I like the 2004-2006 wrangler unlimited (LJ) better than the jk models. The front end doesn't look right to me because it's slanted so much the previous generations came with a better engine
@grahamster8 im 15 and am going to do the same thing, for the same reason!! haha i thiink its a good idea because its exactly what im doing. idk though
i feel like if i should get a 4 door jeep wrangler you might as well get a hummer h3 they look kind of similar i know they are different but i think they're ugly anyways i think the regular two door is much better.
I bought the 2011 Unlimited Sahara, paid $34,000 for it. It's not the top of the line of all the wranglers. But I like the matching paint fenders and top. The Rubicon, is by far the best offroad vehicle out there. My Sahara will be lifted with lockers and diffs changed out in a few weeks.
I'm getting my first car soon and wanted it to be a Jeep Wrangler, should I get a 4 door hard top or a soft top, I live in Miami, FL so i will not face any snow thnx.
well that's a sahara you're testing and the sway disconnect at 1.49 is only on the Rubicon.so how the fuck can you say you loved it when it isn't even on the fuckin jeep you tested?????????
@DeathByBilly So the Audi A3 TDI, BMW 335D, Mercedes R350, and the Volkswagen Jetta TDI are not "drivers vehicles?" Just because they are diesel doesn't mean its gonna be loud, rough, and blowing smoke. Diesel power has come a long way to become a more driver friendly power plant, and in some cases, more economical as well.
Jeep would do very well with a small diesel power plant. More power for driving, more torque for crawling and more fuel efficiency for a vehicle notorious for bad MPG's.
@azminivanracer im saying there should be no reason that you would ever be thinking of fuel economy in a car that you were getting for enjoyment. that should be the last of your worries
@DeathByBilly I do think of fuel economy. I live in the country, and work in the city. My Jeep is my daily driver. I know I'm not the only person in the US who lives in the country and/ or useJeeps as daily drivers for whatever reason. Jeeps are utility vehicles FIRST. Anything other than utility is of a secondary nature. That is what they have been designed for since their inception at Bantam. They are designed as working vehicles. Consumers just use their ruggedness for entertainment.
Why did they get rid of the 4.0 in the Wrangler is beyond me. I have 285/75/17's woth a 2" lift and it killed my power. Even with computer tweaks it's still bad. Come on Jeep lets get a bigger engine in the future!
@chriso352 the machines in the factory had worn out and needed to be retooled so they had to design a replacement engine. Hopefully jeep will stick the new DOHC pentastar in.
@chriso352 The 4.0L no longer passed the new emission standards. I don't think the 3.8L is that bad. Plus it has more power than the 4.0L did. I have a Volant CAI and a Superchips programmer and it's plenty powerful.
@chriso352 bigger is not better!!! they need to tweak the engine for more power output but there is no need for bigger!! the most retarded suggestion ever!!!!
a bigger engine is definitely not the way to go with the wrangler. you already get your ass kicked by how much gas this thing sucks up, a bigger engine would make it worse
@chriso352 TJs, CJs, YJs, JKs... i've owned em all and my 3.8L V6 3" lifted '08 Rubicon has the best power to fuel economy out of every Wrangler i've ever had. i even had the in-line 4, 2.5L '97 TJ "gas saver engine" and my JK spanks it on fuel economy. you need to get your engine serviced man.
@chriso352 i totally agree with you, the AMC built 4.2L and newer 4.0L inline six's were unmatched in reliability and power. Now that all the jeeps come with the damned Chryslers V6's the reliability has gone down the drain and so has the power... BRING THE 4.0'S BACK
@Mrnjo29 I plan on keeping it for a VERY long time. I forgot how well they hold their value, I guess I could justify spending that money. Thanks for all the info.
@Mrnjo29 that's good to hear. One more question. Did you find the price to be reasonable? I priced out the model I want, sahara unlimited and it came out to be 35'000 cad before taxes. That seems a bit steep for a vehicle like the wrangler, although the interiors are of much higher quality for 2011. It is in my price range but I'm not sure if I can justify spending that much on a wrangler. I tried looking for used but these things hold their value, I'm better off buying new.
@triplev789 I optioned in the leather seats and navigation. I think that's what did it. The difference in my monthly payments was marginal so I thought I would include them. The dealer said they could give me a better price as well. I'm holding off until 2012 until the new 3.6 engine comes out. After a test drive I realized how underpowered the current wrangler really is.
@kbs1664 I also optioned in the leather seats and navigation. And my pricing is about 32,000. So i'm not exactly sure why your price is little more expensive. Did you get the matching color hardtop? I mean, I optioned in leather seats, bluetooth, navagation, side airbags (which for some reason weren't originally included), and more. So maybe you should try to visit a different dealer, or bargain with the dealer.
@triplev789 Are you in the US? I'm in canada so that might explain the higher price. If not then I'll definitley go to another dealer as this does seem steep.
In a month or two I suspect I'll be cashing in my 401k (because my job is being outsourced) and, thus, I'd like either a truck or a two door Jeep for fairly light off road activity. My hope is to get something that is very reliable and doesn't drink too much gas. Any thoughts regarding which type of vehicle I should get would be greatly appreciated. THANKS!
P.S. Do car dealers knock a lot off the price if one tells them they'll pay in cash?:-)

