  • Please stop comparing this to a boxter or a cayman (or a coupe boxter-coxter) or some ZR1 or GTR. All of those cars aimed at a different groups of buyers. Porsche GT3 is a purpose built track car, not some fragile supercar that people buy for posing. You can beat the GT3 around the track all day long without breaking it while other cars would probably fall apart within few hours of hard driving. Again, there is more to life than test numbers and on paper performance comparisons.

  • The 911 has been Porsche's flagship for years, but I wonder how much longer it will be able to compete with the newcomers in it's class? I wish Porsche would do something with a more sensible mid-engined layout. Not as extreme as the Carrera GT, but not as tame as the Boxster. Actually, a Boxster with the same powertrain, suspension, components as a GT3 would trump the 911...and probably the ZR1 and GT-R. Why not do it?!?

  • Remember- we are comparing a German legend with a Japanese newcomer. The fastest lap doesn't always equal the better car. If that was the case then the ZR1 trumps both mentioned here, and I prefer both to the Chevy.

  • H, Flat, or Boxers are engines are that have 2 flat or 180 degree cylinders on both sides of the crankshaft. The pistons are always horizontally opposed. There is no real performance benefit to this design however because the engine has a smaller profile, the weight can distributed lower and more evenly, this is the reason Porsche still use this design in their cars.

  • the real good value of having a flat 6 over a v6 is that the flat configuration sit a little bit lower than a V configuration engine. By doing this they can achive a lower center of gravity. Make them handly a little bit better.

  • That is an option, but it still comes as a manual standard. The GT2 only comes in a 6spd manual. Like a real car.

  • why are the companies so bent on supplying double clutch flappy paddle gearboxes instead of proper manuals? they cost more money, and are worse. the pdk doesn't even use paddles, it uses the tiptronic, which i don't like.

  • but that's the point, they only work on the track. even if you are a track day enthusiast, you're mostly going to be using your car on the road, and that's where a manual makes more sense. plus it's more fun even on the track, regardless if it's .000000001 slower than the pdk.

  • Porsche Need something to get a better laptime on Nurburgring. Also, it's not quite the car you want for everyday, GT3 is not a comfortable ride, tires last much shorter than common ones. More, automatic is a not bad on the road, CVT is the future~ Although I personally prefer manual.

    and yes, a proper automatic isn't bad at all in everyday life, but this one has an automated clutch, which means parking is now a bitch.

  • Because the GTR's Nurburgring times totally go along with the other times the GTR has accomplished in all the other tracks. It's not like Porsches always kicks the GTR's ass in all tracks but the 'ring. The GT2 is very close in track performance to the GTR; they are about even.

  • No, actually the 911 turbo has been beat in every single track by the base GTR. Even up to 10 seconds in a 4.2 mile course (2008 Lightning Lap at V.I.R.). The GT2 beats the GTR in a little over half the courses they've both been to. So in terms of performance, the GT2 is much closer to the GTR than the 911T.

  • Yes, that particular 911t was very slow. Who knows what was going on with it.

    But the bottom line is this: In every single road course that the GTR and 911T have been at, the GTR will virtually 100% of the time do a faster lap. That's what happened in courses like Willow Springs, Streets of Willow, Auto Club Speedway, El Toro Autocross, etc....

    So given that the GTR does indeed beat the 911T (and sometimes the GT2) at countless road courses... why would the Nurburgring be the only exception?
