  • ahhh.... this made me cry...because i remember when i was a kid..me and my dad we used to Vs each other at this....simple..yet..Amazingly complex game..and now..my dad has passed...i can no longer enjoy the amazing gameplay of TA...nuff said :'(

  • which version of TA is this, because i have the first one and i don't some units that you're building. so please tell me

  • @Simon9819 It has the core contingency and battle tactics expansions, as well as the additional cavedog units that you can download for free. Check on TA Universe for more info.

  • This must be me vs. my dad, me being core :/

  • @jericoparazo Yeah, starcraft sucks XD

  • It looks like you own most of the map.

  • Downloading right now! Brilliant!

  • The soundtrack in the game will always be number 1!!

  • donde consigo este juego en quito ecuador¿?¿?¿?

  • Wow such memories i have coming back to me from hearing this music. Epic

  • haha 1:07 "NO, MY BUILDING SPOT"

  • Ah, I just started playing this again... isn't nearly as hard as I remembered it :)

  • @dattHoppi ya. I tried last year and i went pretty far in core campaign. But arm is probably the most troubling after you leave their homeplanet. I cant build fast enough! The cruisers keep catching me!

  • @MrColeknows I think the secret to winning in the Arm Campaign is plain turtling... I surround my base with two to three rows of missile towers ;)

  • haha i remember this, the very first time i played i didnt know that the commander explodes badly, so he went boom in the middle of my base and my whooole base went with him hahaha

  • to je tak nejuasnejsi hra na svete fakt :)

  • what recording program did you use? i cant find one that gets both sound and video :/

  • Wow! The music is really great. *thumbs up*

  • Atari dont own the rights to it. "Phantagram Ltd. (판타그램)" own the name. or did as of 2002.

  • @colony343 At one point, Infogrames owned the rights to TA and licensed the name to Phantagram in 2002 or 2003 to develop a new game under the name, but nothing ever came of that. The Infogrames retained the rights to the game and eventually passed it to Atari. That is where it stands right now, with Atari as the nameholder. This is why Chris Taylor had to approach Atari to attempt to get the rights to make Supcom part of the TA franchise, but was unable to do so.

  • A couple of posts just about the TA series and TA Online:

  • To play TA online i would recommend 2 programs:

WARZONE, which has allready been mentioned and its also the most popular at the moment. its based around the old MSN Game Zone.

    or

PHOENIX WORX, which isnt as popular but gives greater depth to the online universe by re-creating the Galatic war of 1998 take a look at their site and youll see what i mean.

  • SupCom (Supreme Commander) is NOT the next in the series after TA, in fact TA and SupCom are unrelated save for sharing a few developers and SupCom being touted as TA's spiritual successor. The TA IP is owned (now) by a Korean company who are releasing an OFFICIAL TA 2 at the Korean Games Expo in august THIS YEAR. Information translated off their page reveals they plan to release it in english in 2012.

  • @colony343 Supreme Commander is the spiritual sequel to Total Annihilation. The main developer, Chris Taylor, was behind both games and a lot of the development team remained the same. The storylines may be different, but the gameplay is nearly identical, so Supcom is TA2 in nearly every way but the name. The only reason it isn't named TA2 is that the publisher retained the rights to the name after Cavedog was shut down. GPG couldn't get the rights, so they used a different name.

  • @colony343 To add to what I said, Atari owns the rights to the game (through purchasing Infograms who purchased GTI), and they have no plans to release a sequel anytime soon. Even if someone decided to release a TA sequel, I wouldn't trust it unless it was Chris Taylor and the team who developed it, and considering the direction they took with Supcom 2 (which was disappointing), I'm not sure I'd trust them either. :D

  • @SylvesterInk I'd still trust Chris Taylor and GPG. I think the problem with SupCom 2's "failure" can be attributed to Square Enix. They did develop that game in partnership. Just look at the character designs. They could have incorporated Final Fantasy-like designs and CGI cutscenes, but didn't. Re: gameplay, GPG had great ideas, but didn't execute them well. Plus the fact that they removed some mechanics of the original. But yeah, I'd go with Chris rather some Korean developer.

