1999 version has higher nerve, this is good too, but I love the Russo-Brosnan film. There is also much more tension IMHO. And the music is MUCH more better.
@bambi2404 you gotta remember there was a lot on tension in this one too, just a different style. Also Steve is never under THAT much preasure he's Steve McQueen ffs!
I don't remember Richard Harrison who sings the lovely and unforgettable theme song. His voice is pleasant but not powerful and his style very relaxed, but it's nice to hear an Englishman singing a pop song with a crystal-clear British accent instead of the usual Mid-Atlantic affected by Cliff Richard and the like..
The art theft in the 1999 remake is a bit more cohesive than the bank heist in this original, but I still prefer this one. Steve McQueen loved making this movie - supposedly it was his favorite - and it shows. The cat and mouse game between Tom and Vicki is so damn well played on both sides.
I like the sexual chemistry of the main characters in this version better. Faye Dunnaway in her prime , steve mcqueen in his prime, you can't beat that.
However the newer version has much better action sequences and better pacing. This old version starts out very slow.
This is one of the best movies of all time with one of the greatest romantic scenes in history of film between McQueen and Dunaway (chess). I was here live when this played out and it was one the awesomest movies I ever saw and I still watch McQueen (in Bullit and Hunter too) his last movie...McQueen is mesmorizing in this ...he is acting against his grain magnificently.
have you seen the guy who founded wal mart genius?
you're just saying it because you read that statement the same place i read it. steve mcqueen is the king in this role, if you don't like it go watch pierce brosnan's version.
I agree! I was v disappointed by the '99 version and happened to catch the last thirty minutes of the '68 version--and still found it vastly superior.
aww, I thought there was more. This is the only one?

Pierce Brosnan and Renee Russo made a fresh version of this film. Both are brilliant.

RIP Steve McQueen, Jack Weston and Paul Burke who had to have had the most thankless role.

That introductory song is just so mean: Plain text, and uninspired harmonic construction.
Hopefully the movie will be better than this ...

The song is "Windmills of your mind" and it won the Best Original Song Oscar in 1968.
