Actually they couldn't show Tom in the full suit due to contractual reasons, the CW would've been sued big time because they didn't actually own the rights to Superman, but I was THRILLED to see the emblem when Tom opened his shirt, it was what SV fans had been waiting for for 10 years and they didn't disappoint, I thought the finale was excellent, a great end to a great show!
I love Smallville and Superman Mythos for many years. I think Lois Lane should not wear glasses as it ruins the effectiveness of Clark Kent not being recognized as Superman because of his glasses. Just my opinion other then that it is just swell. Mac

I have watched Smallville since the first episode and the series was just wonderful. From beginning to end. I am so glad they left the last episode for Clark to wear the suit. Amazing and I cried. Watching Superman since 1970 yeah I'm old and I am a fan at heart. Hoping the Justice League will include Tom Welling he did an awesome job as Clark Kent.

The Jimmy that was initially on the show was named Henry James Olsen. He went by the name Jimmy, but it wasn't the Jimmy Olsen that we know from the comics. He was his older brother. The Jimmy Olsen that was in the series finale is named James Bartholemew Olsen, the Smallville version of the comic version of Jimmy.

the ending was just brill! there have been times when i've wanted to fast forward as its been so bloomin' boring but i've stuck with it since episode one! the ending, however (not the entire last show tho'!) was just fabulous! it actually brought a tear to my eye when they closed the show with the original superman movie music. loved the fact all old superman characters from films and tv shows did cameos.

@ieodksnw787 Smallville is not a prequel to the Donner films, it's its own thing, it just uses things like the Superman movie mythology as a nod to fans, the comics don't follow the donner movies either, but they've adapted aspects from it. Lex being President is something that happened in the comics back in 2000 and he stayed in power until 2004, Lois and Clark married in the comics back in 1996, again, Smallville borrows elements from the movies and the comics, but is it's own thing
Thhis was an AWESOME ending with the John Williams Superman theme which is what that theme is to Superman what John Williams Star Wars theme is to Star Wars. Tom Welling who is this generations Superman turning into Superman and the American flag behind him , TRUTH , JUSTICE AND THE AMERICAN WAY! The Man of Steel is not gonna use anything from prior Superman films for example the John Williams theme which is iconic. I am not going to go watch that version of Superman.

Am I the only one who thought the last few seconds were a bit awkward? Seriously, how much longer after the fade-out would Clark have kept "jogging" forward with the shirt over the costume only partially pulled apart..? He clearly wasn't in a big hurry to stop that bomb either. =P
The main reason why Tom was never shown in full in the superman suit was mainly because the whole reason of smallville is the story of how Clark Kent Learned his way thought life to be come the superman we all know. That's why it ended with just the red s shown as it's the end of smallville but with a bit of luck the start of a new superman show lol that's how I see it

The problem with the final season i had was this...all season they were hyping Darkseid up, instead of including all the dumb filler episodes (really hangover ripoff?) why not build up darkseid more, get an actor put some make up and lets actually have clark fight darkseid...not fly through the zombified lionel luthor...instead we get a miniscule cgi superman easily pushing a planet away....disappointed to say the least..although this scene did save it basically.
People need to realize there are many reasons they didn't show Welling in the Superman suit. 1) the ending would have sucked with the shirt rip had he already been shown full figure. 2) Ever consider he might be smaller/bigger height/weight wise than Branden Routh, the person the suit was originally made for? Imagine how bad it would have been having welling disproportionate in the Superman suit. Ending was great, get over it everyone!

@BegleyProductions It's definantely Chloe's kid. The kids about 6-7 years old. The last time Chloe and Oliver had "intercourse" was 7 years before that scene.
still pisses me off that they didn't have a decent sendoff. Green Arrow killing 3 badguys in one shot without a struggle, hardly any action with Darkside, scenes with Lex were lame, and from the start of the series, I was expecting Chloe to get killed since she wasn't part of the Superman Mythology. I know it was just a TV show, but come on, you got to expect better from Superman!!!
@smallfry8199 I missed the action too, but that wasn't the main point of the Finale. It was to show how his time in Smallville made him into the Man of Steel we all love. They did a pretty good job with that, for example in the fortress after he flies, Jonathan hands over the suit and says "Always hold onto Smallville." Best line! It kinda felt like that line was meant for us as the fans too...never ever going to forget this show....ever!

