First god let rest in peace burt reed alson known as Mooky from some whom new him personaly. he was very funy and out going. Also hello to Burt one of the trumpet player my sister boyfriend back them. I live two house down where they pratice at least three knights on Cornelia Street between bushwick ave and Evergreen ave. We also had a Salsa band and use to play in front of my home when the group took a break they use to watch us play. Go Ahead Crown hieghts they were great.
Ajax is still doing his thing, singing, dancing and playing his trumpet. I had the distinct opportunity to hear and talk to him at length last night. He still brings a highly entertaining, funk-d- fied good time. Catch him when he plays in NY, you'll have a great time.
I was dating Ray Reid during these days when they were at their height. He used to take me around with them..clubs, recording artists conventions..He was always polite,,No funny band or groupie business, Great fun and I miss those days. Years later I am in a surrounding suburb bored out of my mind and my kids can't fathom I rolled like that. Miss those days.
This group began in1970 as the Nuedeys from Boys High School Dennis Pendarvis John Randolph and Donnie Linton were the founders along with Ronnie Towns
Damn, these guys are even better than I'd imagined. They have TIGHT harmonies, they stay in tune when the sing, when they play, and when they STEP. My have times changed.
Disco Ball 9 WCBS FM DJ Joe Causi @ Trump Taj Mahal Casino Resort Atlantic City NJ on Saturday Oct 16, 2010. Starring live in concert, the greatest 70s disco show. You can still catch Ajax gigging out here in Brooklyn & sometimes Ray Reid & Morris Price at special parties. I see that Ajax was funny back then too, he's a funny brother. And don't y'all forget about "Leave The Kids Alone"!!! That & "Super Rod" were some funky jams when I was about 13. Too bad that RCA didn't know what to do with the brothers or Soul music in general! CHA & B.T. Express were certainly Brooklyn's finest!
@ goldspout, man, "Shake Your Body" was no joke back in 77.

I have Ray Rock's son in my class. He told that his father was in this group. I had to check out some songs to refresh my memory. I forgot how good real music sounds!
Brooklyn in the house. These boys can get down. They came with back to back to back hits. I'm a big time fan of them. Happy music. I'm from Queens NY but is all good! Hutch
Hi, I'm Eddie Cohen who joined the group Made in U.S.A. (originally 'Nexus') after Darryl and Tyrone left Crown Heights to join Nexus. Darryl became leader and alto sax player of the new band and Ty played trumpet and I played Tenor. What days those were.
Back in '73 I worked with Howie the kb player in a mailroom. He told me about CHA and played me tapes. I would later form my first band and cover CHA, and eventually had a minor disco hit "No, No, No My Friend..." #14 on the national disco charts. I'm a heavy metal singer now. lol! Long live CHA.
FINALLY! LIve footage of these guys! I got the Foxy Lady album a few years ago in a record store and side B was AWESOME!!! I wish there were some footage of them playing Na Na Hey Hey (if they did play it out).. .Awesome!
1harlemknight it is impossible for you to have went to school with Ajax as he is from Delaware! The others are from Brooklyn NY. Ajax is a good friend of mine and met these guys after they started taking Julius's place on trumpet. It's funny how Ajax always say's how guy's are talking to him about Crown Heights Affair saying they know Ajax and them not knowing they are talking to Ajax!!! I
Correction!! Ajax replaced Tyrone Cox who didthe Superod solo..and Julius never played tpt, he was a trombone player who slid over to vocals when Ray Reid came into the grp.
as others have said, FINALLY a version with the lyrics ! I bought a $ 20 CD with about 5 versions of D a D and none had lyrics, I was starting to think I imagined the singing. But I KNEW I loved how they sang 'when we used to lay, yay, yay, in the park, by the baaaaay'
top man been waiting a year on utube for this with words 30 years yes 30 years since down at r.e.o.b soul club anyone got it on vynil thanks moondogmayne

Oh Wow! this brings back the wonderful memory of visiting a girlfriend in Bklyn and running into the Crown Heights Afair at a Prospect Park concert and Ajax pointed at me and asked me to jam in with them on this set. A young 15 year olds dream come true to jam with these Greats. It was truly Dreaming a Dream come to life...
