Punches to the head used to be allowed in Kyokushin competition but due to the high level of hand conditioning and the power generated the injuries were simply too many to make it a viable competition form.

Kyokushinkai is full contact that means you dont fight easy and that shit you need to knock him off . or just have the most points:P I love the weelkicks
@Honisch3991 I noticed the same thing when I starting practicing kyokushin... and I liked this fact very much because I realized this guard and way of punching is more effective than the traditional one when you are sparring in a continuous fashion. However we still practice traditional stances like zenkutsu dachi and kokutsu dachi, but they are mainly used for kihon, kata and sometimes defense. Osu!
Shotokan will end your world if you walk up with your guard like in Kyokushin, straight punch to the face, he will be in and out so fast with a single KO punch... DON'T forget the traditional strikes to the head!!! OSSSSUUUUUUUU!!!! =D
@GuamKomudo Being a taekwondo practicioner I did shotokan for some time before starting kyokushin and sparred with some shotokan dudes, I didn't see the speed nor power you are talking about. I was only a blue belt and could easily dominate a shotokan black belt... After joining kyokushin, I sparred with another shotokan black belt, this one faster, but without real power nor continuity in his strikes... seems my "slow" momo mawashi geris did the job pretty well. OSU!
Nice Vid. But there is no best "Karate" or "Martial Art". Every Martial Art ist just as good as the practicioner. So one can say that the best Karate(Empty Hand) comes from inside of you. (Miyagi style, dog!)

