@merlin theres a big difference between driving, horse riding and tattooing my friend. these hacks tattoo people out of their homes without any regard for the people they tattoo. Driving and horse riding has nothing to do with lives, skin, blood, disease, cross contamination and so on. They have no way of disposing of dirty needles and make tattooing look bad bc they dont know what theyre doing. For some reaon ppl feel they should have a free ride in a business.
i think some of the best tattoo artists out there are somewat self taught. who learn to tattoo on the own and on there selfs. some people cant afford apprenticeship, and love the art of tattooing and want to fallow there dreams on becoming a tattoo artist someday and the only way to do so is to learn themself. ya being clean and sterile is a must. but come on people, give self taught artists a break, at least they are fallowing there dreams. and wanting to better there lifes
oh yeah and since all of you are soooo good and make soooo much money, put your portfolio's up so we can see the amazing work you're all doing. Esp. SAV, I can imagine your stuff is top notch. Esp with the fact you think that shaky lines have nothing to do with your hand! HAHAHAHAH...try using your feet then you idiot
and yes some are self taught but they dont sit in their homes and fuck people up either. I see it all day everyday, people come in my doors with hack bullshit that "their boy" did in the house. you holier than thou, respect-less wanna-be's are fucking up tattooing. oh wait I forgot if you're a union worker, I forgot you start at the top, don't have to pay your dues, dont have to pay for training or schooling, just walk on it. I'm certain that 99%of you cant draw a tattoo design worth a shit
Trust me, nobody think of anyone as a threat! HAHA Why is it that people should be allowed to just walk on in without starting at the bottom? none of you no dick about tattooing or the history, you just want to be 'rock stars' or whatever. you want to tattoo, start drawing, painting and getting tattooed. get the door slammed in you face. oh wait why should you pay? well how about the YEARS that we put it. and we should just give that for free? why pay for college? why pay for anything?
Actually you're WRONG! Tattooing traditions are being tarnished by huge crops of wanna-be's. You need to pay your dues to this business and do what it takes to be a professional. You know how many people before you had to grind and grind and grind to get just a chance? Nobody has respect for the business or the people that busted their ass's to get in. not sitting at home and fucking people up and making tattooing look bad. HAVE SOME RESPECT FOR PEOPLE THAT DID THE RIGHT THING!
Most of the world's top artists are self taught. I'm teaching myself but I come from 20+ yrs in the design/illustration business and I can draw very well, so for me it's all about technique. And I'm doing my own legs before I go anywhere near somebody else's skin.
@SALVOLOGY Trial and error my friend. Unfortunatley...That's a shitty way to put it. There is no room for error on skin. It's just something that you can't make mistakes with. A steady hand is a good trait to have in the industry. Shaky hands most commonly come from being nervous. Find ways to relax yourself before starting the process. Turn some music on that you like listening to. I do. Good luck to you.
@XxViolentByDesignxX Yeah I feel you and yeah the music thing might help but I don't really have chaky hands it's just that several times some lines have came out hella" shaky and I think its the machine but I don't know what the fuck it is you know...
@SALVOLOGY Oh is that what you think you pathetic little fuck? Dude, I work with some of the best tattooers in the world. Cuz, I'll smoke you in everything and anything you hack, piece of shit..What kind of stupid ass question was THAT anyway? I can only imagine the work you do. Thats okay, infect someone, and hopefully you get what you deserve, and them too for that matter. The epidemic isnt just you hacks, its the cheapskate rejects that actually get tattooed by you idiots.
@sauce2034 You're just mad cause anybody can do the weak shit you do for half the price!! So you have to self glorify yourself so people would pay you your desperate ass high price for some weak ass shit with the bullshit that you're a pro and that motha' fucka' miss me with that shit I learned to tatto in prison and have hella' fucking business and I don't even have a licence and do some shit for free!!..lol! Suck a dick you broke ass lame faggot!!
Fuck all you guys that down anyone who post videos on here at least there putting videos on here all u pre modoanna's that say u have to apprentice first to be a tattoo artist suck a dick and die self taught is better then kissing someones ass for free!!!!
