  • @TheOneWith1opinion Did I say that? You can be the best player, go all in heads up at the Main Event, with the perfect cards, and the other player is Joe Cada which will river a full boat to crush your straight. You need skill most of the time, but there are certain situations that will require a bit of luck as well. Can you agree with that?

    so luck is verry needed..skill 80 procent20%luck

  • FUCK PHILIPS

  • Poker is a sport because the you get enough mental presure to affect you fisicly

  • If poker were a sport, then Greg Raymer would be an athlete... :p

  • Instead of "sport", why not just call it a "technical skill game" then? Don't call it a sport just because it takes longer to say than "sport!"

  • gut at 1:56 got royal flish when other guy had quad A's. stupid punks like that always get lucky !! even in my home game!

  • Idiot, said Phil)))

  • Poker is not a sport; sorry people.

  • @Disney312 Is chess a sport in your mind?

  • @captmcneil

A sport is something that requires athletic ability..so no.

  • @Disney312 Well, chess is a recognized sport of the International Olympic Committee. So while sports might require physical activity according to common definition, this topic is at least unclear.

  • @captmcneil

Interesting. I'll bet they don't recognize poker though.

  • @Disney312 Well, I just don't get what you're trying to say. If sport requires physical activity, then no, poker is no sport. But what does it change? Does a game become less relevant because of that? Should poker tournaments be banned from ESPN?

It's competitive, there are rules, it covers every other aspect of a "sport". I guess we could call it "technical skill game" instead, but well... :)

  • @captmcneil

My only point is that it is not a sport. I am not trying to take anything away from the relevance of poker, but it is in fact a game, not a sport. It is a competitive game that requires skill, but a game nonetheless.

  • @Disney312 But what is it, then?

The problem is, there is no other word than "sport" that do "activities" like chess, poker, billiards, etc justice. These games are carried out under exactly the same circumstances than, let's say, tennis or football. So they are "sports" for me.

  • "The idiot from Northern Europe" (Chad) lol

  • To determine the strength of a player overall, it is how they handle the swings of luck. If you're strong with $42 million in chips or 1000 big blinds, how strong are you when go down to 20 big blinds or $2 million in chips one, two, maybe three hands later?

  • chino is like a lucky cat with 9 lives

  • I would say it is 60% skill 40% for the average player,70% 30% for the great player and 80% 20% for the world's best pros!

  • This skill%/luck% debate is ridiculous. Yes, in poker, there are big swings of variance based on factors out of our control, i.e. luck.

But it's all probability, you can even calculate your chances in any given spot! Sometimes the 3% chance of losing happens, sometimes the 1% chance of winning happens, but it all evens out. Noone is more "lucky" than anyone else, so in the long run, the good player WILL win at poker, the bad player WILL lose at poker.

  • So instead of claiming "omg 60% skill 40% luck imo!!!!11!!1" Why not accept that it's a game of skill with a much higher degree of short term variance than other games of skill? You can't attribute a percentage to something intangible, it's just PROBABILITY.

  • @Amaru19 Very true. Anyone can win one time, but the good players are the ones that win consistently, year after year. Luck is only a small part of it, most of it is skill.

  • im so glad i dont watch tv. i had to wait a year to see this, but i get to skip thru all the bullshit and get to the cards

  • Skill and luck goes hand in hand whenever you play a game of poker. They are not mutually exclusive.

You cannot win by luck alone.

You cannot win by skill alone.

    You've got to have both.

  • Poker isnt all luck. You need a few lucky decks, hands, folds every now and then but its about reading peoples play, betting correct amounts, sensible folds, establishing yourself at the table. 40%luck 60% skill

  • Lol, baddest bad beats.

What about quad aces vs royal flush?

  • idiots, poker is 100% skill, why has hellmuth, ivey have so many bracelets?. why does ivey get so far in the main event? would you be able to fold top two pair against a set? could you leave down a king high flush against an ace high flush? its all about how you play the game, no LUCK whatsoever!!!!

  • @101fonzy as with all gambling there is luck involved, saying its 100% skill is just stupid.

  • so would you win in a poker against players like durrr, ivey?

  • @101fonzy

    Definately not 100% skill.

Countless times you see very "skilled" players lose out badly to new players. Its like a 50/50 split.