  • @gmdimaano Yeah, that is true. I'm not too crazy about what I've seen of Kings and Castles so far, as it seems to be using a lot of the SupCom 2 mechanics, but as always, I'll just have to see how the game is when it's released. For now, SupCom:FA and TA remain my mainstays.

  • @colony343 I realise you're probably not going to be able to, but can you message me with more information? I would happily pay with my testicles for another TA.

  • To all u plp who want to play Total Annihilation Online just google up --- d gun --- in the internet and where it says "installation u click there and it takes u to the download page. "its an all in one small file that has everything to play TA online...

  • @ noclipgmoder

    Yeah your right

    i'v got this game

    and it looks like it

like the way you build and stuff like that

    and their all robots

Ps this is the best rts ever

  • "(And maybe even draw you away from an inferior Blizzard RTS . . .)" i agree :)

  • if you guys notice o nthe supreme commander case it say total annihlation:supreme commander

P.S guys this is total annihlation 1

  • it was asome but not like games to day its he killed my bro or i killed his bro no it was just kick rthe other dudes ass as hand as possible

  • Why D-gun the Core metal extractors, only to build your own? Capture them for free!

  • Well duh, cause explosions are cool! :D

  • Maby because its looks kinda awsume :D

  • yeah, because the graphics are really impressive.. must be why people are still playing it in 2009

  • @briananthonyronald why even build basic extractors build energy producers and then get moho mines

  • @hopeyoulikehyper Rather assumes you have anything to build with. Additionally, the sort of late-game infrastructure you speak of is expensive to build, and too easy to rely upon. It must be backed up with level one production, which must be distributed, and therefore is not as easy to destroy in one attack. The build cost for equivalent production is about the same at any tech level.

  • It was a brilliant, brilliant idea and okay execution. It was a great game. With medium amount of improvements it could have been simply perfect.

Oh, and the soundtrack will be one of the best for eternity.

  • I think most of those improvements were in Supreme Commander. :D

  • I remember playing this game back in 2nd grade.

My CD broke and I couldn't play it anymore. D:

  • during gameplay press enter, and type in one of the codes (must type in the add sign everytime you use code):

+nowisee - you can see enemy and everything

    +atm - 1000 free energy and metal

    +doubleshot - stronger weapon attack

more players in single skirmish: in skirmish settings, just type in: *(and a roman numeral and dont press space after the *)

  • wow

  • I remember this game and TA (Total Annihilation) kingdoms

  • i avant played dis game in ages

  • The peewee robots were the best.

  • i can play this game but i cant use conflict crusher because it wont download(work) on a vista any suggestioons?

  • amazin game i used 2 luv this wen i was a bairn

  • /explodes from nostalgia

  • any one if this would work on vista? becase my friends wants it

  • i dont think so...

it wont work on my XP :S

  • yes you can! :P

  • i dont know man... :S

i can start the game, it wont crash.. but its going waaayy too slow and it keeps stopping :(( :S

  • Total Annihilation was one of the games that sparked my gaming career.

  • mine 2, definitly :D

  • i was like 9 when my family got our first computer and this came with it or somthing. i install it and love it immediatly. this game is so good my dad used to play it and hes an anti game person. im 15 now

  • 4:50 makes me cringe a bit. I know this is anal and you had numerical superiority, but advancing rocket troops against light and medium tanks is a bad idea. Keep your distance and use range to your advantage. This will reduce the firing rate of the adversary and reduce your losses. Waste not, want not.

  • I played this when I was 7, and to make things even wierder, i beat the game at that age XD

Im still playing this game even tho im 14 cause I just love this so much. Who knew a old game became a legend.

and no EA, you can't remake Total Annihilation, you already fucked the C&C series up.

  • Although people fight over which is better (TA vs SupCom), they're more or less the same, just SupCom takes it further than what you got with TA.

Probably going to get so much flak for this, but I personally think SupCom is more advanced, an yeah, better.

Theres just all the right things in SupCom that makes it more tactical, an managing units into groups an such is so much easier...

something that I found to be a problem with in TA.

However, I DO love TA, an it'll always be one of my fav.

  • Supcom is great, one of my favorite RTS games, if not my #1, its in my top 3. Cant wait for Supcom 2

  • Do you have xfire? I'll deffenatley have a game or two :D

  • wtf r u talkin bout?

  • Huh?

  • This game was my childhood, no kidding.