Correction: most shops say they don't offer apprenticeships in general until they see someone serious and worthy enough to be let in. What makes the industry look bad is the folks thinking they can teach themselves, learn online, or go to some three week course and be taught a real trade. Get a proper apprenticeship folks, it takes some dedication, but will make the difference between having potential and just being "that guy". Just my two cents.
Most tattooists won't offer apprenticeships/interns because they see it as a threat, which is crazy and why there is so many bad ones out there.
There are lots of tattooist out there who need to learn to draw because tracing and filling in does not make a great tattooist. If they can't do it on paper or canvas in any medium then they should not be doing it on skin. I have been an artist/designer for many years and now I'm getting into tattooing because, and yes I'm training on myself first.
thats what we learned on our selves 13 years ago..bad habits we then had to go back and break.....some artists wanna be as good or better than the best...have a reputable name etc. workin out of a kitchen, tattooin on the dinner table doesnt cut it... last week i met an artist..he wanted me to come over to his place to see him tattoo...he was tattooin at the kitchen table..with nothing to even cover it...whats fo dinner dude? can i get some extra blood n pigment on my burger? thats self taught
im really surprised. check this out. first you claim self taught...like youre done learning..its cool if youre gonna be shitty forever. i started on myself also...and truth be told...doing so..we were fucking up. maybe we learned that we could do a tattoo that would stay..this n that..n a few other things. an apprenticeship gives you hands on experience how to run a professional shop correct. learn to design, paint, tattoo, pierce. etc. the right way without bad habits thats what we learned on
i agree totally the only way to learn is by practicing watching others ,reading etc this being an aprendice dont get u no where and is money wasted most of the time all u are is their slave
LOL Fucking AssClowns. More than HALF of so-called "Apprentices" were people with a natural knack for the art, that are EXPLOITED by shops. Most shop owners STARTED as scratchers. Being an apprentice doesn't get you dick except following the "artist" who's pocket your holding and cleaning up after them as free labor and sucking dick to get a chair.
Most people, from my *actual* experiences, who yell about NEEDING an apprenticeship, are BITTER because they got played and didnt see a dime.
@SpikeVE So what about other industries where you need schooling that needs to be paid for and when all that is said and done you start at the bottom and work your way up if youre good at what you do? Why do you feel that in this business you have the right to start at the top and not have to go through the ringer like the rest of us? please explain since you know so much. and if you tattoo let me see your portfolio ;)
the attitude really has shocked me too,, im new to doing the art... but not new to the culture at all,, and it really has taken a snobby downturn,.... maybe this is what the industry needs to bring the rocks stars down a few notches and make em a bit more humble.
@DJegijs can we see pics of your work? let someone else be the judge of how good you are....dont blow your own horn...let the work speak for its self
that attitude is horrible..I'd like to see you say that in Tony P's shop in NYC...I'd pay to see that..you have no clue you stupid fuck..keep fucking people up!!! it'll get you real far
@StacieWacieee Lets see the tattoos youve done and we can be the judge of that ;) I can already picture it in my mind...the usual horrible washed out shaky line blemish that people bring into my shop all day everyday that need to be covered. But yeah, keep at it, more coverup business for me.
wwtat2 kicks ass for deals thats for sure. my 1st tat on my leg lost so much ink. cheap crap that was my fault. bought better ink & damn what a diff. doing my third on my leg this weekend simple pieces but nothing like the real thing!
To all of you sharing the knowledge you have, thank you. I am also self taught and it was a pain staking process. You shouldnt have to pay to learn something you love. Some artists in shops dont even know what they are doing. Share the knowledge. Keeping secrets is what fucks peoples skin up.
iagree so much man, all these artist out there(many of whom cant even draw) are trying to keep their secrets so they can "protect the public". but people are going to try learning tattoooing regardless, so keeping this info is what is "hurting" people. it just comes down to ego-they think that since they apprenticed they're more worthy. they know more, yes, but they arent entitled to be condescending pricks when someone asks a respectful question. i've lost respect reading some of their answers.