  • @101fonzy i agree with you. i cant stand it when people say its more luck than skill. no such thing as luck. just mathematical chance. when someone hits a one outer its just by chance. people who think they are lucky will lose. if you are supersticious and cant play the ace of hearts at noon on sunday then you will lose. skill is what separates the winners from the luck players.

  • 80%luck20%skill

  • 60% skill 40% luck

  • i guess its

    70% skill

    and 30% luck

    what do you think??

  • F U C K CHINO RHEEM.. LITTLE FART

  • ahh wish i could get to that level

  • The level of this final table or that of all these YouTube pros?

    ;)

  • Poker is not all about skill, you gotta have some luck too.

  • uh

well its really variable. in a massive tournament like the main event, making it to a final table takes WAY more luck than say playing 3 handed at the final table. you absolutely need to win flips to make it this far in a massive tournament.

  • @ gzboh

I agree. The bigger the tournament, the more luck you need to win it.

  • exactly, but there are definitely some aspects of poker that id agree are 95-5 skill - luck. extraction lines, playing position, all sorts of things. pokers just too variable a game to quantify overall what the skill luck ratio is.

  • @ gzboh:

Most pro´s say that poker has enough luck aspects to let people believe its a "luck game".

You even can win with a bad hand (bluffing), that´s skill, not luck. You can read the opponents tells and figure out his cards.Thats skill, not luck - Poker is a skill game.

PS: I´m german, sorry for my bad english :)

  • bullcrap! 60% skill 40% luck it is !

  • @alxcsb There is NO luck at poker!!! Do you want to know why? Because the cards being dealt are NOT randomly chosen. After the cards being shuffled all the cards are in the same position all the time. It's whether you make a good choice that decides if you hit something on the river. Because if you are looking for an ace on the river it's just a good decision if the river is an ace and NOT luck. If you would randomly select a card and the river was an ace... THAT'S luck.

  • @alxcsb luck is short term . over time you want skill. skill creats luck

  • @sneak108 No, you are wrong. A player that is skilled and does not resort to rivering the other players will surely last longer than a lucky person that rivered the flush a couple of times while going all in. Still, you need luck as well because if you don't get any cards to play you can't win by bluffing all the time, if you know what i mean. It's a perfect balance between skill and luck that makes Phil Ivey the best.

  • @alxcsb

.. for his commentary to see that you really do not play poker .. :)

  • @alxcsb That is true, but picking the spots where luck can help you out is a skill in itself.

  • @alxcsb

Yes, Exactlly, all of those guy must get in whole tournament situation, when could be out, when make a bad call :o) More in WSOP, many peoples.

  • @alxcsb Everyone has "some luck".

  • @Hadesofthe07

Yeah but you can have 'some luck' in your little £5 home game or you can have 'some luck' in the main event.

You just have to try to time your rungood really well.

  • That was truely terrible play by Phillips. It goes to show you just have to get lucky (a lot) to get past 1000s of good poker players to make the final table of the main event.

  • LOL dont tell me the pro never get lucky?

  • Ylon was another one who was shortchanged by the editing. The first few hours of this final table was the Ylon Scwartz show. Note the chip counts. ESPN shows him win one pot yet somehow he has 30million chips? He was crushing it.

  • Alot of you guys didn't take into account the editing when assessing Peter's play. Eastgate was involved in more hands than anyone else at this final table. I think it was something like 25% of all the hands, maybe not quite that high, but in that ballpark.

Btw Eastgate final tabled the Irish Poker Open '07 before this, then won a $5k PCA event after this. He and Demidov are both great, heads-up for 4 hours, ESPN showed two hands. Nice.

  • @Amaru19 Thanks, cool info.

  • Actually Rheem plays very good poker.

I think montgomery, suharto, marquis just got luck in this event.

  • 2:06 REAL BOOBS !!

  • THANKYOU FOR POINTING THOSE OUT!!!!!

  • @r0m3r0777 Isabelle Mercier ?

  • Poor Schwartz. He somehow never really recovered from that QQ vs. AQ loss.

  • oh really? why dont you buy-in the national heads-up poker championship 2010 and prove it. there is a saying that is actually true.

to be the best, you have to beat the best.