  • In Total annihilation is one of the best soundtrack music I have ever heard!!!.Supreme commander also has beautiful soundtrack ;].

  • my favorite infantry are, the peewees, and zippers

  • Mine's the Maverick, just love it when they pull out their guns!

  • This music is like StarWars music, but better.

  • do you know what the song's title of 3:27 was? it's been, wow, 7 or 8 years since i last touched this game.

  • i dont like Starcraft cause u can only comman ONE unit at a time! TA pwns SC. BTW the music in TA rocks

  • wait... what? You can command more than one unit at a time on SC, wtf game are you playing? Don't get me wrong, I love TA, its a fun game, but SC is a better quality game. It actually has a good story.

  • no u can't ive played it b4.

  • Maybe if you're mentally retarded. Enjoy being mentally retarded! :D

  • LOLLLLL!!!

  • ya i dont know how you have played sc an say u can only controll 1 unit

  • Remember this game back in the days when we got our first computer, this came along and I played it as soon as i managed to get it instaled (and figured out what it was :P). It realy stands out from other RTS and is hard to beat, not even starcraft it self can take the throne from Total Annihilation IMO.

Recomend people to ry it becous it truly is unique and great in menny ways

  • That would be the Punishers rite? :D

  • im pretty sure the Big Bertha is the longest ranged turret, and it is definately my favorite!.

when i was young and this game was new i remember playing skirmish and making several big berthas in one location making an unstoppable ground defense.

soo many memories, i wish i still had this game :(

  • well the music no one can deny it, its one of the bets music in ANNY rts game

  • best game ever .. downloading it now :P

  • Starcraft and TA are different classes of RTS. The longest SC game I ever saw between two good players was about 45 minutes, and that was only because for the last 15 minutes there were no more resources and it was a standoff. Total A 'IS' more about micro/macro management. How can anyone not agree? SC is a game of draughts, TA is chess. Both great games.

  • my enrgy get's used directly!!

  • Damn i'm almost crying when i hear that music it's so perfect.

  • way to waste metal all game XD

  • Yeah, terrible economy in general. But remember, this isn't really a video of how to play with the best strategy/build/etc. It's just a video of what a nifty game TA is. For the good replays, everyone goes to sites like TAUniverse and so forth.

  • I think its a computer he's versing.

  • the best song starts somewhere at 3:17 in this vid

  • omg i love this game...

    nice explosions...

    truly rts!

  • just got this game, its sweet i cant stop playing.

  • do you now a good download site

  • how get im to tech 3

  • The terrain is 2D with 3D height values and the units and effects are all rendered in 3d.

  • plus this game was relest in 1997 so give a break

  • u my boy, know absolutely nothing about a grand and truly epic strategy game which is total annihilation. most if not all fully "new" and 3d strategy games don't come close to what total annihilation has acheived in terms of grand battles and macrostrategy.

  • Seriously, learn that good games come from the past. :)

  • qualcuno sa come si fa a gicare a total multigiocatore?

  • Please tell me if im wrong: It seems to me, as though TA requires a lot less speed to effectively pump out units than Starcraft does. In Starcraft, even half decent players are going to move faster than in TA.

This isn't an indicator of skill, but it makes us marvel even more at seeing the progamers make extremely great tactical and strategical moves, because we know the skill already required to macro at the rate they do.

  • That's the point of TA, and even of its spiritual sequel, Supreme Commander. Why waste your time micromanaging to pump out your army when you could be focusing on the battles themselves. With TA you just queue up a ton of units, your building structure, and so forth and then focus on how you're going to take down the enemy. This is especially important since TA and Supcom are more strategy-based games and Starcraft is a more micromanagement-based game (along with some tactics).

  • I think SC is the superior game in all regards. What you refer to as micromanagement(expanding, gaining more resources and unit production) is actually called macromanagement or 'macro'. It takes incredible skill to macro perfectly. Then there's 'micro' which is actual unit control in individual battles. Once again this takes great skill. Great players can macro and micro well at the same time. Just look at some pro games here on youtube and you'll see what I mean :)

  • Well, I won't deny that SC has some intense micro (some Tactics) involved, but the macro (which encompasses Strategy and some Tactics) is a bit more involved in TA. There's a bigger focus on the overall plan, and less on a paper/scissor/rock tactic. This is further improved in SupCom, which not only allows for a larger field of strategy, but adds in basic logistics. SC also has the disadvantage of being too much of a war of attrition, since it has limited resources.

