@doctorwhofan400 People did record Prisoner when it was first aired here, I certainly did. Prisoner was never shown on UK Gold. ITV never cancelled it, a small number of the regional stations didnt show it until the very end but the majority of the ITV regions did. Central TV repeated the show but pulled it after appprox 90 episodes. Channel 5 never cancelled it, it was shown fully.
This makes me cringe..I am so glad i would have been too young in 1991 to go, not that i would for ANY programme however much i liked it..I am a fan of Prisoner, but those two female fans were SAD. I am surprised a load of drag queens weren't there aswell.
the 1 thing i dont get is its already been showed if everyone wnted there show to re broadcast then what a mess television wud be the fact that it ent shown on tv no more makes it a good memory so let the memory live instead of protesting just buy the box sets on amazon
does anyone out there know of anyone selling copies of the oz 4 disc box sets. theyre sooo expensive to buy, around £25 each on amazon, im upto episode 192. so i need from 193 onwards.would be willing to pay £10 for 4 discs (copies done on a laptop).
Living in Birmingham from 1984 to 1995 (where Central TV broadcast the show three times a week (Saturday, Sunday and Monday)), I had the good fortune to happen upon the first episode in 1987 just before it started. I then watched every single episode bar two (I can't remember why not). Me and other people I knew then became totally enthralled with the series. Thanks for posting this Jiggarypokery!
God that woman at 0:47 looks slightly unhinged here. As someone said in a comment below, it could almost be a Victoria Wood sketch, if it wasn't so sincere. She really meant all that. I hope she managed to get over it OK!
I never missed an episode of Prisoner from the pilot to the series final...
However, when I see people protesting outside a TV studio over the program being pulled nearly 10 years after the final episode went to air - for some strange reason the words "GET A LIFE" spring to mind...
I went to see the Central studios in Birmingham (in March 2006) with a group of people, as I am a Crossroads fan as well. :)
The lady who said that she didn't know what to do without Bea, Doreen, Lizzie and Rita as they were her mates and that Prisoner gave her life meaning, from memory, was called Lisa Blair as one or a few of the people on the Prisoner Cell Block H message boards sites were there on this video.
I'm also on the Prisoner message board sites as well. Dazza :)
Prisoner stopped showing on Channel 10 Australia in 1986. I remember watching it in Adelaide at that time wen I was a kid. Im surprised these people in the UK protested over there to get it back again and even more B smith there as well (how she looks like my mum lol)
Britain got a raw deal with Prisoner, a fan once said ITV were embarrised by its popularity and I have to agree. Even 5 who saved the show and brought it back for another repeat put it on at 4:30 in the morning! Well us blokkies on youtube have done thier job for em I guess
did they win theoir campaign in the end? i must say that woman who said the show gave her life meaning was a bit OTT! I rememebr watching it and enjoyed it but i wouldnt go that far!would be great to see it back on a cable channel nowadays even though its a bit dated
Kind of, Central did eventually start a rerun, but this was usually at the rate of only 1 episode per week and was eventually cancelled in 1995 after only around 100 episodes had been repeated.
it is very unlikely that prisoner cell block h will ever be repeated on uk tv ,after channel 5 ran it twice. The only hope of seeing all 692 episodes is to buy the hugh box set available in oz!!!!!!!!
Wow... I have never seen these news stories on my fave show ever, Prisoner, I live five mins away from where it was filmed, so if anyone wants photos of the site, just let me know... :)
My God, how long ago was this? Im thinking late 1980's? Ive loved cell block H for 11 years (since I was 15) and Im currently in the process of watching it through for the 2nd time, but that 1st woman was far too extreme, wasn't she? lol. I would love to meet some of the cast members though, actors as opposed to characters :)
Gimme a break. That lady who was interviewed first needs to get a life seriously. Fancy living every moment for PRISONER. A good show but she needs to get out more.
i love prisoner but thats just embarrassing, i imagine the first women the interviewd to have been rocking in her chair for the last ten years..until the dvds come out of course ha ha
Brilliant! Us fans are nutty for prissie! I want to see this show be re-air and be revised! I can't believe after so long and with revivals being so poplar that they have not even attempted to make new episodes! Ive even show it to friends born way after the show ended (including myself) and they love it! With Bad girls gone and Prison Break ending in the next few years, the climate is ripe for a PCBH comeback!
Not really. I expect they knew that the last episode was to be screened that night, otherwise there wouldn't've been the protest. That and I don't see any spoilers in the clip shown...
If i was a bit older at the time and lived in the central region, i would have well been at that protest. Nah, it was just where the guy said 'the very last moment of the very last episode' after they were all cheering. was he not referring to that scene as the last?
He was, but in retrospect nothing was shown that would have given away any vital plot points of the episode. Plus the clip was very fleeting anyway. :)
@jiggarypokery .. it didn't give anything away really.. all you can see is the women getting excited & throwing around some balls. how would anyone know beforehand what it would have all meant or what led up to it? :/
@MzCheeky75 You can clearly hear Rita Connors 'war cry' and see her at the end before the credits role. When this first went to air, I knew Rita wasn't dead halfway through the episode because I knew she hadnt sat in the garden and gave her 'war cry'. This has been discussed by fans many a time.

They didn't know that it had been off the air that long though I don't think.

No, I said "when the FINAL episode went to air"...
The program has been continually repeated ever since...
That is, up until they decided to pull it once and for all as shown in this video...

OMG! Thank God there are loads of other loonies who think like me. (even if the TV station spelled 'Pixie' 'Pixy'.
