Great to see the Ohio Express persevering in spite of the personnel changes. Down At Lulu's was a mid-1968 hit single and truly one of the best records of that year. And that's saying a lot.
when I was a teen one of my favorite groups was the ohio express and anything else gummy, catchy and sunshine pop, while most of my friends were into bands like led zep, santana, janis joplin etc.I used to get kidded about it but I didn't care. and I still listen to this today and it still sounds great!!
Thanks for the video- great music! I don't know why people find a need to put a name like "bubblegum" on music like this. This is just fun music with a great beat! Keep rockin'! Ron
That gentleman is Tim Corwin, of Sir Timothy & The Royals, the band re-named The Ohio Express. Tim was the original drummer for The Ohio Express, and the man that has kept the band playing for about 40 years. Dean Kastran did lead vocals on the road and Mr. Levine recorded vocals in the studio. Most of the vocals on the radio, etc. were of Joey's voice. There was the studio Ohio Express and the band that was bustin' butt on the road. The real Ohio Express.
What ever happened to Dean Kastran and Doug Grassel? Even though Dean didn't sing lead, I see him posing as lead for Yummy, Yummy on the original videos.
Thanks. And if I do say so myself (and I'm not the only one who does), I think the current version, consisting of Tim Corwin on lead vocal and percussion, Guy Hoffman on bass, David Haag on drums, Jeff Burgess on keys and yours truly on guitar is the best Ohio Express ever.
Does "yours truly" have a name he give out, while dropping everyone elses??I think the line-up sounds great and I am very glad you guys are still rocking it sticky sweet!!!
@nunyafbizniz That Guy Hoffman fellow is a Rock and Roll Machine. I just caught the Ohio Express a few weeks ago by pure chance at a local bar while on a first date with my now rock solid girlfriend and we were totally digging that dude. Do you know anything else about him?
I have always loved bubblegum and you were the tops..when i was in a rock band back in the late 60s they use to make fun of me for liking bubblegum and i just said to them ...hey a good song is a good song it does not have to always be just hard rock :o)
One of the most under-rated bands in the music industry, IMO.

Wasn't the lead singer Joey Levine? This guy looks like Bill Murry.

Mr. Kastran is alive and well in his hometown. Grassell is in Europe playing.

Thanks. I'm the guitarist for Ohio Express (current version), and I'm always happy to hear that someone enjoys our music.
By the way, that's not me on guitar in the video. It's Mark Norris, who's worked with Tim off and on for many years.