@OCLibertine thanks for your comment i'm self taught as well although i've only got tattoo experience for a few months i've been an artist all my life. every shop i went to around me wanted to charge me up front for an apprenticeship. all of them tried to talk me out of it first... i just don't get it. ah well... doing very well on my own. hahah again thanks.
Actually people that shouldn't be tattooing is what fuck's people skin up you reject...doctor's love being doctors I guess they shouldn't have had to pay for any of that? gimme a fucking break! PAY YOUR DUES!
@OCLibertine i heard some ppl have to pay for they're apprentaships which sucks....come to australia and do one you get 50% comission so they pay you for what you do.
i am having truble my self i have been practising for a long time on skins with no problam at all so i thort i wood do my self one to day and it looked fin wen i did it till got a shawer and most of it just washed off but it felt as if i was going deep what i dun rong is it my iarn/gun that is not set rite or just me
Were you stretching the skin? if you don't the needles will bounce, ya gotta stretch....practice skins don't give you "practice" with this, nothing replace's the real thing, practice skins have their time and place though! Another possibility is that your skin rejected the ink....lotta variables here....
this video blows period........And yes most artists are too stuck up to give away any of their precous knowledge...I have videos posted up here...i was taught myself no help from anything or anyone...it was hard and had to learn bit by bit and im still learning everyday...time is the key and practice keep drawing all the time and find some good freinds that understand the tattoo might not be the best in the begining but it will be fixed for free when your good....lol....practice first
this saddens me... i want no part of this industry anymore.. except maybe cash in on all the wannabes remember the days when you fought too be not bought too be???
there is no right answer to this question...basically the machine will let it out enough...usually i set mine to the tip of the tube and let the machine do the rest....both line and shade...but it all depends on the machine...do you have a short stroke liner or long stroke....same with the shader...i have like 4 liners all set up a little bit different and 5 shaders set up different as well....if your machine is set up right the needle will do what it needs too...but lots of things can differ it
Some of the best artists never got an apprentiship for example "bugs" he was never apprenticed and hes considered as one of the best. There are other ways to learn dont be so naive everybody!
Yeah but we try to discourage as many people as we can to try to teach themselves. cause chances are most idiots learning how to tattoo right now dont know art from a hole in the wall. You have to be a real artist first otherwise you have no business in the industry
This kind of thing (and keep in mind, not much is actually being taught here) actually is a scratcher's wet dream. It is an ok vid for an apprentice who is earning some experienced knowledge and therefor giving himself a much higher leg up than arrogant ignorance would otherwise allow, you know, by practicing on yourself and any other sucker who would believe you and thinking that's all you need to learn. In this case, many have to be able to learn there is much to learn. Respect.
You've gotta be joking. I've been a tattoo artist for a while, and can only say I'm ashamed at how stuck up and rude other artists have become. I must say anybody who believes an apprenticeship is the ONLY way to learn is not only full of shit, but as well probably lying about their status as an "artist" anyway. Many of us gained our knowledge by tattooing OUR OWN SKIN. Trial an error for you new guys. Read some books, watch other artists, maybe watch a video. Blood pathegen knowledge is a must.
We all have to start somewhere,I am 52 and not too bad at drawing and am thinking of starting tattooing (myself first)
but there is no way I could ever get an apprenticeship at my age and I am old enough to understand that it is not just a case of drawing on people. There is a certain amount of medical knowledge and hygeine and many other things to take into account, but we all have to start somewhere.
i agree 100 % i started teaching myself to tattoo since december and have had nuthin but stuck up artists tellin me i will fuck up a tattoo. its a real downer when someone tells u dnt do wat u r passionate about unles u pay me to teach u first. wat if u have no money only enough to do garage work and not an apprenticeship. fuck stuck up artists!