@Mrnjo29 Thanks for the info! All I see is bad critic reviews online but every statement from a jeep owner is that they love their wrangler. I will definitley be getting the hard top as I plan to mount a roof rack. I'll also be getting the 4 door unlimited. Did you have any mechanical issues?
Anybody own one of these to use as a daily driver? I want to get an SUV, something fun to drive and good in snow/ice. The only thing that comes to mind is a wrangler. I know most people look for comfort and smoothness, but I want a vehicle that has a "raw" feel to it. I like the feeling of being connected to the road. I hate basically all new vehicles because they are too refined. No road feel. It's almost as if the car is driving you. I hope that makes sense.
Agreed. The Hummers are for the ghetto or the wigger crowd, the Land Rovers are for the snooty rich people (or a wanna be) like the BMW, Lexus, Accura or Mercedes SUV.
By the way, a Jeep is not a car or a truck (though I did have a Jeep truck, a Comanche), it's a SUV.
I hate it when people call my little 2008 Patriot a "truck."
Have ad 5 days. The ride is way smoother than my last 99 TJ Wrangler. Got the hardtop so the ride is quieter this time. Absolutely love the dash and upgrades to interior. Why no have the luxury and function>
we have a 2006 Jeep Wrangler Golden Eagle...we love the thing! It lacks power windows and the other crap, but it has the special sound system, and a heavy-duty rear axle. took it off-roading once....really cool.
get rid of the power crap. ALL OF IT!!!!!! no power windows now ac no power locks, hell you dont even need power steering in a vehicle as small as this one. get rid of all this stuff and the vehicle cost will be cut by almost 20% also make plastic fenders optional to cut cost. jeeps should be among the cheapest vehicles on the road. rugged simplicity.
I would not buy one, if it was your only vehicle, rough choppy ride,
poor gas mileage, noisy inside, underpowered for highway, high center of gravity
makes it prone to tip over in a high speed accident avoidence manuver, limited cargo space, expensive to insure, due to high theft rate, and poor safety rating because of roll over factor, better have deep pockets for repair bills, if you plan on
beating it up 4 wheeling, for transmissions and drive components.
@federalwarhawk Thank you. I am thinking of either getting a Rubicon or a Challenger. Since this will be my only car I am worried about the daily commute, highway speed, and the smoothness of the ride. Of course it won't handle like a Challenger...but I don't want to be EXTRA uncomfortable.
i love the wrangler becuase it symbolises indivudalism.. you can do what you want. hard top, soft top, bikini top, hell no top! you can take off the doors. and the best part i think is the ability to fold the windshield down... epic
This car is cool and fun but it absolutely blows in reliability. This car has one of the highest rollover rates on the road and the breaking is horrible. I would never buy one.
@CubanRevival I read all the reviews and I've driven one. There is something called the death wobble. It takes so long to break compared to other cars. It just isn't meant for the road. it is only good off road. Therefore, I'm buying a Honda PIlot
the Edmans review said "only a donkey pulling a cart is worst than the Wrangler" gutless gas guzzling motor only 200 hp. but still would like one anyway
If anyone is looking to buy one of these, you might consider waiting until next model year because Chrysler has a new V6 coming out that would be a nice upgrade for the wrangler.
Delatorre: Kia!? Really? Dude those prices of shit r made of plastic and can't go offroad if it's life depended on it! Jeep Toyota and land rover r where it's at!!!!!!
@ColoradoProductions dude i went through more land rovers than i want to remember. couldnt trust those pieces of shit to drive to the shops. i was a big big fan and didnt want to believe the stories but after 5 discoveries a defender and a freelander i can say they are the softest pieces of shit ( besides alfa) on the road. they look great though. and go anywhere (for a while). but never depend on one.
I've got to say, this is probably one of the best (if not THE best) American car you can buy. So small and practical compared to other oversized pieces of shit.
This especially coming from me, and I usually hate American cars.
all engines haves a good usable lifespan nowdays, for the rest it will need maintenance and replacements eventually, then you can put performance parts!!! The computer and electronics might fail like in the GM products...
The Jeep Wrangler is fun, capable and rugged but I wouldnt describe it as comfortable. You can certainly drive one every day but it does ride firm and the interior can be loud in models equipped with the soft top. I suggest test driving a wrangler and a Subaru Impreza back-to-back. Thatll give you a clearer view of the compromises that come with the Wrangler.
Never have had a huge thing for jeeps, today i had my car worked on and had a choice of renting a pt cruiser or a wrangler. I chose the wrangler of course, it was the 2wd unlimited verision with bare base options. Long story short, i love jeeps now and im tempted to trade my 300 in for a new one loaded. If you never drove one, give it a go because thats the only way it serves justice.
I like the exterior, but I think the interior looks so cheap. It is not so fuel efficienty; a diesel version could be a good option with the current gas prices.
that's great if i lived in an area around "rocks" , how does this "jeep" do in snow or ice, i've consider the purchase of the jeep, but i may need some input from you . your opinion will be appreiciated....Iknow the saying "it's a jeep thing" but let's face it , their's a lot of four - wheeled drives out there "boasting"...help me out
KBB is not reliable. Stick with NADA or Edmunds for used car pricing and reviews.