  • gratz

  • Comment removed

  • chino rheem is my fav he ownz

  • "idiot from northend europe" xD

  • ok that fold at 0:00 was a very very very bad fold, really dissapointing for a pro

  • In ''The Nuts'' they didn't show the quad aces get beat by a royal flush

  • After the final one on one table they show it after eastgate won, along with other good highlights.

  • phil ivey was at final table when moneymaker won and matusow has been to a final table when hachem won

  • Phil Ivey was not at the final table when Moneymaker won. Phil ivey got eliminated 10th place while I made mistake about Matusow. Matusow did make it to final table two times. Some dumb fucktard said you have to make it to final table to prove that you're better. So according to him, members of final table in this main event are better than phil ivey, negreanu, antonius, chau giang, john juanda, barry greenstein, etc. ANYONE with common poker sense and good luck of cards can make it deep in ME.

  • So according to you, you have to make it to final table to prove that you're better than them? So I guess according to your retarded logic, members of this final table are better than Daniel Negreanu, Phil Ivey, Patrik Antonius, Mike Matusow, etc since they haven't reached final table in main event, right? LOL.

  • i guess according to you, whoever you see in a commercial is the best player. all those players are ofcourse great, but if we are talking about nlh hs online, only ivey and antonius can compete. eastgate is a better nlh player than matusow and negreanu if we are talking cash.

  • Since when did I say people in commercial are best players? I called few finalists on the final table "idiot" and some guy tells me that I'm not allowed to talk shit unless I reach the final table. You talk as if I trashed Eastgate. Eastgate is a very good, solid player. Of main event champs from past 5-6 years, Eastgate is my favorite of them. But those players I've mentioned(matusow, negreanu, etc) are far beyond skill levels of Montgomery, Phillips, Rheem, Marquis, Suharto, schwartz.

  • plz give a logical reason why you put schwartz in the same category as phillips, maquis, etc...honestly there is no doubt he is one of the 3 most skilled players at this table along with demidov and eastgate

  • recall the rookie bet on the river against Eastgate?

  • And I'm sure you know about the deep run Eastgate had again this year. Eastgate is only 23 years old and I see lot of potential in this kid. I'm only a local 5/10 live player but I know damn well how to differentiate between good players and bad players. Eastgate and Demidov are the only players at the final table who have potential of being very successful and be in league of current high stake pros you see today. i don't see any potential in montgomery, suharto, marquis, etc.

  • also ylon schwartz. made a brilliant read but got very unlucky as eastgate hit what was essentially a 2 outer because schwartz would have bluffed him out with that move on the river

  • Schwartz would've bluffed him out? If Eastgate didn't hit his 5s full, Eastgate would've checked behind to end the action. Schwartz was out of position, so that move was never bounded to work. If Eastgate was first to act, then yes, it might've worked. But yes, I was impressed by the way he folded King high flush. So Schwartz is amazing as well.

  • phillips had a good run too this year

  • damn who's the girl at 2:06...??? i wouldnt be able to play poker with her... =]

  • that's erica schoenberg

  • What are the blinds at this point???

  • rheem got lucky with that AK against Demidov's pocket 9s

  • it's poker

  • he cant get lucky in a coinflip situation...just 50-50 ...

  • AK vs 99 is a COIN-FLIP. Pot can go either way. Demidov didn't even care because it didn't even tickle his chipstack.

  • Demidov also got lucky with his pocket 9's against Rheem's pocket 10's.

  • These ppl are way to crazy for poker!! You have to concentrate and fake your emotions, it's not an on-hand spectator sport...

  • eastgate had the strategy down just keep folding and letting the other players knock each other out then swoop in with the chip lead

  • thats what i do, unless i have something decent to play with

  • thats not how demidov did it. demidov's a much better player than anyone at that table. eastgate hit a 4 outer against chino and got luckier than demidov overall but demidov's aggression got philipps to lay down the best hand even though demidov was dominated.

folding at a final table isnt good enough because once there is like 4 or 5 players left you went from being average stack to half average stack.

  • LOL first of all its not a 4 outer. I dont know where you came up with that number. secondly eastgate would have still had over 20 million chips if he lost that hand. wasnt that bad of a call. Demidov is just very aggressive, which work wonders against this table (mostly phillips). put any player with skills at his table and he would get felted in half an hour.