@AnnetteGodwenvamp the reason most artist suggest a apprenticeship is it will give you a solid foundation for your growth as a tattooer. you will need to continue to learn as you go along. i have been tattooing for 10 years and i don't know it all, and neither does anyone else. once an "artist" believes he or she can't learn any more is when they need to hang up thier machines and learn roofing or something.
@AnnetteGodwenvamp yeah dude a friend of mine got an apprenticeship and holy shit all he did was the artists bitch. sucks and what sucks most is that he paid to be a bitch, and ontop of that he hasnt learned shit. im learning by sacrificing my own skin and trying to learn techniques as i tattoo myself, doing research, reading and such. of course im cautious of bbp, but thanks, someone who isnt an ass hole...im still trying to get good lol
@AnnetteGodwenvamp yes trail an error... im done allot of my tats im learning and ppl like it but u knw i jus dnt wanna tat sum1 else yet till im were i wanna be unless its my best friend or wife u knw lol....good comment
Incorrect, you must be a scratcher if you don't do an apprenticeship and think you're professional without taking a fully certified blood born pathogens class or anything of the sort.
I intentionally try to cross contaminate different peoples germs when i tat. Its easy i just dump all my used inks back in the bottles. I usually store my used needles that i reuse in the fridge with raw meat
if you get paid to do something that, makes you a professional in that particular craft, even if you don't like it. fuck getting an apprenticeship if you don't need to, and these tattoo guys are just mad cause your taking money out of there pockets. keep it up!!!
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
if you wanna learn learn like you're supposed to..there's no easy way to do it...no youtube video is going to show you this, and remember just because you have a "gun" and stupid people that don't care that dose'nt make you good..even a dog's ass shines on a sunny day...peace
this is a scratchers wet dream.. Worlds only tattoo school is a jack off shit....Fuck these people.. They have no idea.. try tattooing a neck or a wristband and maintain proper needle depth.. I fix alot of this bullshit and its all blowout central!! Scratchers keep scratching cause you give us more to fix!!hahah BTW schools can't teach you Blood born pathogenes and all that!
and also a grapefruit dosent spread disease so if you're going to tattoo you should learn how not to itroduce people to other peoples health problems..so rembrant is not a good example of art and tattooing..you cannot teach yourself something you know nothing about.i like the guy that made this video though because he probably gets alot of views to this and he's not teaching anything, best joke i've had in a long time...
tattooing is just like any other artform... did rembrandt have an apprenticship?... Did he? No I dont think so!... You can uprate your skills on things such as grapefruit and sides of pork. dont use tattoo skin. its absolute crap. have a few months practicing on these items. You will know if you are good or not after a couple of months. |Ask opinions on your work before you start tattooing real flesh. if your replies are not good then dont fuck up someones life with a permanent ink scars...
true, but that was back when there was no aprrenticeships and you had to do it yourself, im just saying your gonna crank out a lot better work with one
straight, what about all the pioneers of tattooing? they had no apprentacship and there are plenty of other ways to learn without one you fucking fuck
If your lines are blurry after a week or a week or two its because you are ausing blowouts. This is caused by holding your machine at an angle to cause a diagonal line from point of entry to the epidermis. It will appear as a shadow, or blurr under the skin.
is there a video on this god-forsaken fuckin site that actually tells you "HOW TO" tattoo?? obviously u wont learn in 10min what takes people 4 years to do.. but jsut basics? needle depth, colours, settin up the machine etc etc???
wow, dude... REALLY? getting an apprenticeship is hard as fuck, i have more of a clue on that than someone looking for instructional videos on youtube. do it right, don't be another fucking scratcher. turd-TOWER
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
For sure. Its scratcher training for dumbasses who want to look cool being a tattooist..
And I would love to take on any of the tattoo school graduates to show them how bad they suck. Plus let them know that there is more to tattooing than just learning a few things and then calling themselves a tattooist.
Because unless you have had a true apprenticeship you are NOT a tattooist.
@merlin theres a big difference between driving, horse riding and tattooing my friend. these hacks tattoo people out of their homes without any regard for the people they tattoo. Another possibility is that your skin rejected the ink....lotta variables here....