Karate is near useless in a real fight! If your just doing it for exercise or maybe some mental conditioning, then cool. But, anyone who thinks this is an effective style in a real life encounter is just silly. Wake up.
The problem is not the martial art, but the sheer amount of idiots who think they have mastered it. They buy their black belts/ sashes/ hakama... from their Sensei or sifu (a fraud who after 3-4 years of training declares them a master) and get their teeth kicked in by any random village fair brawler. And then they give their martial art a bad name. I have no illusions whatsoever about being a skilled fighter. I just like martial arts and am quite fond of light sparring.
are u stupid? karate was made for WAR. in fact there are U.S. marines that train in karate and other martial arts. and one of the best UFC fighters train in karate. do your research b4 u comment and make urself look like a moron.
You say 'Karate' like all karate is the same. If you cannot differentiate between real karate and mcdojo karate then I don't believe you are qualified to make blanket statements on 'Karate's' effectiveness. Techniques permitted in a rule set does represent the whole art. 'Wakeup'.
Spot on my friend. I teach and trust me its not a mcdojo. real karate and commercialisation dont go hand in hand, its too hard. Sport karate is all based on its rules as are the sporting element of other arts. Teaching for points is fine but real karate is about self defence (one shot one kill) not about trading endless punches and kicks. Respect my freind.
Hey numbnuts, what you see hear is a sport not self defence. What do you think a karate ka is going to stand and trade blows for 5 mins with his attacker on the street. Karate has different aspects to it. The sparring is a modern 'side effect' of karate but true karate, is not for points. Trust me these guys will know self defence. You'll have a pop at them and before you know it you'll have a bust face or a bust wrist.
you are right belt dont mean shit but at least u can recognize a black belt form his fighting stance and i didnt see any movement in his fight
you are right that u have a good skill of mawashi giri but in fight there is not only mawashi giri
u win ur kyokushin fight not on mawashi giri .you will win on ur fighting stance movement toughness speed and cleverness rather then a mawashi giri so give attention to these skill as well
oh yes of course, i know what you mean... i was being stupid.. the best thing about me, is that i have the ability to plan multiple attacks while on the defence... i allways suprize people when i sparr in the dojo, my moves are never repeatative and allways flowing into somthing tricky... sorry if i sound cocky and stupid...but im dead serious, i love my martial arts...fighting is so much fun for me, i cant help but smile when fighting
i did this style of karate for 5 years and to be honest when i ever got into a fight with someone they never ever had time to hit me u can control the fight so easily with this style and even when they do hit u it doesnt really hurt and u basiclly punch or kick them back as a recation to being hit
kyokushin is bretty good but it has few weaknesses: they don't really try avoid much...they just believe that their body can take all what the opponent offers. To me this is bad for their leg movement. Example Hajime kazumi. Alltought there are still light legged fighters like gary o'neill.
"Kyokushin places high emphasis on full contact fighting which is done without any gloves or protective equipment. This apparent brutality is tempered somewhat by the fact that you are not allowed to use a non-kick or non-knee strike to hit your opponent in the face, thus greatly reducing the possibility of serious injury. Knees or kicks to the head and face, on the other hand, are allowed.
...In the earliest Kyokushin tournaments and training sessions bare knuckle strikes to the face were allowed but resulted in many injuries, and, thus, students who were forced to withdraw from training. Mas Oyama believed that wearing protective gloves would detract from the realism that the style emphasizes. Therefore, it was decided that hand and elbow strikes to the head and neck would no longer be allowed in training and competition."
The issue about the punches to the head is that it is one of the most tried and true techniques in any fight. These guys are for real, no doubt, but they don't even worry about protecting there face.
The question about punches to the face is always boring. Who talks about: no kicks in boxing,no gouge to the eyes or no fingers crush in bjj, no throws or big gloves in muay thai, no stomp in mma etc... It is just competition rules,a sport. That's it! All of what you see in any fight,no matter the style is what is not really dangerous. If it was ,it wouldn't be allowed. So why always comparing things. It is not war or self defence,it is sport with rules. Everybody tries to be the best at their MA
not sure of the year but was developed my mas oyama. Having studied shotokan and i believe guju ruy and some judo. He went away and trained in the mountains and developed Kyokushinkai, after becoming disolusioned with what he was taught. It is an unique style of Karate in the way they train and spar.
In the late 1940's Mas Oyama developed his own style modified from styles he studied. In the 1950's it was known as Oyama Karate. Officially in 1964 he founded, built and opened the Honbu(Headquarters)Dojo of Kyokushin Kai Kan in Tokyo,Japan. "Association of the Ultimate Truth Society" is the translation. Kyoku = Ultimate or Utmost, Shin = Truth, Kai = Society and Kan = Association.
i have studied Kyokushinkai and fought knockdown, now i do Thaiboxing, no disrespect to Knockdown but its nowhere near as hard as Muay Thai, U dont need to defend from head punches in knockdown and as the great late Andy Hug found out when he started K1 its hard to keep your gaurd up from punches when your not training them, but Kyokushin helped with the low kicks and knees. 1 rule is you should respect all martial arts sport or practical
kingreader36 obviously has never been punched in the face by an kyokushinkai oponent with some experience. They do not wear gloves thats why they dont punch to the face. The aim is to knock you oponent down without face punching. YOU KNOCKERS NEED TO DO SOME RESEARCH
Tournaments are sports. Stop to try to compare karate to muay thai to bjj etc... You cannot say what a martial art is just by watching sport competition.
Kingreader: I practice BJJ and Judo, but I think it is incorrect that JJ is THE way to streetfight. In 1 v 1 controlled matches against an opponent who is ignorant of grappling, BJJ kicks butt. On the street though you generally want to attack quickly and stay up. This karate seems appealing too because you can stun an opponent so you can flee. It is more street worthy than 95% of the karate out there were you do frilly moves that usually leave you open for a butt kicking.
We are only seeing the best bits. Most Kyokushinkai matches last too long because both sides r too strong n no face punch or take-downs. What happened to Oyama's one strike one kill power? Pitty it isn't amongst his disciples.
that's why, if the combats are so long, this guys should be like rocks. one punch of this guys to a non trained person can kill him or produce serious damage. and if its a face punch... just imagine xD
you can call this lame.. but this martial art,, not as a sport.. is the most effective there is. in a ''real fight'' the techniqes and the ''spirit'' are the perfect combination. but you must do this sport to know it and feel it. you certainly don't know it or feel it. but let me say this: this martial art is NOT lame.
I didn't say martial arts were lame. I said this was lame. And by the way, techniques only help if you take it to the ground and use jujitsu. Anyone can punch.
there are way more techniqes then just punching. but if you're able to combine martial arts its even better. i'm doing kyokushinkai in combination with tai chi ki and some other martial arts. like that you can create you're own kind of style:D which is the best, listen to bruce lee;)
If you stepped into a true Kyokushin Dojo and sparred with some of the fighters there you would have a great appreciation for the skill, experience, will and spirit of Kyokushin. You would also be feeling a great deal of pain for which you have not been conditioned to receive with any other martial arts you may have studied. Then you would reconsider calling this lame.
'Anyone can punch' . perhaps you would like to tell that to Ray Leonard, Muhamad Ali, Roy Jones, Floyd Mayweather etc, etc, etc. Please just shut up with this ignorance. You are embarrassing yourself. cheers
The reason theres no pace contact is because they dont use gloves like boxing. If you ever got punched in the face by an experienced kyoukushin guy, this would completely smash your face in. SO THAT IS WHY NO FACE CONTACT. Any idiot can knock a person down with a face punch. DO SOME RESEARCH BEFORE U MAKE COMMENTS.
Did you know the the UFC fights used to have fights without gloves? They used to take punches to the face, full force, and either get knocked out, or keep going. And yes, any idiot can knock a person down. The true test is to dodge the punch, block it, or deflect it. And besides, my original argument was that this was not full contact. Which it obviously isn't. There is no possible way that you could say that it is, when they can't punch to the face.
STUDY Martial Arts b4 you make comments, then you can say you know what your talking about. You made my point UFC strike to the face so its easier to knock someone down, can you see what im saying. It is very easy to insult someone behind a keyboard. YOUR SPELLING IS NOT TO GREAT EITHER
UFC is also not full contact. I think you do not understand what full contact is. NO martial art used in sport is full contact, or wise they would be ripping each others ears off. Get off your keyboard and take a trip to a dojo and join. Then come back and lets talk like adults.
I've done six years of tae kwon do and three years of jiu jitsu. I've been KO'd, TKO'd, and tapped out plenty of times. And I don't know why your getting so upset about it, but thank you for conceding to my point that this is not full contact.
Yes i never said it was and its also not lame as you pointed out in some of your statements. You have obviously never sparred as near as full contact as possible, thats obvious from your chosen two martial arts. The point i was making is there is more skill at winning an oponent without hitting the face, thats all.You made the connection between UFC and full contact which shows your lack of understanding.
It is still full contact. When we strike there are no pulled punches or kicks and no protective equiptment. There is just no bare knuckle face punching for safety reasons. Even the UFC banned that!
0:43 hahaha that was nice XD