  • you guys should go to Total anialation universe and download warzone so you can play online

  • this game is so sweet i play it a lot

  • me too ;)

  • iv got this game but when i play single player i find the pc commander comes into my base so my units kill him,i think it spoils the game so i set it to continue if commander dies but then the computer doesnt build anything and its to easy.also the battle and victory misic does no longer work on my game on the options it just says no cd,can anyone help?

  • You need to install the game patch (version 3.1c). It fixes that problem.

  • oh right thanks :)

  • Is this a skirmish or a campaign?

  • A 3-player skirmish on the map Sherwood.

  • i think i can try to get it to work ill just delete evrything with it and reinstall but is that cc ur playing or bt? or sumthin else? ima save up for them so wen i get them i challenge sum1 here to some battles

  • It's both, but all you really need is CC.

  • i better get that then. all that stuff looks fun with those big square plants.

  • thers a map called color chaos idk if u heard of it but i put it on hard and put as many against me as i can. its hard in the beggining cuz they swarmthe shit out of u and u barely make it if ur skilled half as good as i am but after u kill all there mobile offensives they build nuthin but air defense and production plants. but yea i kik ass if i could multiplayer i would. im stuck with original and it stopped working so that bites

  • thats not how u play when i play with bots i always win its not fun build a defence around use moho metal makers and then berthas

  • total annihilation is awesome and so is the musical score. Shame in core contigency theres nothing that the arm has no kbot that can match the krogoth so it seems a little inbalanced, though ya can download 1,000 of units now of TAuniverse so it dosnt really matter. P.S that wasnt a flame just a statement.

  • if i was him id be capturing the core builders so i could build both core and arm forces

    that way you dominate more

  • Brilliant music, whoever composed it for this game deserves more recognition as its as good as any high budget hollywood blockbusters.

  • I definitely don't see any strategy here. You move guys forward and win. Add that to the fact that microing is really hard/useless and you have a game with nothing to be good at but massing. RTS games are more conducive to micro than strategy, and when they have neither they suck. The only RTS I've played that I would say is very strategic was Rome Total War, and that was totally different. So, yeah, TA, definitely not strategic. Maybe Supreme Commander is, I'll have to check it out.

  • Your right to a certain point if its against the AI (which is pretty good as far as AI goes) but against a player this game is very strategic, you can employ tactics like feints/diversionary attacks, large scale flanking maneouvers and theres a huge range of military forces to assist on tactical decisions. From long range artillery to the air force.

  • mmm, so true

as for RTS games i think empire earth was great

    same with number 2

  • i love this game...

  • I love this game! I played this game since I was a little kid...

  • I have a similar story to yours lol. I now own three copies of this and have many lan battles. Played since 6 yrs old. In fact I have played video games since I was 2.

  • lol same.. i started playing at 5 :D

  • I played TA since when i was 7, Then my CD got screwd and poff away. After like 9years i found it on TPB got it and love it.

Arms: LOVE PEEWEES! Amazing graph, sound and animation. Most cool Commander also.

Core: Love their air force. Also the KARGOTH!(CC exp)

  • Ummm he is doing ok but fighting AI and fighting a player are two diffrent things.

AI often only builds up and attacks only at later stages as for players you would be rushed as soon as 1 min into the game and they wont stop.

  • Exactly. In a real game I wouldn't be leaving myself open like I did here. I'd also be using a different building order. However, against the AI I can better show off the various features of TA without worry.

  • setting up a border around your territory is smart

just build turrets around it will save you the hassel from scattering units around the place

  • And punishers are always necesary on bigger battles, so you'll need to have at least 3.

  • You keep the enemy busy like that, especially when the enemy starts with an huge advantage on you, like in lvl 25: empyreans final stand. the tanks and stuff will be 'eaten' by the big bertha's so I 'feed' tanks to keep them 'happy'. In the meanwhile I am researching technologies, building intimidators and destroy the enemy.

  • Goglatora is gone.

  • are there no short keys for buildings in this game?

  • There are, I just don't use them in this video.

