Despite what everyone says hyena's actually kill 95% of their own food, only 5% of the time do they scavenge other animals kills, they are also more closely related to felines than they are to canines. I have to agree with mya1215 they are really cute (In a "I'm going to rip you to shreds' kind of way)

Actually, I think that both male and felmale hyena cubs get the ranking of their mothers, it is only when the male or female hyena leaves their natal clan and join another one is when they fall to the very bottom of the hierarchy. That is the reason why male hyenas are low ranked, because they leave their natal clan to join other clans in order to have a chance to mate. Since they don't inbreed. Also, some male hyenas stay with their natal clan for life, and keep the rank o their mothers
Male and Female hyenas are almost identical, the females have a 'psuedopenis' which makes it hard to tell them apart until they give birth through it. Also I find it funny how the hyenas are 'trollish.' It really looks like they're laughing are the lone lion since he can't do anything to them which make watching them so comical

I made the crying hyena to be one with a slight pot-belly and rounded underside, signs of a female. Males are trim with straight undersides rising slightly to their rear legs; they're last to eat and get the least.
OTOH, I could be mistaken and it still could be a male. If so, he arrived after the females, and got reminded of his place—hard.

I hope they leave that freeloading lion thug nothing. Hyena aren't scavengers; their hunts succeed much more often than lion hunts, w/50% or higher success vs. lions 30% or LESS success. Why their bad rep? Before night vision, scientists saw hyenas taking lion leavings at daybreak and assume (reasonably) hyenas were living off lion kills. When night vision enabled them to track both animals at night, they saw it was hyena that made the kill, lions took it over, and then hyenas took it back.
