sing light lyric roles. The one and only serious role she managed with any success was Traviata, and that was many years ago. In the last few years she manages less and less. She couldn't do Bolena in a million years.

  • @Ariadne7710

You know, I got to listen to Gheorghiu's "Hommage to Callas" album

And it was dreadful, struggling to reach top notes, off pitch notes here and there

Just really not up to level, I'm offended she used Callas' name to try to sell that crap

  • @primohomme I listened to about 30 seconds of Georghiu's so called "Homage to Callas" It was more of an insult to Callas. Appalling quality singing in every way. Struggling to reach top notes, off pitch, inability to hold long notes She used Callas's name to try and sell her CD. A shameful gimmick to try and sell some very inferior work which would most probably not sell any other way. Have you ever listened to her Casta Diva!!! It is a joke. Nothing to do with the way it should be sang.

  • @MrHumanalltoohuman Perhaps Netrebko had sung this aria when she was younger? That might have sounded better. I heard Georghiu's un bel di from years ago. It was not bad, and seems better than this performance of Netrebko. I am not a great fan of either of the two. Netrebko has blind fans, though, so ...

  • Love her!!!!!!!!

  • Reminds me of Mirella Freni in a way :)

  • Callas > Netrebko

  • Great performens! Well done! Beautiful sound in this not lyric aria! Well done! And very beautiful dress, yellow colour is your!

  • Happy Birthday To Anna Netrebko

It is on this lovely day that I wish to pass on my most sincere and greatest desires for Anna Netrebko to have the most joyous of birthdays with all those who are near and dear to her. My hopes being that she spend this day in the bliss of the company of those she loves and that she may enjoy the riches of life along with all it has to offer.

  • @humangeorge

Lets just say certain persons disagree with you, and they are not influenced by PR + bold publicity.

You could say that Callas was the beneficiary of bold PR and huge publicity. All the publicity in the world

goes no where with opera audiences, if wasted on a mediocre soprano.

  • Why all these arguments? She will be singing Traviata in Covent Garden in January. Tickets are all long gone! I will be there! Viva Anna!

  • @humangeorge

If you mean that woman Anahit Mekhitarian, you are seriously deluded

She has a pretty lyric soprano voice, but it's dime a dozen

Certainly not the kind of rich solid middle voice needed to sing Norma

And her inability to perform the accents on the long held high A in "Casta Diva" shows her technical inferiority.

Netrebko's technique is not perfect, but neither is that woman you are trying to promote.

  • SUPER!

  • @humangeorge

You seem to simply dislike her because you think she is just famous and successful due to her looks and heavy publicity, but I ask you...who has a more solid voice than her at the moment?

  • @primohomme A lot of it is based on opinion and little else. I do agree that she is a great singer but since you did ask; I believe Angela Gheorghiu has a more solid voice but then again. This just my opinion which one can take as seriously as one wishes to.

  • @humangeorge

She is not a mediocre soprano, she has a solid voice in the middle and good top notes

Her coloratura is not perfect, and she knows that, and she keeps working at it

She also keeps working on her top notes.

She was a woman of humble means, working as a cleaning lady to pay for her voice lessons

She did not become a star over night. Inform yourself before making such ignorant statements.

  • @humangeorge BASTA CON QUESTA CALLAS...LA METTETE SEMPRE IN MEZZO...IN OGNI COMMENTO, OGNI VOLTA CHE SI ASCOLTA QUALCUN'ALTRA....ERA BRAVISSIMA, PER CARITA', E RISPETTO TUTTI I SUOI FANS....MA LA BELLEZZA DELLA VOCE DELLA NETREBKO ...LEI SE LA SOGNAVA!!!!! CON QUEL TIMBRO TROPPO METALLICO E FASTIDIOSO NEL REGISTRO ALTO E OPACO E GUTTURALE IN QUELLO BASSO....OTTIMA INTERPRETE, PER CARITA'...HA RIVOLUZIONATO IL MODO DI FARE LIRICA....ERA UNICA, MA BASTA CONSIDERARLA COME LA MIGLIORE IN ASSOLUTO!!!

  • Comment removed

  • @domi2020 : I am the greatest fan of Maria Callas. I saw her in Paris and London and even worked with her on a charity project. There are good sopranos, brilliant sopranos and Maria Callas. I have also seen Netrebko several times and I was at that concert in Berlin and I cannot let you say she is a mediocre soprano. I was very impressed to discover she was singing Butterfly, Trovatore, etc. I only knew her Manon, Micaela, Traviata. She is a great singer and has a lot of charisma.

  • @Tusson07 SONO D'ACCORDO CON TE!!!!

  • Prima Donna!! Casta Diva!!

  • @humangeorgeGet off your high horse ...Netrebko is a good soprano. At least she has a solid technique and doesnt wobble like a cockatoo. I am merely comparison looks and not voice.

  • Divino!!

  • wow this is great- she looks like a young Maria Callas. Is it me or did dhe put on some weight?

  • @domi2020

She gained weight after her pregnancy, like 30 lbs or more. But I think she did so intentionally as.she was criticized for being too beautiful instead of a great singer.

  • @primohomme Really...interesting. I dont think she needs to pay heed to criticism - Netrebko sings beautiful even if she was 100 or 300 lbs! I like her slimmer. :)

  • Very beautiful. Her voice, acting ability, charisma are out of this world!

Thank you very much for posting this.

  • Love the dress

  • Beautiful!

  • Love her! :D Thanks for posting this!

  • Brilliant presentation !!!

    I love her !

  • Damn at this quality. Love it!

  • @BZBlaner

Yeah, I downloaded the whole recital in HD DVD quality

    Great recital :P

  • @primohomme Thanks a lot for your posting this gem of Anna.

  • She is amazing. can you go into your upper register and sound like that :). Because there are some guys i know who can sound exactly like a girl and sing like that even though It is probably just the way their falsetto is I think it just sounds cool.
