Thanks for the videos, very very helpful. I just started and I am finding it very hard to find someone to teach me. So your my teacher now Michelle. :)
I find it hard to distuinguish what timing songs are in, is that something I should be worried about or will that come in time?
Any songs you would recommend to play along with for a beginner.
Thank you Michelle, my father had a bodhran sitting on the shelf for a number of years and i always wanted to have a go but never knew how so i got a dvd and started, the dvd was ok but only covered the basics, your seven day challenge has been great, i am now playing along with some great celtic tunes and having a ball, so again thank you and keep up the great work.
Thanks so much Michelle for all the great instruction. I recieved my first Bodhran a week ago, and now I've finished the 7 day challenge. Although I need a lot more practice, I'm having great fun playing along to several Irish reels and jigs. Thanks Again!
I just got a tunable bodhran last month. My previous music skills are helping me significantly (although little experience with drums). Your teaching method is so helpful, thank you! Your drum notation is very user friendly to me, very creative. I am having a hard time keeping track of the beat in the double click section (shown in day 3 of the challenge). I can't hear where the beats fall, so I loose the tempo and the groove. Any suggestions?
I really love your work, I have been a drummer for 50 years and played all types of music, heavy rock, modern jazz and Irish music being my special favourites so to treat myself for my 66th birthday I have bought a tuneable bodhran, it turned up today so it's a bit scratchy but your videos have been so helpful already, not easy to play but my drum experience is helping so I will let you know how i progress.
I am just beginning to work on this solo. I liked the musical notation once I figured out how to read it. I had not had much success in playing with the pitch changes and this video made all the difference. Thanks for doing these Michelle! This having fun playing and learning :-)
Michelle! Thank you so much for these videos! I've had such fun for the past week, following this seven day program. I got a bodhran for Christmas this year, and I had no one to show me how, and no books to teach me. I came to YouTube first. After watching a few others, I found yours and your website. Thank you, thank you, THANK YOU!!!! You've been so helpful. :)
been looking for bodhran tuition in London(without success) and came across your fab vids. am working my way thru the 7 days and having fun. I'm hoping for polkas and the dreaded hornpipe .........
Yippeeee! This is all starting to come together! I feel rhythm in my veins!! Mickey, I loved this lesson and can't wait for page 2. The notation is great and really helps me to follow what you're doing. Hungry for more!! ;-)
These vidoes are so great. I literally just got my Bodhran last night, and discovered your videos last night. I am so excited to start learning this instrument and I know that your videos will be a huge help. Thanks for all your hard work
great postings - thanks Michelle! haven't got the hand movements quite figured out yet but I'll keep working on it and continue to use your videos. I like the pdf file, that will be a good practice tool as well. :)
Excellent lesson Michelle. I like the written notation as well, but admit that I rely more on my ear to initially pick out a rhythm. Once I've done that though it's nice to be able to validate what I hear in writing. The use of the mirror is a major plus as well, much better than a backlight. Sad that this series is done. I'm sure it was a good bit of work for you. Looking forward to the next series - 30 Rhythms in 30 Days maybe...? :-) Keep up the great work - please!
Thanks for letting me know Jarda. Link problem should be fixed now. I had the post marked public, but accidentally left the link marked private. That's why I'm having someone else help redo my site. Gradually turning into a computer geek, but obviously not fast enough. lol
Let me know if you have any more problems with the link.
Hello Michelle, me again :D. I went to your page and tried to open the pdf file but it doesn't work or at least in my PC. It says something like "Sorry, no posts matched your criteria."
Great idea with the mirror. I can't read notes so I would be happy with arrow format anyway :)

Wow, you anticipated my next puzzle: detail of the back hand. Yes, of course, I love the mirror trick!
