IMO, there was always more dimension and emotional dynamics to Bob Caudle's voice than there was to Solie's. Bob wasn't as monotone as Gordon, yet he remained one of the most under-appreciated commentators of his day.
since i didn't live where i could see steamboat on tv, i knew about him mostly from mags. he seems bulked up compared to my recollection. tully was a heel's heel and there couldn't be a better contrast in ring personalities than between him and rick.
This should have been a title change at Starrcade 84! Steamer should have gone over! This was a great match...imo THE best worked match at Starrcade 84! Damn shame the finish was so ant-iclimactic
I agree 100%, the WWE keeps pushing those damn Hogan & Flair DVDs down our throats. I think there should be a Steamboat & "Best of Georgia Championship Wrestling DVD starting in 1980 and moving from there. Never will happen though.
To be fair to WWE, Ricky's ex-wife owns the "Dragon" nickname and they are still in court over that which is why WWE hasn't done a DVD but Jim Ross said they do plan on doing one.
Moving around like a king cobra. Man do I miss Mr. Gordon Solie. You do not hear neat comparisons like that anymore. Especially in WWE. (WWE??) what the hell is that. lol. It always was WWF.
gawd, this is so great. I love when the wrestlers and the announcers treat it like a real contest. "protecting the ribs...circling to the left" I miss this type of wrestling. It's the little things.

Steamboat is best with a fast worker, because he does tend to oversell.

I'd love to see any of the 1984 Blanchard / Steamboat interviews and footage from the months leading into the Starrcade match.
