on all the DVD comments: You can learn from DVDs... if you've had about a year or so of lessons from a very good instructor. If you have a solid foundation you can learn from DVDs, but imo you've got to have someone who knows which muscles you need to move where when to show you before you can take off and learn stuff on your own.
Where did you learn to dance?? I am trying to learn from an Ashara DVD, but it really isnt helping me learn because there is no one to tell me that I look like a floundering monkey....just wondering where you learned because you are a beautiful dancer, and I want to be better, just not sure how to go about it

This dancer is quite good. I am in awe of the fact she is so fluid in her movements. I would love to learn how to do this. Perhaps it would help my back.
as a matter of fact it does, bellydancing is good for your back, because it strengthens your torso muscles; but take lessons!! you can damage your body with those DVDs!!

@brokenrebirth1 One of the most important things to learn about dancing and dancers is that you will never look like the next person. Which can be frustrating at times, I know it is for me. but it's important to become aware and accept :) I find it very hard to follow instructional videos because I never know if I'm doing it right because I don't look like whomever is teaching. I thought I was crap when ever I first started because I started with Rachel Brice DVD's, lol!
very fluid and snake like which I personally find beautiful. and for all of you who think she's easily jsut shaking her bum around, it takes QUITE a bit of muscle strength and control to shimmy all or certain parts of your bod while moving :P amazing cardio workout as its not always easy to breath when your undulating your ab muscles, chest muscles, or entire structure. i guess its easier if you're a heavy sort as your fat shakes easier, we thinner gals gotta work it more imo.
well you inspired me to be less restricting in my body motions.its hard for me to dance sometimes as i'm far too hard on myself as with a mentality of THIS is how it should look rather than just doing what my body does naturally and seeing someone else do what i do naturally eases my mind that i am my own worst critic and there is no right or wrong cause you look amazing when you dance :)

This rocks. I have trained in classical Egyptian cabaret and am branching into tribal fusion. I have a hip hop background as well. I just have to say that your video is FANTASTIC! This helped push me to take the plunge into tribal fusion. Tribal fusion dancers get a bad rap sometimes but what you do is beautiful! keep it up. You have truly inspired me to continue!
Whenever I read intolerant and elitist comments beneath Fusion Bellydance videos - especially when they are spouting that only Arabs should do this dance - I ask the question - Does the fact that Beethoven and Mozart were born in Europe mean that Chinese classical musicians or ballet dancers should not be allowed to perform? Answer No - grow up.
I thought it was wonderful, I would have like to have seen a snappier ending (but that is jmo). You did a really good job! For all the nay sayers--dancing is art and art is subjective to each person. I thought it was creative and quite enjoyable to watch, I would want to rip my eyes out if everyone did the same 2 count-kick-2 count-kick-turn, etc! When I dance it's a show, but it's also about feeling the music-which is interpreted by the artist performing. Keep up the good work :)

It's a new form of it, yes, and not traditional belly dance, however, it still IS fundamentally belly dance. At first I didn't enjoy the music, but then this funny image popped into my head that some bellydancing goddess comes to earth. She hears this song in a club and breaks into this dance. It doesn't matter what the music is, it's the expression of the dance through the music. You taught me this and I thank you!

I don't know if anyone mentioned this to you hun, but bellydance is strongly cultural. I don't know what this type of dance is, but it is not bellydance. I'm personally a fan of Fifi Abdou, who i discovered when i was 6, I'm arab and arabic is my 1st language so sorry if anything i say sounds weird. I'm sure you are a lovely person, but this is not bellydance, you have potential, but you lack experience and knowledge.
@OculariSxInfernuM Tribal Bellydance is NOT Arabic bellydance, though there are roots in traditional styles from Egypt, Turkey, and the rest of that part of the world.

It's not supposed to really look exactly like Cabaret or Arabic style, since a lot of dancers mix in hip hop and electronic music into it, like Sherri is doing. I think you should look it up also before telling someone that they lack experience and knowledge- she could have easily doen cabaret first, then moved onto Tibal Fusion, like Rachel brice

You are very good. The thing is I am from the Nagwa Fouad generation; the FIfi Abdou generation. You dance is beautiful do not get me wrong. Just a variation of what we were taught. I am curious has this been played in Egypt? And how was it received? I am VERY serious! I have dedicated my life to this.
What I mean to say is that by posting video of yourself and your art in a public forum, you are opening yourself up to being judged by the masses and while I'm certainly in support of people voicing their opinions even if they are expressing something unflattering about me or my dancing I won't condone intolerance.