I feel even if you watch a BJJ practictioner win against a Karateka, you still can't make the determination that BJJ is better.
There are way too many components to martial arts to easily make any calls like that, unless you've mastered both.

1 rule is you should respect all martial arts sport or practical
drunkwonder 4 years ago
kingreader36 obviously has never been punched in the face by an kyokushinkai oponent with some experience.

Pitty it isn't amongst his disciples.

that's why, if the combats are so long, this guys should be like rocks. one punch of this guys to a non trained person can kill him or produce serious damage. and if its a face punch... just imagine xD

if you cant punch the face its not "full body contact"
Kingreader36 4 years ago
you can kick the face.. so its full contact
fridwoow 4 years ago
Okay, but your fist cannot make CONTACT with the face, which means your FULL BODY cannot make CONTACT. Which makes this LAME.
Kingreader36 4 years ago
you can call this lame.. but this martial art,, not as a sport.. is the most effective there is. in a ''real fight'' the techniqes and the ''spirit'' are the perfect combination. but you must do this sport to know it and feel it. you certainly don't know it or feel it. but let me say this: this martial art is NOT lame.
fridwoow 4 years ago
I didn't say martial arts were lame. I said this was lame. And by the way, techniques only help if you take it to the ground and use jujitsu. Anyone can punch.
Kingreader36 4 years ago
there are way more techniqes then just punching. but if you're able to combine martial arts its even better. i'm doing kyokushinkai in combination with tai chi ki and some other martial arts. like that you can create you're own kind of style:D which is the best, listen to bruce lee;)

19SAS 4 years ago
Did you know the the UFC fights used to have fights without gloves? They used to take punches to the face, full force, and either get knocked out, or keep going. And yes, any idiot can knock a person down. The true test is to dodge the punch, block it, or deflect it. And besides, my original argument was that this was not full contact. Which it obviously isn't. There is no possible way that you could say that it is, when they can't punch to the face.
DO SOME LEARNING BEFORE YOU TRY TO SPELL.
Kingreader36 4 years ago
STUDY Martial Arts b4 you make comments, then you can say you know what your talking about. You made my point UFC strike to the face so its easier to knock someone down, can you see what im saying. It is very easy to insult someone behind a keyboard. YOUR SPELLING IS NOT TO GREAT EITHER
19SAS 4 years ago
UFC is also not full contact. I think you do not understand what full contact is. NO martial art used in sport is full contact, or wise they would be ripping each others ears off. Get off your keyboard and take a trip to a dojo and join. Then come back and lets talk like adults.

I've done six years of tae kwon do and three years of jiu jitsu. I've been KO'd, TKO'd, and tapped out plenty of times. And I don't know why your getting so upset about it, but thank you for conceding to my point that this is not full contact.
Kingreader36 4 years ago
Yes i never said it was and its also not lame as you pointed out in some of your statements. You have obviously never sparred as near as full contact as possible, thats obvious from your chosen two martial arts. The point i was making is there is more skill at winning an oponent without hitting the face, thats all.You made the connection between UFC and full contact which shows your lack of understanding.
19SAS 4 years ago
It is still full contact. When we strike there are no pulled punches or kicks and no protective equiptment. There is just no bare knuckle face punching for safety reasons. Even the UFC banned that!
dokokai 3 years ago 2
Yep, under Mas Oyamas time headpunches was allowed in Kyokushin, but as you said, it was banned. Peace.
