I used to shank the ball a lot during games. I was watching a golf video, and a pro said he always feels like he is hitting the ball with the toe of the club. I went out the next day and tried to get the feeling of hitting the ball with the toe of the club, and I've never shanked it since. THE MOST TERRIFYING SHOT IN GOLF IS THE ONE DIRECTLY AFTER A SHANK SHOT.
@chriskeenan1 i am really shanking it at the mo, but i always feel like i got control when i bring my hands down the shaft, i know this is the wrong thing to do ;( but when i but my hands on the grip and take a shot, my ball as a one way ticket to the bushes. so are you saying aim the ball of the toe of the club?
@cobracrane The feeling I get is that I'm hitting it off the toe. Most people who shank shots, usually come over the top slighly at the top of the backswing/beginning of downswing (the transition). If you get the feeling that you want to impact the ball with the toe of the club, it usually corrects the over the top movement.
At the beginning of the downswing, try to get the feeling that you are going to hit it with the toe of the club. It works for me. No more shanking.
@cobracrane Also try standing a couple of inches further away from the ball at setup. Your hands should hang below your chin when you are set up to hit the ball. Hope this helps. If you need any further help please contact me. GOOD LUCK.
i hattttteeeeee shankkkssssssssssss....i am a single handicap golfer and i hit them, i could shoot a 73 one day, and an 80 the next because of this shot
ok heres my story i hit my drives perfect my irons are fine except the odd 1 or 2 and my wedges " were " great all of a sudden i have started shankin all my wedge shots and its fukin fustration becuase ave hit a great drive and am left with 50 to 70 yards to the green and a shank it haha its murder man someone help me :D
You may not be releasing your wedges through impact which can cause the hosel to make contact with the golf ball first. Try making sure the club releases nicely through impact and you should be fine.
I had vid lesson n it was all to do with my set up. Drills put 2 feet together and it makes u turn your shoulders try it on range changed to interlock grip (small hands). make sure your shoulders point square at target I was amazed I was aiming left of target causing out to in and heel of club (shank) hitting ball, feels weird at first right shoulder below left as well makes u more strike back of ball more control it`s great straight long drives and positive mental play. I will post a video
personally i think its bad advice, standing on your heels at setup actually causes you to stand closer to the ball. naturally you have to move your weight towards your toes to make flush contact during the swing to make any sort of divot so standing on your heals will only further promote a shank. BUT THATS JUST MY OPINION...
you can also just put a golfball or something outside the golf ball you are trying to hit so its about 1/2" from the toe of your club at address and swing until you dont hit the outside golfball or shoebox anymore.
Great tip!! for 5 years I have been battling the shanks from time to time and tried different hand positions to try and fix it. Never realized my weight was on the balls of my feet and not my heels!! 1st time back out was unbelieveable how my problem was fixed! So much more room for my hands to clear. Best tip I have ever received. Thank you!

I would say you shank because you come down too far from the inside with an open club face, don´t you think?