Tribal Fusion is a mix between how we interpret what the nomadic (tribal) dancers would do (where they pick up all kinds of styles) and other styles of dance. She doesn't need a tribe.
And saschrack, the costume is typical of tribal fusion dancers, made of very vintage and antique looking pieces. Most of the moves are from cabaret style, just mixed up with an almost hip-hoppish 'pop and lock' accent or a ticking.
@marixacarrion i just know it is a remix of fuzati or something - he is kinda known around here - but i would not dance to it. the "text" is... er... very trashy
the best way to learn the basics of bellydance is to find a teacher that does traditional bellydacne that way they will show you all the moves the right and correct way and also the names of them cuz iv seen most teachers outside of traditional bellydance try to make up or chang the name of the move and it just messes dancers up. then when you master it you cud move on to tribal ats tribalfusion goth fusion ext there are alot of styles. what iv learned is the best have started with traditional
Tribal is considered earthy, tribal belly dance uses earth tones in colors on their outfits as well as when they dance barefoot their closer the mother nature. They're probably more reasons but to me this is the best answer.
A solo, is just when someone is dancing by them self. A troupe (group), not tribe is when they dance together, in my troupe its become a sisterhood, we cry, laugh, love and perform together as one.

It's a new form of it, yes, and not traditional belly dance, however, it still IS fundamentally belly dance. I think you're wonderful. I'm very surprised you're not with the Indigo. Yeah, maybe it's not completely arabic, but TECHNICALLY, you're makin that belly dance, therefore, this is belly dance. and tribal fusion, it's infused with everything, it's IMPROVISATION. At first I didn't enjoy the music, but then this funny image popped into my head that some bellydancing goddess comes to earth. She hears this song in a club and breaks into this dance. It doesn't matter what the music is, it's the expression of the dance through the music. You taught me this and I thank you!

I don't know if anyone mentioned this to you hun, but bellydance is strongly cultural. I don't know what this type of dance is, but it is not bellydance. I'm personally a fan of Fifi Abdou, who i discovered when i was 6, I'm arab and arabic is my 1st language so sorry if anything i say sounds weird. I'm sure you are a lovely person, but this is not bellydance, you have potential, but you lack experience and knowledge.

I think you'll see that I do. ^_^ And to OculariSxInfernuM: have you not noticed that everything, especially in the arts, evolves? EVERYONE is doing something different all the time. Sherri here has the knowledge AND experience to take something made by someone else and make it her own. In case you haven't noticed, even bellydance is just an adapted version of Romani dance. Perhaps YOU lack the knowledge.

@cherchezlafemmedance Sherri it seems to me that alot of people are really struggling to come to terms with the fact that trad/cabaret bellydance has evolved into this amazing strain.....I trained in cabaret for years and am now a dedicated tribal fusion dancer....like many girls. We all understand the reluctance of some old school to accept. Anyway, you are quite amazing in your transitions and poise. Very inspiring stuff indeed. You're gorgous!

@OculariSxInfernuM Goodness another Arab being judgemental!!!! Do you know that this lady is one of the BEST tribal dancers about. I have just had a go at an egyptian telling her that this is FUSION but is derived from traditional bellydance. It's how styles EVOLVE and how tradition is kept alive! "You lack experience & knowledge!!" Constuctive. Like I said to the other girl, do your damn research. Find out about tribal fusion. And please post a video of you dancing.

@OculariSxInfernuM Allow me to tell you that this style of Belly Dance is called Tribal Fusion Belly Dance, and it's an American form of belly dance. It's not supposed to really look exactly like Cabaret or Arabic style, since a lot of dancers mix in hip hop and electronic music into it, like Sherri is doing. I think you should look it up also before telling someone that they lack experience and knowledge- she could have easily doen cabaret first, then moved onto Tibal Fusion, like Rachel brice

This is indeed a new form of bellydance that is becoming increasingly popular. And I have to say that it is not this girl (really good dancer IMO) who lacks knowledge, but you. Tribal Fusion is a mix between how we interpret what the nomadic (tribal) dancers would do (where they pick up all kinds of styles) and other styles of dance. She doesn't need a tribe.
And saschrack, the costume is typical of tribal fusion dancers, made of very vintage and antique looking pieces. Most of the moves are from cabaret style, just mixed up with an almost hip-hoppish 'pop and lock' accent or a ticking.

the best way to learn the basics of bellydance is to find a teacher that does traditional bellydacne that way they will show you all the moves the right and correct way and also the names of them cuz iv seen most teachers outside of traditional bellydance try to make up or chang the name of the move and it just messes dancers up. then when you master it you cud move on to tribal ats tribalfusion goth fusion ext there are alot of styles. what iv learned is the best have started with traditional

Tribal is considered earthy, tribal belly dance uses earth tones in colors on their outfits as well as when they dance barefoot their closer the mother nature. They're probably more reasons but to me this is the best answer.
A solo, is just when someone is dancing by them self. A troupe (group), not tribe is when they dance together, in my troupe its become a sisterhood, we cry, laugh, love and perform together as one.
That's as much info I can give due the word count.
