I miss the Blue Lake atmosphere a lot sometimes. Not being a music major in a city hostile to classical music makes me fondly reminisce about 6 (summer session) to 11 (IYSO) hours of practice a day, making something worthwhile.

there are kids from like 13 and then there were alumni choir that were up to around 24ish i believe, I was 22 during this.

also the alumni part of the choir learned all 20some movements in just 2 2 hour rehearsals and one longer one the day before the performance.

Yeah, we still did Carmina, but with 2 pianos and a percussion section. It paled in comparison to us with the IYSO. However, in the performances after this one here, we had much better soloists, in my opinion.

we performed fairly decently, but in no way shape or form is it our best. the entire concert is on there. in eight videos. notice that the repretoir picked for the orchestra is played only in professional orchestras. also, the orchestra is the only group to actually have a PLAYING AUDITION to get into the group

Dude, I know! It absolutely shocked us when we found out that your guys' tour was cancelled. I remember a lot of kids had their jaws on the floor when Dr. Webb told us. You guys were awesome, and you certainly cheered me up when we just found out that our counselors were scapegoated. We owe you guys for that. The doc that hosed you guys is an idiot. The ICE kids are with you on that.

I'm a choir mom (Julia) but also was with the 1979 Blue Lake International Orchestra. It broke my heart when I heard that the orchestra's tour was cancelled. I just heard some more info. on some of the inside reasons and I am just heartsick but also fuming mad. I really think that the parents of both groups should file a civil suit against a certain person that I won't name...not connected in any way with Blue Lake's staff. I am SO glad that the orchestra will still perform in Ann Arbor.

The orchestra didn't get to go because some had gotten the flu. One turned out to be swine flu. And, since one person had gotten it, the rest of the orchestra had been exposed to it as well. It was on the news last week.

Excekkant Job! I was a parent sitting almost behind you Friday night. My son is in the choir. How disappointing for the orchestra they were not able to go. My heart breaks for those students in the ochestra who I am sure are very disappointed. Also to the choir who were looking forward to singing with this talent group of instrumentalists. Just know that Dr. Webb told me on Saturday that Friday's performance was the best they had all done. My battery died. thanks for taping. Lisa
