hehe,I made a rebuild of my 2 stroke engine and it started on 4th try as the carb was empty and I was really damn surprised of it starting at all and ye it sounds like this when its cold,run it for like 5 min then take a tour and rev it up to max and shift(When its cold):) works great for me and then as i start to shift up to third gear it goes better already,i had to change the yet in the carb also to give it the proper ammount of gas:)Nice bike btw

the roller main bearings are notorios for play , take ignition cover off and grab a handfull of see if any play in , also check clutch basket for slack , ktm clutch baskets are noisy as ,, gl man

@goneriden9543 Its a notoruis problem known to the kx250. Have to go slow till it catches and then kick. Pain yes, problem depends. I wouldnt worry about it.

Stuartb...I watched your video and have to say this is a normal sound...although it sounds abnorma. I had a 1996 KX250 and it was loud at the power valve...now have a 2005 KX250 and the power valve is insanely loud like your video sounds to me. The exact same rattly idle sound, then it fades away when you get on the gas. I have decided not to worry about it and just enjoy riding it. Thanks for the vid.

@GottaRoost I've got a 2005 sounds very similar, just had a total rebuild and my mate has one too all sound the same. The spring in the powervale snapped on mine and was very loud rattle,but I guess they just rattle being kawasaki's. Very powerfull though, loads more than a 250f or my mates YZ 250 if I can keep the front wheel down without the back spinning Ha Ha!

KIPS valve makes that noise on KDX machines. Perfectly normal on that bike. I just bought a 1991 KX250 with low hours and it sounds like that too. Hopefully just normal sound as JBlinky mentioned.

yes its definately the kips valve, having had a complete rebuild i'd assume its been decoked and hence is tapping, this is common and goes after a bit of carbon has built up again.

cant be a bearing as it had 100% new bearings top and bottom end, not just crank bearings but every bearing, this is the 1st start of it since the rebuild, totally cold, it sounds totally different not on camera,
