Every so often an utterly unique human being emerges from the mass of us and, because they take a road less travelled, discover some special means for conveying what life has taught them without the use of language. They plug their heart into yours, and if you are open enough, you will hear their story. Toots Thielemans is one of those unique people. One of the greatest musicians who have ever lived.
At one point in an interview with Toots, a New York jazz critic mentioned this work with Solal as a great collaboration. The critic went on to say that Solal's musicianship had been vastly underrated and under-recognized. note: Thielemans and Solal made a CD during this period & it may still be available. It is fantastic!
@cccustard -- Have you noticed the great quote of "Artistry In Rhythm", Stan Kenton's theme? I can understand why he brought tears to your eyes. It's the joy, man, just joy!