  • To joel18433: He's Arm noob!! For SylvesterInk: And why would you introduce this to newcomers, the game can't be bought anymore, only on ebay, but nobody does that alright?? Better try to entertain the experienced players, or people that have the game.

  • to many solar plants and what about geothermal, fusion, wind and wave generators? no moho mines? no nukes? you also need to get some more base defence that will protect your whole base instead of portions. gaat guns are pretty good to. you also need a vehicle plant because you can get diplomats that protect the whole field I kid you not. although it is kind of good that you got that long range thing, but their is a better one than that. yes it pretty much could hit anything on this map.

  • As I've explained several times, I took it slow to make it easier for new players to understand. I could do the whole vehicle plant -> tons of samsons/flashes thing, but frankly, that makes the game boring. Also, I had limited playtime, due to limited HD space to record. There wasn't enough time to whip out Berthas, etc. Trust me folks, I've been playing since '97. I don't need strategy tips. :D

  • ok just checken some people don't really know how to put up a third layer of defense on huge maps. For a more advanced idea of the game first line of defences are moving units laser/missle towers, doomsday devices. second line missle towers, I said this twice because sometime the missle towers overlap to hit the very begining of the first layer. diplomats mobile artillary. third layer berth's nuclear missles and missle towers to protect from air.

  • rubbish, I always put cheap missile towers on the front, and some punishers, and then I let some tanks or what patrolling in front of them, it is also handy to put some mobile artillery next to your misile towers etc. and a wall of dragons teeth ofcourse, then you have to build missile towers everywhere in your base and some radar jammers are handy two

  • I think you're doing pretty good. :)

  • Thank you. I appreciate that. :D

  • So you always use the samson/flash strategy? Better add some Peewee's, stumpy's and spiders to it, that's he best combination.

  • He does build Fusions in part 3 duh.

  • When I look at these comments, they are sometimes in the wrong order, very annoying.

  • Supreme Commander is shit y have the makers who are shit in the vids play the game they need pros saying wtat is needed coz they did a bad job

  • The makers of SupCom are the same as the makers of Total Annihilation.

    You're a fucking idiot.

That being said, SupCom and TA are very different games, with a few similarities.

  • ah, how i love those plasma batteries, i could stare at the screen for hours watching those pound away at incoming troops :)

  • This game is awesome because every attack is individually calculated, and damage depends on height, movement, etc... you can even dodge stuff with micro. But the game never made it big because its too complex. Learning curve is too steep.

  • Sadly, that looks to be the same with Supreme Commander. It's just too involved for some people. For the rest of us though . . . <3

  • Hot damn if this game doesn't have the best soundtrack ever made by Jeremy Soule. It's just perfect.

Thanks for the vid SylvesterInk. I've been playing this game for almost ten years now, and I'm not planning on stopping anytime soon. Best. RTS. Ever.

  • im soo nooby at this i play reall defensive right untill end then nothing can stand in my way (no work on hard enemy uses nukes and sh*t

  • lol i can kill any one on that i was the god of that game wen it wa son the net i won over 200 games and no los

  • i've destroyed over 300. U think ur a god. Yeah right

  • i can do this 100 times better

  • Being good at the game does not matter, just enjoying it so everyone lighten up a bit :)

  • damn dude your no where near as good as i am lol

  • This issue has been discussed as of my second comment in the first video. Read there for more information.

  • i love when commander blows up its like a nuke :P

  • this game is a legend!

  • I'd never even heard of TA until a month or so ago...now I'm addicted to it, and drooling in anticipation of Supreme Commander. Why is TA so little known, while shit games like Starcraft are so popular?

  • People tend to dumped it long ago because of high pc requirements. Probably StarCraft is more colorful that is why sissies loved it!

  • Lol i remembered when i first played this game in something like 2001 (possibly even earlier i think), it was like THE RTS at the time. Now look at games, Supreme Commander, made by the same guys who made TA, looks awesome.

  • how did u recorded this?

  • We're all TA lovers, must we insult each other? =/

  • i agree

  • I love TA's battle music. You're actually really good at this game. A lot better than me. :P

  • you must be noobish of the noob

  • I don't play this game very much, unlike you. I do have a life you know.

  • yeah don't insult him
