  • I love to watch other styles of mugai ryu. Interesting to see the divergences from the main orthadox branch. Judging by the elongated, high cuts and the eishin ryu style noto, your style is based off of Shiokawa's line? I especially loved watching Goka Hazumi. Great self control on the instructor's part in maintaining his composure when he dropped his wakazashi on the floor! I probably would have died from embarrassment (or seppuku) on the spot!

  • @Uminchuu Yes, this is from the Meishi-ha which was established by Niina Gosoke who was under Shiokawa Soke. And I agree, Rivers Sensei did demonstrate excellent self control and focus - I think his wakizashi was just a bit loose in the koiguchi and it became dislodged as he was performing the kata. I've had similar things happen when rotating very quickly with a shoto that is a little loose. I enjoyed practicing under this line. However, I'm now doing Yagyu Shinkage Ryu Heiho.

  • dude that's incredible!!!

  • Thanks for showing I really enjoyed watching this.

  • Nice, but how come I don't see any kata of mugai ryu besides iaido.

  • @mikeymarshful Mugai Ryu is Iaido...and the practice is done through kata. Perhaps I don't understand the question...

  • @robertmrivers I mean its just all iaido? I heard they also do kenjutsu practice as well...

  • @mikeymarshful Kenjutsu; typically meaning practice with swords already drawn, is practiced in most koryu iaido styles... there is of course more to any martial art than what you see on the net Mugai Ryu, for example, has a set of 28 kumitachi (partnered kata) to include long sword and short sword. The reason you do not see them demonstrated on youtube is that it is not permitted by the headmaster. Just the basics is permitted. For anything else, you'll have to visit a dojo. Thanks for visiting.

  • @mikeymarshful Sooo... yes we also have a set of kenjutsu kata, its just not public information. Cheers.

  • @robertmrivers ah ok thanks for letting me know.