this video blows period........And yes most artists are too stuck up to give away any of their precous knowledge...I have videos posted up here...i was taught myself no help from anything or anyone...it was hard and had to learn bit by bit and im still learning everyday...time is the key and practice keep drawing all the time and find some good freinds that understand the tattoo might not be the best in the begining but it will be fixed for free when your good....lol....practice first

when lining, how far should the needle come out of the tube? also, when shading is the distance the same? thanks for any help!
twrecks116 2 years ago
there is no right answer to this question...basically the machine will let it out enough...usually i set mine to the tip of the tube and let the machine do the rest....both line and shade...but it all depends on the machine...do you have a short stroke liner or long stroke....same with the shader...i have like 4 liners all set up a little bit different and 5 shaders set up different as well....if your machine is set up right the needle will do what it needs too...but lots of things can differ it

@olivedrabme i agree to a certain extent.

do you have to be 18 for an aprrentice ship cause im only 16 but giving tattoos really intrests me
lilshouty14 2 years ago
Yes, I was 18 when I apprenticed, You have to be able to legally get tattooed without parental consent, To be a tattooist.
XxViolentByDesignxX 2 years ago
This kind of thing (and keep in mind, not much is actually being taught here) actually is a scratcher's wet dream. It is an ok vid for an apprentice who is earning some experienced knowledge and therefor giving himself a much higher leg up than arrogant ignorance would otherwise allow, you know, by practicing on yourself and any other sucker who would believe you and thinking that's all you need to learn. In this case, many have to be able to learn there is much to learn. Respect.
tantricdementia 2 years ago
You've gotta be joking. I've been a tattoo artist for a while, and can only say I'm ashamed at how stuck up and rude other artists have become. I must say anybody who believes an apprenticeship is the ONLY way to learn is not only full of shit, but as well probably lying about their status as an "artist" anyway. Many of us gained our knowledge by tattooing OUR OWN SKIN. Trial an error for you new guys. Read some books, watch other artists, maybe watch a video. Blood pathegen knowledge is a must.

Totally Agree
We all have to start somewhere,I am 52 and not too bad at drawing and am thinking of starting tattooing (myself first)
but there is no way I could ever get an apprenticeship at my age and I am old enough to understand that it is not just a case of drawing on people. There is a certain amount of medical knowledge and hygeine and many other things to take into account, but we all have to start somewhere.
Regards
Steve

i agree 100 % i started teaching myself to tattoo since december and have had nuthin but stuck up artists tellin me i will fuck up a tattoo. its a real downer when someone tells u dnt do wat u r passionate about unles u pay me to teach u first. wat if u have no money only enough to do garage work and not an apprenticeship. fuck stuck up artists!

@AnnetteGodwenvamp um ok just goin to say that my dad got on to my profile so he could post a comment here but i do agree
AnnetteGodwenvamp 1 year ago
@AnnetteGodwenvamp the reason most artist suggest a apprenticeship is it will give you a solid foundation for your growth as a tattooer. you will need to continue to learn as you go along. i have been tattooing for 10 years and i don't know it all, and neither does anyone else. once an "artist" believes he or she can't learn any more is when they need to hang up thier machines and learn roofing or something.
tommycancer 1 year ago
@AnnetteGodwenvamp yeah dude a friend of mine got an apprenticeship and holy shit all he did was the artists bitch. sucks and what sucks most is that he paid to be a bitch, and ontop of that he hasnt learned shit. im learning by sacrificing my own skin and trying to learn techniques as i tattoo myself, doing research, reading and such. of course im cautious of bbp, but thanks, someone who isnt an ass hole...im still trying to get good lol

Incorrect, you must be a scratcher if you don't do an apprenticeship and think you're professional without taking a fully certified blood born pathogens class or anything of the sort.
AngryPancreus 2 years ago
I intentionally try to cross contaminate different peoples germs when i tat. Its easy i just dump all my used inks back in the bottles. I usually store my used needles that i reuse in the fridge with raw meat

and also a grapefruit dosent spread disease so if you're going to tattoo you should learn how not to itroduce people to other peoples health problems..so rembrant is not a good example of art and tattooing..you cannot teach yourself something you know nothing about.i like the guy that made this video though because he probably gets alot of views to this and he's not teaching anything, best joke i've had in a long time...

tattooing is just like any other artform... did rembrandt have an apprenticship?... Did he? No I dont think so!... You can uprate your skills on things such as grapefruit and sides of pork. dont use tattoo skin. its absolute crap. have a few months practicing on these items. You will know if you are good or not after a couple of months. |Ask opinions on your work before you start tattooing real flesh. if your replies are not good then dont fuck up someones life with a permanent ink scars...

true, but that was back when there was no aprrenticeships and you had to do it yourself, im just saying your gonna crank out a lot better work with one

practice holding you machine strait up and down, at a 90 degree angle, for lining... that should fix it. 45% for shovel shading
ericvon32 3 years ago
If your lines are blurry after a week or a week or two its because you are ausing blowouts. This is caused by holding your machine at an angle to cause a diagonal line from point of entry to the epidermis. It will appear as a shadow, or blurr under the skin.