The main point was not the action but the journey coming to the end and Clark embracing whole birth father, learning that all the trials his father gave him were not the REAL trials. The Real trials were him just saving people everyday. It was a good ending in my opinion

I'm hearing rumors of a Justice League movie with Tom Willing, Ryan Reynolds (Green Lantern) after rebooting batman and making a wonder woman movie, and following by a supergirl movie between now and 2014 it's going to be awesome.

I'm a Smallville NOOB, so plz explain this to me:
1. Is this supposed to prequel the Donner films? As in this series is a canonical prequel?
2. If yes to #1, then does this series end lead right up to the Donner films? I assume it must be at least 4yrs, since, here, Luther is POTUS-elect.
3. If yes to #1 and #2, how can Clark and Lois be engaged and the 5yrs later Lois has no idea of Clark/Supe in Supe1978?

The main reason why Tom was never shown in full in the superman suit was mainly because the whole reason of smallville is the story of how Clark Kent Learned his way thought life to be come the superman we all know. That's why it ended with just the red s shown as it's the end of smallville but with a bit of luck the start of a new superman show lol that's how I see it

The Jimmy who died was Henry James Olson. His younger brother is wearing a bow-tie at his funeral and Chloe gives him Jimmy's camera. The younger brother is James Bartholomew Olsen, the Jimmy Olson that Clark and Lois work with at the Planet in Superman continuity. Remember, this scene is 7 years in the future, about 9 years after Henry James died. The younger brother was about 8-10 in the funeral scene, making him 16-18 range for this scene.

voxbox18 In addition to the 70s movie (which is appropriate since Christopher Reeve guest starred on Smallville and basically passed the torch to Tom), the rooftop scene with the flag flying and the sun reflecting off skyscrapers is also a tribute to John Byrne's "Man Of Steel" which revitalized the modern superman comics. Anyone catch the sly nod to Superman 2 - A bomb in an elevator - ala Lois atop the Eifel Tower ?

The problem with the final season i had was this...all season they were hyping Darkseid up, instead of including all the dumb filler episodes (really hangover ripoff?) why not build up darkseid more, get an actor put some make up and lets actually have clark fight darkseid...not fly through the zombified lionel luthor...instead we get a miniscule cgi superman easily pushing a planet away....disappointed to say the least..although this scene did save it basically.

People need to realize there are many reasons they didn't show Welling in the Superman suit. 1) the ending would have sucked with the shirt rip had he already been shown full figure. 2) Ever consider he might be smaller/bigger height/weight wise than Branden Routh, the person the suit was originally made for? Imagine how bad it would have been having welling disproportionate in the Superman suit. Ending was great, get over it everyone!

still pisses me off that they didn't have a decent sendoff. Green Arrow killing 3 badguys in one shot without a struggle, hardly any action with Darkside, scenes with Lex were lame, and from the start of the series, I was expecting Chloe to get killed since she wasn't part of the Superman Mythology. I know it was just a TV show, but come on, you got to expect better from Superman!!!

@smallfry8199 I missed the action too, but that wasn't the main point of the Finale. It was to show how his time in Smallville made him into the Man of Steel we all love. They did a pretty good job with that, for example in the fortress after he flies, Jonathan hands over the suit and says "Always hold onto Smallville." Best line! It kinda felt like that line was meant for us as the fans too...never ever going to forget this show....ever!

The main point was not the action but the journey coming to the end and Clark embracing whole birth father, learning that all the trials his father gave him were not the REAL trials. The Real trials were him just saving people everyday. It was a good ending in my opinion