ALL OF IT!!!!!! no power windows now ac no power locks, hell you dont even need power steering in a vehicle as small as this one. get rid of all this stuff and the vehicle cost will be cut by almost 20% also make plastic fenders optional to cut cost. jeeps should be among the cheapest vehicles on the road. rugged simplicity.

intheblues 1 year ago
I would not buy one, if it was your only vehicle, rough choppy ride,
poor gas mileage, noisy inside, underpowered for highway, high center of gravity
makes it prone to tip over in a high speed accident avoidence manuver, limited cargo space, expensive to insure, due to high theft rate, and poor safety rating because of roll over factor, better have deep pockets for repair bills, if you plan on
beating it up 4 wheeling, for transmissions and drive components.
federalwarhawk 1 year ago

Willvoorhees 1 year ago
@Willvoorhees really? what makes you say that? i thought they were really dependable.
CubanRevival 1 year ago
@CubanRevival I read all the reviews and I've driven one. There is something called the death wobble. It takes so long to break compared to other cars. It just isn't meant for the road. it is only good off road. Therefore, I'm buying a Honda PIlot

Good job Jeep. You've made an American icon even better.

I tested a 2005 x and 2010x and I have say the 05 is a smoother ride. It's also a rocky mountain ed. Maybe that has something to do with it.
snapsoidpablo1 1 year ago
If anyone is looking to buy one of these, you might consider waiting until next model year because Chrysler has a new V6 coming out that would be a nice upgrade for the wrangler.

I'm going to get a 1997-1999 Jeep Wrangler Sahara, I can't friggin wait!

I didn't realize that the airconditiong was only optional in the 2 door wrangler, I'm wondering if this is still the case in the 2010 model?

Delatorre: Kia!? Really? Dude those prices of shit r made of plastic and can't go offroad if it's life depended on it! Jeep Toyota and land rover r where it's at!!!!!!
ColoradoProductions 1 year ago 10
@ColoradoProductions dude i went through more land rovers than i want to remember. couldnt trust those pieces of shit to drive to the shops. i was a big big fan and didnt want to believe the stories but after 5 discoveries a defender and a freelander i can say they are the softest pieces of shit ( besides alfa) on the road. they look great though. and go anywhere (for a while). but never depend on one.

still like my 03 TJ better.. just wish it had lockers
loki98765 1 year ago
I've got to say, this is probably one of the best (if not THE best) American car you can buy. So small and practical compared to other oversized pieces of shit.
This especially coming from me, and I usually hate American cars.

does anyone know how reliable is the Wrangler? how many years it can go without problems?
torturer6666 1 year ago
@torturer6666
all engines haves a good usable lifespan nowdays, for the rest it will need maintenance and replacements eventually, then you can put performance parts!!! The computer and electronics might fail like in the GM products...

Of course it's as fun as the 2 door! It's a WRANGLER!! It's just a little bit longer and a little more expensive but it's still a wrangler!

would it be good for me im 17 and debating it between the chrokee and this

Side impact airbags aren't standard on Wranglers. Even the new 2010 Wranglers don't come with side impact airbags standard.

I used to the look of the 4 door now. Get Jeeps at an affordable price.

im going to start driving soon and i want a capible vehicle while having the comfort for everyday driving..... should i get a wrangler?
stumpy4348 2 years ago

Celrage 2 years ago
I like the exterior, but I think the interior looks so cheap. It is not so fuel efficienty; a diesel version could be a good option with the current gas prices.
miguel3rodriguez 2 years ago
Get a propane conversion.
Charles2337 2 years ago
better deal, because this is more fuel effecient, cheaper and easier than the Hummers.