  • i agree with u 100%, demidov is by far the best player at this table! the guy is class

  • Eastgate did everything perfectly at the final table. He stepped aside, let lot of idiots play bingo, he preyed and fought with short-stacks to build his chips. You can't expect Eastgate to fold there when Rheem only had 8 big blinds while Eastgate had over 60 big blinds. 8 blinds out of 60 blinds is more than enough for a call. Rheem could've pushed with anything such as any pocket pairs, any two face cards, any hole cards with Ace.

  • LMFAO!! I read a comment and its YOU again!! Fucking wanker....

'let lot of idiots play bingo' lmfao,, theyre that bad of an idiot then reach the FT of the WSOP,, can you do that....NO! You chat soo much shit!! Also learn to spell...its 'prayed' not 'preyed'

  • LOL, are you kidding me? You must have some comprehension problem. It's PREYED you fucking dumbass. PREYED as in picking on short-stacks. Your brain must be mentally challenged. And before attempting to fix my grammar with your pathetic brain, fix yours first. It's "they're" not "theyre" and it's "so" not "soo". You don't even know the difference between prey and pray because you're a fucking dumbass. LOL.

  • Lmao, i didn't realise that i had to spell every single little word correctly on youtube. Sorry i didn't realise that i was being assessed on my grammar. You come up with some shit!! Wtf you on about preyed haha,, u think you know it all and everything that comes out your mouth is pure BS!! Idiots on the Ft of WSOP, yeah its full of them =\

Go and play with your donkey mates and get into fights because u call with pocket 2's haha, pathetic little boy

  • You're the dumbass who criticized my correct spelling when you're the dumbass who can't differentiate between prey and pray. I sure know everything better than you. Just because they make it to final table don't mean they're pros. I call with winning hand, not losing hand. I even played against few poker players who made it deep into the main event. I won't mention his name but he told me that having common poker sense and good run of cards will get you deep. And he was in WSOP 2004 Main Event.

  • Lmfao, yes im sure you do.....

    That imaginary person again =\

Funny how you don't mention his name, yeaah i beleive u now...honest! LOL!

  • And dude, stop barking at me on every comments. It's getting very annoying. British fucks like yourself are damn annoying. No wonder US became independent from your pathetic country. Not only do they suck at poker, they suck at everything except football. Except for Manchester United, there's nothing great about your pathetic country. We'll be celebrating July 4 this week, the day we became independent from dumb fucks like yourself.

  • Ooo critizing my country? My country is shit and i don't care!? Lmao Big insults!!

US are just fat dumb fuckers so i don't mind :)

  • phil helmuth condescending dirt back bitch

  • Ugh... when did Poker become a sport? lol

  • Comment removed

  • man maybe it's just me...but why the fuck do these guys let that little douchbag hellmuth get away with acting like that? That's why he does that stuff. If i was to play and he treated me like that, i would make damn sure he would know he couldn't in a forceful manner....

  • this is soooooo gay

  • der dont even know how 2 spell poker these players

  • Isabelle Mercier was looking good in that one clip. Man I cant wait for this year's series to start!

  • High octane stuff.

  • There should be a rule that they can not leave the table even after the end of the hand. I hate when they leave leave the table and hug their fans. Even with X amount of money in the pot.... save it for your last hand.

  • yeah and i suppose youd be as cool as a cucumber after spending 7 days and maybe a few years chasing a dream and actually making it to the final table.......man,i would be going fucking mental after every hand i won

  • RAT

  • What most people probably do not realize is that Hellmuth was knocked out of the final table of the 2001 WSOP when he pushed all in with none other than Q-10! He really hates that hand.

BTW, Patrik is very nice to look at (no homo)

  • eastgate is probably the best main event winner since mortenson.

  • Is that really saying much though? I actually don't believe he is better than Raymer at this point. However, he's still young and has time to improve.

That being said, I don't think we'll be hearing much from Eastgate in 10 years. He doesn't have the personality too make it big without top notch skills, which I do not believe he possesses.

  • I don't care what anyone says Eastgate is a good player. Not the best but he ain't bad.

  • i found something strange:

after the flushy awards, you see eastgate at 3:12 to 3:19 with a black cap and a hoodie. But he has the white cap on on the rest of the final table, you can see it just after this part at 3:20. i think it was recorded at a different moment
