I never liked metal until the last couple years. And that is the one the only type of music I listen. I listen to techno and I do listen to some rap, hip hop and rock. But I just love the metal. I got into thanx to my husband. I have watched a few videos this evening and can't believe how many black people are into metal. I think that is cool, great and awesome.
It may be a stereotype, but in most cases people do fit right in with their stereotype. When people find someone who doesn't fit into that box it can just be a little shocking. I applaud you for stepping outside of the norm. It may be a stereotype, but in most cases people do fit right in with their stereotype. When people find someone who doesn't fit into that box it can just be a little shocking. I applaud you for stepping outside of the norm. I think many black people may hide their taste in certain kinds of music or other things just because they feel they will be ostracized by other black people that they know.

Hey, I'm GLAD to see black people in metal. I'm sick of the stereotype mentality and social programming and no music should be restricted to a certain race. I'm biracial (black/white) and grew up rap, classic rock, pop and as I grew older, it became metal. A lot of things are total shit these days (especially the popular stuff) and metal has been nothing but good for me personally. Metal should never have a colour barrier. More power to ya!

Girl I totally agree. I listen to mostly "white people" music and my sister is always telling me that I act like a white girl. But why should I pretend to be someone I am not because of my skin color. My playlist consist of Michael Jackson, Britney Spears, Backstreet Boys, A Tribe Called Quest, Prince, Iron Maiden, Fozzy, and countless others. As a creole (black, white, native american, asian) metalhead, I applaud this. From Chuck Berry to Hendrix to Hirax to Suffocation, blacks and rock/metal have been inseparable. I will continue to grind out hatecore on my guitar while someone else can create looped synth lines and steal samples and melodies from 20 year old pop songs, and call it "talented." so the roots of metal are in black music. although there are also many similarities to eastern music in death metal, or folk music in black metal. also a lot of technical death metal is inspired by jazz, which is mostly american black music (originally). and most modern popular music is black music or inspired by black music (pop,rnb,dubstep,hiphop,rap,rock,blues,reggae) the ONLY metal which is not related to black music
